Tapas extraordinaire! This is THE place to go when you want tapas. Beautifully presented plates of delicious food. We sat outside in front and ate our dinner. Started to rain and the waitress came and covered us with the standing umbrella. Lovely evening!

I gave this restaurant 4 stars because the food is very good. However it’s a casual place with a somewhat limited menu. The arugula salad(very good) and the roasted peppers(also good) are basically the only vegetable options on the menu, other than fried potatoes and possibly a mushroom tapas. However, the protein options are great. The fish tacos are the best we’ve had in PR, and the octopus and lamb skewers were also excellent. The service was great, and there is casual outdoor dining, which had a neighborhood feel as we watched joggers go by and chatted with a woman at the table next to us that lives in the area.

Delicious tapas restaurant in Condado. I made reservations for two the day prior to secure good seats for the flamenco show — it starts at 8:30pm on Thursdays. I arrived five minutes prior to my reservation and was immediately seated at the requested table. The waiter(Tommy) quickly visited the table to introduce self and provide menus. He was polite, friendly and suggested a wine when I noticed they don’t serve Riesling. I ordered Lenda, Albarino which resembles Riesling — it was very good. I also ordered Chorizo al Jerez which is sausage in a sweet sherry sauce, croquetas del dia which are potato balls filled with ham and cheese — dynamite, and fried calamari in garlic aioli sauce — it was okay. My favorite was dessert — I ordered coconut bread pudding — hottt damnnn — it was served warm with a rich whipped cream on top. I wish I would have ordered another but i was full. The show promptly started at 8:30 pm. The band played lovely music then the flamenco dancer joined. The band played marvelously and the dancer had great footwork. She smiled, twirled and kept everyone engaged. It was quite a show. The restaurant itself is lovely — its dimly lit with beautiful portaits. The bar has stools for those who don’t wish to sit at a table. The offer outdoor seating in front of the restaurant which I would consider only if the band is not playing — you won’t enjoy the show outside. Delicious food. Friendly and knowledgable service. Great show! Happy dining!

Food = 3 stars but with the Spanish dancer = +1star. Total star = 4. Food is good but nothing to write home about. Had croquette del dia, Spanish pepper, arugula salad, jerk chicken. All were average. Also ordered fish taco which was very good. Prices are reasonable.

Great casual dining. Great music :) Just loud enough to make old people talk REALLY loud LOL. Great team of servers working the entire room and not just their stations. Spanish flavors with a slight Boriqua twist. My first restaurant meal in PR. I’ll definitely be back. Tuna tartare has a little too much sesame for my taste but it’s really good :)

The specialty drinks are amazing. I recommend the mula or the ginger n gypsy cocktail! Get some tapas to start(especially if you order one of the amazing paella dishes which takes time to cook) also, I love the fish tacos! You won’t regret giving this place a try!

This place is pretty solid, although not authentically Spanish. Example: our tabla of Serrano ham and Manchego cheese came with two small slices of Manchego and inexplicably four slices of Muenster. Not exactly a great pairing with Serrano ham and not mentioned on the menu. We also had the mussels which were delicious, the calamari which were perfectly fried, and the tuna tartare with taro chips which was the star of the dinner. The sangria was pretty outstanding, so much so that we had three pitchers! The best thing about this place was the service. The waiters were all so friendly, especially Onyx(who will be opening his own place Rare in the next few months-keep an eye out for it!).

Went there for an early dinner while on vacation. Great outdoor seating, but limited. Had some tapas, & ribs. All were very flavorful, especially the sautéed mushrooms. Desserts were great. Had chocolate soufflé, churros with chocolate dipping sauce, and red velvet cake. Overall very pleased. Pice was in line with most of the P.R. Restaurants on the Ashford strip.

