4.5 stars rounded up for great service! Thanks to the review for mentioning it was in the Verdanza Hotel or I would have never stumbled upon this place! This was, among one of the best meals I had in San Juan, sadly I did not get a chance to go back to eat it again! I got the Churasco with chimichurri sauce and mamposteao rice-DELISH. The rice had bits of sweet plaintain in it, it was like eating sweet spanish rice-sooo full of flavor! The steak was a tad overdone(I wanted medium) but still good with the chimichurri sauce! Manager there is SUPER nice and personable-we chatted for a bit during my visit. The bartenders are also very nice. Overall, I loved this place. It was an easy walk from my hotel, The Intercontinental, right behind(and across the street, so diagonally behind) the plaza where burger king, Chuch’s Chicken, ponderosa, and Mi Casita are located. They also have a daily happy hour, basically the entire time they are open(dinner only, no lunch sadly!), shots for $ 4 and beers for $ 3(tax included). Check them out! P. S. Its actually called Home, now. They switched names earlier this summer, the manager said, but same chef and owner, similar Puerto Rican menu with traditional items, with some added. And don’t let the new sports bar décor fool you-the food seemed authentic and it tastes great!

on my last night in the area, I ended up here, and it turned out to be a great choice. For a Sunday night, it was pretty empty but the Verdanza Hotel has like 4 other options to dine at. The waitress, tho very helpful on food selections, was pretty slow, especaially for a pretty empty night. A gentleman who was obviously the manager, definitely made up for her slacking and made the evening great, making sure our dishes were to our liking. The Chicken mofongo, yes!!! wish i had tried the creole sauce, the garlic was just a little too powerful, but still what a dish! The waitress recommended the fried pork chops and mixed rice. Huge portions and just extremely well cooked! If you’re in the Carolina area, you have to make a stop here!

This is a bar with this restaurant next to the lobby in Verdanza which naturally became a gathering place for coworkers after the meetings. They have pretty good beer selection and decent Pinot Grigio for me. Normally it is half empty down here but it is crowded during on Valentine day. We all liked so called local dish Mofongo or Trifongo. I loved those with fish but steak one was not even close to Raices one at Old San Juan. Mofongo with fish and Creole sauce was tasty with a bit spiciness. Creole Sauce is a bit salty and over seasoned. But if mixing Mofongo with sauce, it tasted great. Monfongo is a mix with Plantian has a bit harsher taste than potato or taro. I do like it. The services were always great. The bar tender sometimes was overwhelmed by our big group of people but always had the big smile on his face.

Great food. They have a wide array of great Puerto Rican foods. The mofongo was ample and tasty. Service was pleasant, although a little slow. However I think things are much more relaxed here and the pace in restaurants seems to be slightly slower. Nevertheless, this is a good option for a good Puerto Rican meal.

Excellent service! Excellent food. We had the fried cheese and cheese and prosciutto as appetizers. Nicely presented. My son had cheese burger and French fries. Husband and I split a chicken wrapped in bacon, stuffed with plaintains. The entrée we huge, and sufficient for sharing. We VERY good! Dessert was chocolate cake with ice cream, easily shared by three. Out last night in PR, we saved the best restaurant for last.

One of the best meal I’ve had so far in PR. For the appetizer, we ordered the setas and meat turnover. They were both good but not super impressive. However, the entrees Puerto Rican pork chop and the mixed seafood were absolutely fantastic. I mean, I’m a Chinese and I’ve had pork for my entire life and always thought Chinese made the best pork. But this pork chop was amazing, one of the best pork I’ve ever had in my life. My husband ordered the mixed seafood. Super as well. Another good thing is that all entrees come with a side. However, the portion of the side is huge. It’s almost as big as an appetizer. I ordered the sweet plantain and my husband got the rice with beans. They were both awesome. I was a little disappointed by the mojito though. Not as good as I expected. The two waiters were were very nice. But we were waiting for the check for quite a long time(it seems to happen a lot in PR. I don’t know if its a cultural thing). I would highly recommend this authentic PR food restaurant. BTW, it is located in the hotel Verdanza. Don’t miss it!

