We have already tried all the lunch specials — steak, chicken and roast pork fried rice. All of them are very good! My 2 sons love them and their donut. This is the only restaurant in North Shore where we keep on coming back every time we feel we want to dine out.

Yum! Fresh — fast — authentic and full of tasty MSG ! We had a family get together and decided to have Chinese takeaways — we had heard through word of mouth this place was the best local spot for Chinese and I’m glad we did it. The food was delicious. The standout was that it was noticeably fresh which is so key for takeaways. I would def go there again — they also have European food but I’m not so keen on European fried food from a Chinese joint(it could be amazing but I can’t say) They are open 7days too — a good Sunday night place if you can’t be bothered cooking after a busy weekend

So this is probably my guilty secret. I have been having Chinese takeaway here as long as I can remember, and nothing else will really do. I love authentic dumplings and real Chinese food too, but holy moly, sometimes nothing beats a good old fashioned local Chinese takeaway with chips to boot. I will always order the same thing(probably like most of us at our local chippie) — beef and black bean sauce on noodles(they use the crunchy fatty noodles we all love and know we shouldn’t eat), combination fried rice, chicken chop suey and sweet and sour won tons. Man do I love won tons. The best thing about the won tons from here is that they are full of mince meat. You know how if you get mall Chinese, the won tons are pretty much all deep fried with a tinsy tiny morsel of meat in there. Not here. And it makes me happy. This is a Takapuna institution right? If you’ve lived in Taka, you’ll know it. It’s pretty dire inside, so don’t ever eat there. Take it home and eat yourself into a food coma. Don’t forget to order their chips either! Salty and delicious, they are never mushy — always crispy. Tip: portions are huge. If you’re ordering four dishes, you will need at least four VERY hungry people and you’ll still have leftovers. Probably a lot of leftovers.

I love this place, I have been going here for close to 20 years. My parents loved it, and even though I have lived all around Auckland, as soon as I came back to the shore, this is the Chinese Takeaway of choice.

Flying Horse has been my benchmark for Chinese food for as long as I can remember. On Friday nights our family would often forsake the traditional Kiwi dinner of fish and chips, for some Flying Horse. It got to the point where we didn’t even have to ask what everyone wanted, I think we literally had a ‘usual.’ Lately though I find myself feeling a bit sick after Chinese food, I think because it is rather greasy. Still, I had Flying Horse not long ago and it is still delicious, and actually one of the fresher, cleaner tasting Chinese. The place is very unassuming, looking a lot like every other not-that-good takeaway place. But don’t judge it! The service is friendly and happy to help if you want to try something new and the food is ready super fast. It’s also really well priced. If you want Chinese and you’re in the area, it really should be your only option.

I guess it’s true that you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, if that was the case I probably wouldn’t have even have ventured into this place if my partner hadn’t of raved so much about it, and considering it was easier to cave and go rather than try and shut him up, this is where I ended up on Friday night, patiently waiting in the queue to place my order. My babe wasn’t budging on the fried rice and chips so that’s what we had, and I have to say it was pretty darn tasty! Even for a non fried rice convert like myself. The boy says the fish isn’t good though, pretty oily and greasy so stick with the favorites and you’ll be fine!

I am an absolute sucker for Chinese food and this place is honestly as good as it gets. Any fried rice from here whether it be steak or mixed meat will rock your world. I can always depend on this place; don’t you hate it when you decide to try out a new takeaways shop and the food isn’t as great as your usual? I would never cheat on Flying Horse, I stay loyal. The chips are always cooked to perfection just how I like them — crispy and salty not soggy and flavourless.