Bar Gitano exceeded my expectations. I’m not a huge tapas fan– well Bar Gitano changed that. It is the best on Ashford. I highly recommend the jerk chicken and tuna appetizer. The sliders are delicious… sangria was the best I’ve ever had, white & red. Save room for dessert, try the salted caramel or chocolate soufflé. Not sure why others complain of price. My husband and I each had 2 drinks, food, dessert under $ 50, tasted like $ 150. The food was fresh made to order and the staff was on top of things even though every table was occupied We were lucky to be there on a Sunday — the Spanish band and flamenco dancer was the best entertainment in Condado. I think band & dancer is Thursday to Sunday, double check– you won’t be sorry.

Bar Gitano was recommended to us by a local artist we met while we were on our honeymoon. We headed there for dinner at seven thirty on a Thursday, and we were the only people there except for a few on the little patio. It filled up quickly though! The décor and ambience was nice. Service was OK, but not warm at all. The tapas selection was OK, but limited. Of the ones we tried, the mushrooms were quite good, and the grilled octopus was absolutely excellent. One of the best foods I had in PR! We got a pitcher of white sangria as well, which was good but not very strong at all. Tasty though! It’s a good spot, and better than many in Condado.

Very trendy chic bar. Tapas menu and delicious cocktails. We have now been here two nights In a row for happy hour ! We tried the paella tonight and it was delicious and different. When in Rome ! We have tried lots of Puerto Rican food and this was not disappointing ! If try the sliders for happy hour as well as their $ 5 sangria !!!

Had a wonderful thanksgiving dinner here. While the service was on the slower side, the food was delicious and the unexpected treat of a flamenco show added to the experience. The pan e tomate was a nice starter, though we preferred the ceviche, bright and fresh on a fried plaint aim. The Serrano ham and manchego plate was substantial. The star of the show, though, was the meat paella. Crisp pork belly, spicy chorizo, chicken and a perfectly crunch rice bottom. This is my second time at Gitano and I wasn’t disappointed.

I went here with a group of 5 for a girl’s trip and we stayed along Condado Beach. Bar Gitano was literally across the street so we went to check it out. Our waiter’s name was ONYX. We got the pulopos, tar tar, corquetas, seafood paella and some sangria. The atmosphere was really nice and mellow at first. I really really suggest the paella to share for a big group. I thought it was really tasty and the pulpos was great too. Then, the band came and the flamenco dancer showed up. I didn’t think I would be so excited, but I loved seeing her dance. It was really loud afterwards, but we wrapped up and headed out.

We went to Bar Gitano while visiting San Juan on a Saturday night. We decided to try it based on online reviews. We arrived a few minutes early for our 8:00pm reservation to find the restaurant pretty empty inside, with the exception of one other couple and a group of ladies. We sat there for about 10 minutes without any greeting from a waiter or any water. We made eye contact with several who just walked by like our table wasn’t their responsibility. Finally, one of them stopped and asked had we been helped and we told him no. He apologized and came back a minute later to take our order. We ended up ordering 4 tapas and our drinks at the same time to ensure we wouldn’t have to continue to wait. The food came out very quickly, almost too quick, which left our dishes sitting there to get cold. We did enjoy the bacon wrapped dates, but a serving of 3 dates was definitely not enough. We also ordered the serrano ham and manchego plate. The meat wasn’t sliced thin like usual which made it almost unpalatable. I usually love gambas al ajillo but I wasn’t a fan of their recipe. The garlic sauce had a heavy cream base unlike anything I’ve ever tasted before and had one piece of bread submerged on the bottom. We wanted to see the live music and Flamenco dancer so we decided to hang around and ordered dessert and another round of drinks. For dessert, we ordered the churros. They took around 25 minutes to finally come, longer than we waited for all 4 of our tapas to arrive. They were okay. The dough itself had no flavor but I guess they figured we wouldn’t notice with all of the brown sugar caked on. Also, the chocolate sauce was thin and barely stuck. Over all, it was a nice spot and the food was okay. The initial service breakdown from being seated to greeted and the rushed pace of the meal would be the main reasons why I wouldn’t go back. Lastly, if you use their valet service to park your car make sure to ask them to not leave your windows open. We opened the door to find a roach running across on the dashboard.

