Seriously impressed on every level with this café. Fast, super fresh whole food, and awesome service. The almond milk coffee is the best I’ve tried! Raw Zoodle Pasta is to die for, and Eggs Bene was top of the list for the best around. Even the bf, who is not vegan, gf inclined or remotely interested in ‘health’ foods, was raving about this place. We will be back!

Mimosa is a cute wee space along Lake Road– not sure how long it’s been there cause I don’t know how I’ve missed it! It’s absolutely adorable with it’s quirky 70’s vintage furniture and décor. Loved the high backed gentleman’s sofa chairs and the glass bottles with flowers. Himalyan rock salt on the table, large wooden communal table at the front with a cool ceiling hanging light fixture feature. A big glass open window facing out onto the main road with benches. Magazines on tables free for reading. A winner in my books from the get-go for being open early on a Sunday morning when others aren’t open at all or open a bit too late. Perfect for a shift worker like myself and the majority of my friends. Like the organic ethos as well as Fair trade and vegetarian touches– even though I’m none of the above, it’s very cool that this could be an option for those diets. They have a menu but we ordered from their cabinet. Liked the look of their breakfast wrap– with it’s colourful sprouts and smooth falafel piece wrapped in a toasted white wrap bread. Came with it’s own paper sleeve to hold it in, sitting on a red rimmed metal circular plate that I love. Ordered the blueberry smoothie which was a bit thin for my taste but had lots of organic blueberries– might have been a bit too heavy on the organic milk. Also made of bio-farm yoghurt and just enough honey that it wasn’t too sweet. A very cute place– must take for your vegetarians and organic-eaters.

This is one of those spots that I walk past on a regular basis but have never ventured inside. Well, today I finally did and was immediately annoyed that I hadn’t done so earlier. It’s a gem on what is an otherwise average block. The décor is hipster cool, mismatched and full of quirky touches, like an old toy dump truck carrying a leafy shrub in it’s tray or the low hanging wire caged lights. They also have a pretty cute courtyard out back, which i’m told is a recent addition. There’s ample seating but best of all it’s delightfully quiet — perfect for reading the morning paper. Food-wise everything is fair trade and organic and whilst I am yet to try the menu, I watched Belgium waffles smothered in crème fraîche and berry compote being delivered to a table today and they looked devine. As for their smoothies — try the organic blueberry. It’s made with biofarm yoghurt, honey and organic milk. It’s not overly sweet so you still feel like you are being reasonably healthy!

Mimosa is a small but significant addition to the great Takapuna area. It is slightly out of the main café/bar restaurant strip, but I think this almost adds to it’s likeability. I can’t remember what was here before Mimosa, but I have a feeling this one will be here to stay for awhile. I finally came here after driving past it numerous times and peering in the window. The staff are lovely and chilled. They are really welcoming and happy to help, but know when to let you be. Most of the seating is inside, but there are a few seats outside on the footpath. I usually like a seat in the sun but because Mimosa is on a main road, I prefer sitting inside. They have great but not large range of unique and organic food, sushi and Kokako coffee which is both fair trade and organic. Their brunch menu goes all day, which is always good for those days after a big night, and they have a lunch service also. Situated in the heart of Takapuna, it is great for a mid-shopping stop off, or walk 2 minutes down to the beautiful Takapuna beach.

Kakako coffee?! Sushi catering?! Fair trade and organic?! This was my first time at Mimosa but I am pretty sure it would have a following! With those three things offered along with some lovely attentive service this place is pretty cool. Mimosa have a lunch service and all day breakfast menu — always a hit with hubby and I! Yummy free range eggs, hearty healthy rolls, fruit salads — the menu offers a few choices but not a huge range. They also have unique lunch and breakfast packs on offer if you want some catering for 4 or more and orders are placed more than 24 hours in advance. They are situated on the popular Lake Road in Takapuna, amongst ample shops and walking distance to the beach. It is worth the stop over if you are in the area or a local.
