Having seen fabulous reviews for this place, finally got around to checking Lo Scrigno out. Walking in, the restaurant is quite elegant and on a Wednesday evening at 19:00 was completely empty and in fact we were the only diners the whole evening which was surprising but great if you like privacy and good service(very helpful service with honest recommendations). The food was generally excellent but with significant missteps. The baby octopus starter was amazingly good but my wild boar pappardelle lacked the richness of the sauce that I expected and was so oily that I didn’t want to finish it. My dinner date’s meal was enjoyed and the chocolate soufflé we shared was amazing(the best I have eaten). The wine was OK but good value for money. The restaurant is quite expensive(except for the wine) for Krakow but not for the standard if you go for the seafood. I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t like seafood(my poor companion) as the alternatives are very limited. We really enjoyed our evening though.

The thing I love most about Italy is the food, and now that Lo Scrigno is in Kraków, I don’t have to go to Italy any more! This is real Italian food made by real Italians(and one Poltalian) that tastes just like in the best restaurants in Italy, with wine from the owners’ own Tuscan vineyard at ludicrously low prices. The prices for the food aren’t quite as surprising as they are for the wines, but they are worth every grosz. Having said that, I can’t think of a time that I wasn’t given a free digestivo and crostini after my meal — just like in Italy, half of what you get isn’t on the bill! They also have a great little take-away window on the street with paninis and slices of pizza that rival any other take-away options in Kraków. If only they sold their spectacular espresso at the window! If you love Italian food, it seems like you have a lot of choice in Kraków, but really your only choices are Lo Scrigno or Bianca.
