I had a late lunch at a Japanese restaurant in Kazimierz called Edo. Nice place; bamboo patterned wallpaper, wooden table mats, and staff in kimonos. I ordered Gomoku Sushi which had prawns, crab stick and unagi on a bed of rice(35PLN) and a flask of warm sake(26PLN). The meal looked good, but the unagi was a little dry and lacking that marvellous soy-based glaze that makes it normally such a luscious dish. The prawn was just a prawn really. Nothing special there. There were also a couple of crab sticks, some rather tasteless green stuff that may have been seaweed, a wad of pickled ginger, some sliced mushrooms that also tasted slightly pickled, and little roulades of egg which were actually the tastiest thing in the bowl. Overall, not bad and compared to the price of an equivalent Japanese meal back home, pretty good value.

Edo is one of the best sushi bars in Krakow and in my view the best value for the quality. I have been a regular for many years and have never been disappointed. With the option to order from Edo Fusion next door as well, it’s also great for eating with friends when not everyone wants sushi. In the back there are private rooms in a Japanese style with low tables and cushions on the floor. I personally grew out of sitting on the floor to eat at about the age of ten but kids love to eat there.

I had dinner here. I had the tuna nigiri, duck teriyaki and boiled rice. The sushi here is amazing and worth getting. The main is great but expensive. This is a great place for sushi. The tuna nigiri had little sesame seeds on it which added quite a nice flavour. It also has kirin beer. My favourite beer in the world. :D
