Oh, Häferl! I had a delicious and huge mélange(Viennese cappuccino) here, along with the«Häferl Kuchen»(cake), which was kind of like a cylindrical pancake-waffle-type thing, and it was amazing. It had chocolate chips, and together with the coffee was like € 3,60. HOWEVER. Every time I went back to visit Häferl, the place was closed. Every single day, no matter what time of day it was, and there was nothing by way of explanation(«Urlaub”/holiday, etc). When I finally did get back there, true to form, the Häferl Kuchen was delicious(raspberry-chocolate, this time), and the coffee was still big and delicious. .I just can’t fathom why this place is always closed — it doesn’t seem to keep any kind of normal hours, despite what its door sign might indicate. Furthermore, the place is pretty small inside, and there’s not a separate smoking section but people smoke anyway, so it’s kind of icky. I’m always giving this place second chances, though, to be open and let me have that cake + mélange again! The last few times I’ve gone by, either only the outdoor seating was open(and they were only serving non-coffee beverages — what?!), OR it was closed entirely to the public, though completely full of people inside. I get the feeling that this family-run establishment keeps loose hours and might hold family reunions or something regularly, and/or rent out the facility at random. It’s kind of a bummer for those of us who really like the café and never know when it will actually be open, but if you happen to walk by(and it is open!), do stop in and try the Häferl Kuchen and their large mélange.