Love Love LOVE! Please bring this place to NYC lol It’s the best food/drink/service I’ve had in PR Everything was perfect. Loved the food(chorizo en Jerez and the coca de queso), enjoyed the drink(tormenta), and liked the service Rossana provided. Please stop by and enjoy a few tapas, you won’t regret it!

Excellent customer service! Amazing flamenco show!!! Came in on a Thursday night without a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. However, it is better to make reservations for flamenco nights, Thursday and Saturday nights around 8:30pm… there is a singer, a guitar player and an amazing flamenco dancer wow!!! Talk about real flamenco! I think her name is Patricia. She made us go back to our days in Spain. She was amazing!!! I am not sure if she is the only performer but we were lucky to go on a night she was dancing. Olé! Food was good and prices are average for the Condado area. We had a few tapas: pan con tomate, pulpo and lamb skewers. For dessert, we had a very interesting tart with dates. This tart was a fusion of many flavors from sweet to tart. Everything was delicious but the lamb was scrumptious. It was very tender and perfectly cooked. The service was great. Our waiter, Onyx, was attentive and professional. The rest of the staff was also very attentive even though we were not on their table so you can tell that they have good team work in this restaurant. I will definitely come back when I’m in the island! Overall, good prices for the area, great service, nice atmosphere and awesome flamenco show on Thursday night. I will recommend if you are in Condado looking to have a good time with some tapas, wine, and good music. Buen provecho!

Restaurant play great music, lit very nicely by soft candlelight and some soft electric light, the food is real tasty, had the tuna tartar and it was delicious and I am super picky about my seafood, the lamb squewers are also great, the octopus did not tasty as fresh though, crystal who was my waitress is super friendly, motivated and helpful, she provided me with information on the local places to visit and made recommendations on what to order. Only downside is that they have a TV on the corner with a Heineken sign which cheapens the feel of the place, that’s my only complain and suggestion that they remove those 2 items to class up the place: D would completely recommended it After I mentioned to crystal I didn’t like the octopus she was super nice and offered to comp my meal but I said no and she insisted on at least accepting a free dessert which I could not refuse, one of the best servers I have met, she is definitely an asset to this restaurant

Went there on a Thursday evening to watch the flamenco dance. I didn’t make a reservation, so I asked whether I can be seated somewhere close to the dance stage /area. The hostess was really sweet, and seated us at the best table available despite no reservation, which was totally my fault. Ordered pimientos de padron and ceviche to start, and both were excellent! Definitely recommend the ceviche – it was served on the flattened mashed and friend plantains. So so good. We also ordered the seafood paella to share, but it was too salty. Once we told the waiter, he took it back immediately and prepared a new one. No questions asked; he even said that he could smell the paella being too salty when he was bringing it to the table. True or not, I appreciated the prompt service and the waiter also provided one of the appetizers on the house. The dance was okay, but the overall experience was really nice. The service and food were both excellent(paella #2 was great). Definitely recommend it!

Entertainment 4 stars. Unfortunately we were in the far back and could barely see the flamenco dancer. Although her energy and the band were awesome. Food one star. If you’re familiar with my Unilocal reviews you’ll know I hate a chopped steak. My churrasco came chopped and under cooked. It was served with some kind of cheesy potatoes. Bleh. And like a loaf of bread. Assuming to take space on the plate. Under seasoned steak. Really disappointing. Octopus also under seasoned. And at best mediocre. They make a far better octopus at our local deli to be quite honest. Obviously we didn’t opt for dessert. The sangria was OK. Really orange juicy. At first service started great, but then we lost our server, when our plates were placed down we waited almost 10 – 15 minutes before she asked how everything was. I had clocked out I was so over it. Seemed like the servers were more interested in hanging out with each other. Like I could tell you that the hostess is probably dating the server with the beard. Based on interaction in through the night. Long story short. FOODIESDON’T BELIEVETHEHYPE. This is a place for cruise boat people looking for«entertainment» Not someone looking for an amazing meal. Bleh. Believe my servers name was Rosanna, I hope she learns to gage people. I shouldn’t have to tell you I don’t like it, when you take away my full plate you should have known. Oh wait someone else cleared us out.
