Ray was really lovely and we are at the bar(15 minutes before our booked time) but 20 minutes after our booking time still no table(8:50). Sitting in the lounge bar and then people with table numbers from the crab shack entering and eating there bit of a worry. Waitress/hostess wearing little black ankle high boots and a skirt cut totally to high with a lace trim, totally inappropriate for any kind of restaurant. Waiter explains the menu, needs to learn it is not a race or contest, had to ask Stephen what he said as I couldn’t keep up, yes even Stephen missed bits of that talk. Salmon ceviche style(salmon was off) not a good start. After that 3 staff asked how the food was. The pallet cleanser(piña colada) very sweet more a desert, clashed with the fantastic wine we were drinking and did not cleanse the pallet. Main course of grouper(nicoise with calamari) was pleasant but bland, seasoning during cooking process and to the salad would have been advantages, the same version with French peas etc had flavour. Presentation of plates was good and pleasing to the eyes. Floor staff really need to learn the menu. Not top of the list of restaurants. Over all a bad expensive experience.

Made a booking at Shed 5(was able to get one day of for a party of 6, which was fab) the old fashioned way– based on an in person recommendation from a local. The space is really pretty, on the wharf and spacious and bright on the inside. Overall, the food was solid. Nothing incredible, but very tasty and well presented. Our favourite of our starters was definitely the ceviche. The market fish was grouper, which several people in our group ordered(har har). The preparation was nice, but with one major caveat– there was a big dollop of cold aubergine tapenade on top which everyone agreed ruined the dish(because of the temperature). The coldness made the fish cold and nearly everyone who ordered the market fish a really jarring negative response to the cold tapenade. If it was served hot, I think everyone would have been happy. I was in a beef mood and ordered the Eye Filet, which I was quite pleased with(200g of grass fed beef fillet /black truffle & parmesan polenta chips /tomato & olive ragu /rosemary & garlic balsamic /bone marrow & parsley butter). Also, the mains took forever to arrive, which they were very apologetic about(they even sent over some free truffles in apology without us complaining…), so we were too tired for dessert even though some of them looked nice.

excellent location right on the wharf. very attentive servers with great recommendations(tried blue nose for the first time!). i just loved the dessert – was a little dry with the soil and carrot cake but i would order it again! very reasonably priced for a main, wine and dessert.
