After discovering that my 24 hour hang-out spot in Isla Verde is no more(RIP El Taquito), I needed a new late night place to feed my face. Boyfriend and I stumbled on Kintaro. As soon as we walked up, there was someone waiting at the door to welcome us. I was astounded at how cheerful the staff was at 2:30 in the morning. I was even more impressed that this place did not look or feel like your average after-hours spot: crawling with loud, drunk people and other kind of foolishness. Instead, it was a calm and relatively quiet atmosphere, with a considerable number of other diners present given the late hour. Guess we weren’t the only ones in need of a late night sushi fix. We ordered sushi pizza and shumai shrimp dumplings to start. The dumplings were great. The sushi pizza was… interesting. It was an appetizer-plate sized disk of fried tempura, topped with spicy tuna and drizzled with tempura sauce. Boyfriend liked it; me, not so much. We also had an Alaska roll(smoked salmon, cucumber, and avocado) and a San Juan roll(tempura shrimp and cream cheese topped with fried plantain). I’d never had fried plantain on a sushi roll before but DAMMITITWASGOOD! Be advised that if you ask for water, you will be served bottled water(because the tap water in Puerto Rico is NASTY!) at $ 2.50 a pop. No big deal, but nobody told us this when we asked our waitress for 2 glasses of water.

Excellent service, open till late hours, great sake, and sushi. A nice, clean, and small«want to get away from the crowd» sushi place to go to.

Superb sashimi and sushi PLUS late-night delivery to hotels located in Isla Verde, Condado and Old San Juan! Their Salmon Sashimi is great and they make their cuts nice and thick. I wish they had peanuts so that I could order a Peanut/Avocado Roll… hopefully, in the future they will. They also offer Chinese food here and while it looks great, I’ve never tried it. Don’t hesitate to order from here, even if you know sushi like the locals know their coffee. Puerto Rico is so great!

Glad we came across this place. It wasn’t on Unilocal and gave it a shot and didn’t regret it! I liked it so much I added it. Had some gyoza, noodles, tempura and it was great appetizers. Dinner was Sushi for adults and tempura chicken for kids. Everyone enjoyed the food and the staff was great and very attentive! The only negative was a lot of the rolls had crème cheese and they are a little heavy handed, so you may want to tell them to go a bit light. Other then that a great spot.

Kintaro is a good place for people to eat in, there is a convenient place near San Juan, and I went to there for vacation, it was a good spot for us especially at mid night. I ordered a crazy roll and a pink dinosaur roll was really good. The services was very good and very fast. And they do have professional chef for Chinese food and sushi. There is a good place when people are traveling in PR. I had a good vacation and I will back there soon.

Went with the Family probably around 9:30pm and it a bit small but nice. We had some rolls and botice that the price its a bit hi, for the portions. However, the service was fast and the taste was ok(not impressed). I bealive that if price lowers a bit could be back again,

On vacation for Florida I’ve been to a couple of Chinese/Sushi restaurants this one by far THEBEST! Go check it out! If you like spicy you can ask for it! Highly recommend it.

Food was good– run by a hard working Chinese family. Speedy and portions were ok. Sushi roll combinations were innovative but man, what’s with all the rolls with fried components, and cheese? On last count almost half the rolls have CC(cream cheese) in them. Oh my sore dairy intolerant stomach… My pet peeve, per uploaded photo, is any restaurant who pre– add tip(of which they do here). I get it if it was a group reservation, and we took a lot of space… But I ate by myself. At the sushi bar. I should be given a choice. Bottom line: pretty good dinner spot in among land of chain or fast food places, but disagree with the billing system

Average place but they are open late and they deliver to isla verde for sure. Got some rolls and some chinese food but like I said it was average and would go here if I was feeling really lazy. The prices are comparable to every other sushi place on isla verde ave and unlike the other ones, not sure if this has parking and/or valet for I did take out

Pros — Valet parking Cons — Unprofessional and questionable kitchen ethics. A friend was dissatisfied with his 2 crazy rolls and sent them back. Because he had eaten 2 out of the 10 pieces they said they had to charge him for one — fair enough. However, when they brought us back 3 of those pieces to complete one order of 5 pieces, they brought out the sushi piece that had been picked at and dissected by my friend. Out of the perfectly untouched 7 pieces, they brought out the one that was picked at. The only reason why they would serve that back is because they wanted to serve the remaining 5 pieces to the next customer who ordered a crazy roll. And that is EXACTLY what they did when the table next to us ordered just that. I had a clear view of the kitchen/sushi bar and was appalled. That should never be done! What if we had licked a piece of sushi, or coughed on it with a nasty flu? I will NOT be returning.

Pretty good sushi. They were friendly and relatively fast. The prices were okay but nothing too fancy or flavorful about their sushi. Best thing is that they’re open late.

Came in with the boyfriend and shared an eel cream cheese roll and a spicy tuna avocado roll. Neither were to be impressed with because the avocado was tasteless, unripe and hard(Why!!! Avocado is one of the native vegetables of PR and it was terrible! We have way better avocado in NYC and that ish isn’t even grown here, pshh.) Also the tuna had a fresh… out-the-can taste. Weirdly too, the wasabi wouldn’t dissolve in my soy sauce even after stirring it a bunch of times, what was that? Year old wasabi? Never seen it happen before. Next up was the fried rice which was rubbery, too salty and soaked in oil. Although I had asked for vegetable fried rice, I got the chicken which was very, very bland. Most shocking is their exorbitant cost, even compared to the usual NYC prices I’m used to. I give it one star for its’ convenience in late hours but I would rather hit up a fast food joint next time.

Looking for a quite place to eat sushi… this is a nice choice. Will definitely visit again. Good prices even though its in the turist area. Parking is kinda complicated, but you can find a place down the street. Recommend!

I wanted something to eat before heading back to the vacation condo across the street. I ordered gyoza and one of the special rolls. Everything tasted really good. I thought the special rolls were a bit overpriced though. I would go back if I stay in the area again.

The Kintaro is a smallish, café style sushi bar, situated about 10 mins walk away from The El San Juan hotel. As you walk in the door, you are acknowledged but not particularly warmly greeted by the waiters. You are then directed to the nearest empty table and the menu is hurtled in your general direction. The order is taken and we’re not sure if we’ve ordered too much or too little, as the waiter seems totally non communicative, although not in a nasty way. We order spiced salmon sushi, Teriyaki beef, chicken satay, special fried rice, prawn tempura amongst others and everything was jolly tasty. Price works out about $ 36 pp with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Not the place to visit for a romantic Saturday night out with somebody else’s wife but well worth a visit for the food and entertaining service.

I feel like perhaps my husband and I were in a mutual dream when we ate here. I googled this place and it doesn’t seem to exist. Oh, but it does. It is located on the ground level of the shopping center that is directly in front of the Walgreen’s parking lot on Ave Isla Verde(a few blocks away from the Inter Continental, across the street from the alley that is beside the San Juan Water Club). Biggest pro is that it is open until 3 am on a Monday night. Not sure about the rest of the week. There is an extensive specialty roll list and the service is great.
