My cousin is a surf life saver, and I have come up to see him quite a lot of the North Piha Surf Life Saving Club. Piha is a fantastic beach but those waves can get pretty huge(enough that there is a TV show surrounding the dangers of Piha Beach), and no matter your swimming skills it is always a good idea to stay in between those flags. The surf life savers are the to look over the beach, which they can do from the tower that looks over the entire North Piha. The club has a lot of members, and the life savers are well trained, confident and friendly.

My kids are involved in this amazing surf life saving club, dedicated volunteers with a mission to make the general public’s swimming safer on Piha. Notoriously dangerous for the uninitiated, if you know your limits and swim between the flags no harm will come to you. United North Piha Life Saving’s tower gives the lifeguards a full view of the beach, north of Lion Rock which is the area they patrol, leaving South Piha to the second as seen on TV club. Highly visible in their yellow and red uniforms and extremely competent at what they do, lifeguards are pretty special people and the UNPLS club members are definitely a friendly bunch.
