After a stroll on the beach and being very hungry this place was a welcome site. The deck and patio is great to sit at and the place has a wide variety of food, drink, and desserts. The staff was friendly enough as the patrons were quick to strike up a conversation. Being from out of the country I can’t really comment on the price, honestly everything in New Zealand seemed pricy but no different then visits Hawaii or any other beach locale. Take a drink to go and walk near the beautiful beach or just sit and relax a bit.

Besides the 30 minute wait we were warned about, the food was pretty good. We left the restaurant down the street with a 30 minute wait for another delay. It must be a time-of-day thing. The fries? Like anywhere. The pulled pork quesadilla, same as anywhere but really overpriced at around $ 20. The ginger beer(in the bottle)? The best I’d ever had. Add to that the cool beach front view and it got the rating it did. Literally, those 2 factors were the only point in visiting Onetangi Beach.

Went here on the morning of18 January 2015 for breakfast, about 9am. The café was reasonably busy, but not completely full at this time. We submitted our orders at the café cashier, where the order was correctly repeated back to me. However, due to a mixup in the kitchen, three of the meals were forgotten about. Then, when we asked the waitress where our orders were(not a fault of hers) she came back and told us it was 2 minutes away. 8 minutes later, the missing food arrived, with apologies from the waitress(who wasn’t to blame and was efficient in her own right). As a result, our family dined in a staggered fashion, with my meal coming out first, my wife getting her sides without main, and one of the children having a meal while the others had nothing in front of them. Anyway, breakfast for the family consisted of a big breakfast, 2 eggs on toast, and three pancakes, plus smoothies and coffee. The coffee was fine, the smoothies were very nice(according to the children they were 9⁄10) and the food was pleasant and well portioned, though nothing special. The service from the kitchen was a real let down, and took the gloss over what would have been a pleasant breakfast on a gorgeous day at Onetangi Beach. Next time, I’ll try the other café down the road(Fourth Ave Café about 150m along the waterfront) — hopefully their cooks and kitchen staff will be less prone to completely forgetting orders.

Casual venue in a superb location! Could sit outside in the deck for hours under the shade of the umbrellas. I had eggs benedict which were standard and good, all the food seemed fine but nothing to write home about.

Great place for quick scones and coffee. Views from their beach front patio are amazing.

French toast with banana and bacon. Eggs Benedict with salmon. Thoroughly enjoyable. What made the visit even more special was the little penguin chick on the beach. He was napping and then toddled back into the water and swam off. So cool. This was my second visit to Charlie’s. I’d recommend it to anybody and would be happy to go back again.

I am writing this while sitting here drinking a beer after a hot day of biking around the island. So it might be a little bit less awesome than I make it seem… but this place is great for a chill drink, pretty much on the beach.

This for the Thai seafood currie on dec 152013. I don’t know what the other stuff tastes like but the seafood and rice in the currie was so old and dry I could not even break up the rice into chunks! Solid dried mass! Awesome! The fish too was amazing, so dried and old I could not break it with my teeth!

After battling up the hills on our bikes, we decided to treat ourselves to a well earned beverage at this fantastic bar /restaurant. It’s right across the road from Onetangi Beach and is in a great spot. What a view, and they have really made the most of this, with their large deck complete with plenty of tables. I think this is a must visit if you visit Waiheke Island. It is also a great people watching spot; there was a stag do on when I last visited… Apparently if you are lucky, you can sometimes even spot whales from the deck — awesome!

a great place to chill close to the beach on waiheke island! njoy a yummy piece of cake and coffee or a fantastic NZ white wine with delicious food, while watching the naughty seagulls bothering the tourists ;-) the staff is a bit slooowly, but thats maybe just because all«waihekian’s «aren’t in a rush but like that they always keep their smile. i felt very comfortable at charlies, although i was on my own. it was recommended to my by a local kiwi and if i could i would invite him to a glass of wine to THANKYOU for telling me buddy ;-)