Coladas is located in the Verdanza Hotel, I can’t speak on the food as I wasn’t there to eat, I was there to watch the Redskins on Monday Night Football. I had a mojito, and I must say it was good. Nice mix of mint and lime juice. They use 151 Bacardi as the rum of choice but were a little light on the shot, definitely strict on the amount of alcohol they put in my drink. Service was just okay, I had to make eye contact with the bartender several times before she asked me what I wanted or even acknowledged I was there. Watching a game or a sporting event here is a good idea, they have several TV screens as well as a projector and screen. I wish I could have tried the food because the menu looked good but I had already eaten, maybe next time. Just okay but worth a trip if you’re staying in the hotel.

I am only reviewing drinks– did not eat here. In PR this is the place to go for drinks. VERYCHEAP($ 6) and the coladas include Bacardi 151, so you get your money’s worth. Stayed at El San Juan and still came here for drinks because they were half the price of those at the resort(and they tasted better).

Nice place to grab a bite and wet your thirst. Upscale sports bar is how I’d classify this one. Plenty of TV’s but none had sound… Latin music dominates instead. Decent local menu. I had the garlic shrimps and goat cheese as a few tapas with a few glasses of wine. The shrimp was good and the goat cheese in a walnut encrust accompanied with a balsamic reduction drizzle was fantastic. Very limited wines by the glass but the bar staff is very professional and knowledgeable. If you ask, they’ll allow you to bring a finer wine by the glass from the wine bar accross the lobby.

The bacon wrapped chicken was very good, heck, anything wrapped in bacon is good. The rice was good too.

This restaurant is amazing. I stayed at the intercontinental last week and came here for dinner twice it was that good. It’s a little off the beaten path, but worth it! Both times I got arroz y habichuelas and empanadas de carne, which was enough food for me. The beans are like a stew and AMAZING! The second time we also got the fried pork bits(can’t remember the name in spanish) and they were delicious. Service was good. Atmosphere is nice and quiet. 5 stars definitely.

every time I stay at this hotel I go to this restaurant. it’s informally elegant, they play fantastic music, the drinks are very, very good and have good prices. the traditional pr food is excellent and the trifongos are out of this world. I now own an apartment in san juan and I still go to eat at this place frequently.

Located inside the Verdanza hotel, Coladas is a small casual restaurant with an upscale feel. We ordered the steak mofongo and the churrasco a la parrilla. While we waited for our dishes, started off our night with some mojitos and Magnas. Make sure that your mojitos come with rum. It took some time for our meals to come out(the churrasco dish was warm, not hot). The steak mofongo was perfect. There is a bar adjacent to the table area. Should you feel the need to dine and watch some NBA action… Basketball is afterall, an obsession here.

Our waiter Viktor was great… The cheese is amazing. Bacon-wrapped chicken and rice was delicious. Good music, drinks cheap. Seems family friendly. We’ll be back!

My meal in an of itself would give this location a full five stars. My friend’s food wasn’t outstanding, so I just gave it four. The frozen drinks were $ 6.50(make sure you say you want them with rum!) and were rather large for the price in that area. They come served in fake coconuts, which is a little cheesy, but hey, we’re in Isla Verde… We started with Puerto Rican Fried Cheese for an appetizer. The cheese was incredibly tasty, and be warned NOTHINGLIKEAMERICANCHEESESTICKS. It’s WAY better!!! The sauce wasn’t as good as with other places we tried, but the cheese was the best. For my meal(which I rank in my top five meals of all time), I got Chicken Breast Stuffed with Sweet Plaintain and Rolled in Bacon. The waitress(in broken English) described the sauce as some sort of Passion Fruit sauce, and the rice(Momposteo Rice) was the best rice of any variety I’ve ever had. Everything has strong complementary flavors that made it hard to stop eating when I got full! That passion fruit sauce, man, I’m drooling now thinking about it! And the chicken could be cut easily with a fork. If you go to Isla Verde, you would be missing out if you don’t try my meal. My friend got the Grandma Style Flattened Steak with Sauteed Onions which didn’t have a lot of flavor, so I wouldn’t stray from the Chicken. The restaurant is in the Holiday Inn, less than half a block from the Embassy Suites and several other major hotels. The décor seemed more Indian than Puerto Rican, even though the food was Puerto Rican, but the service was very good. We had a sweet waitress who recommended my dish. ENJOY!!!
