We went for Dim Sum and it was great. The food was excellent, nice subtle tastes. The service was very good. The price was also reasonable. We’ll come back.

Expensive and the food is just not good. I like to eat both americanized chinese food as well as authentic chinese food and this place did neither well. First off, the menu suffered from being too long — a japanese/sushi section, a «chinese» section, a dim sum section, a bubble tea & smoothie section, a hot and a cold coffee section, and then there is an entirely different secret chinese menu(that you have to ask for assertively) with about 40 more options on it. This is a prime example of the old addage: «a jack of all trades is a master of none». The dish that I ordered mentioned nothing about snap peas, yet snap peas comprised over 60% of the plate by volume. The sliced mushrooms on one of our plates bore an uncanny resemblance in texture and thickness to canned mushrooms.

I just hopped in New Taste after flying into San Juan for a late and quick lunch. As many have stated, be prepared for a bit of slow service even if it’s 3pm and the restaurant is nearly empty. Since I was prepared for this, it was less shocking to me. But I can see how watching 3 servers just sit at the sushi bar doing nothing while you’ve been waiting to get your bill for 15 minutes can be frustrating. The prices are extraordinarily high but that seems to be the norm for Asian food in PR. They can get away with charging $ 16 – 18 for orange chicken which was ridiculous to me, coming from Chicago. The atmosphere is what you’d expect for a hole in the wall restaurant right near the main strip of Condado. The décor is cluttered and not much to look at, but everything is relatively clean. I didn’t try much of the food since I was dining alone, but went with the hot & sour soup, a spicy salmon roll, and the pepper tuna roll. The hot & sour soup was a large serving and tasted… like regular hot & sour soup. Nothing special but nothing bad either. The sushi was extremely fresh, and rolled with a very thin layer of rice and a very generous helping of fish in each piece. This fish was no joke — extremely tasty and fresh. I would definitely come back for the sushi if it were a bit more reasonably priced. But you will not be disappointed in the taste. I can’t speak to their dim sum or other kitchen items but if it’s sushi you want, I highly recommend. I also like that they had no problem adding scallions to my rolls for no additional charge and I also got a side of spicy mayo and sriracha for no additional charge either.

Best Chinese food on the island! Being from Atlanta where there is a big Asian population, my family knows tasty Asian food. After eating Puerto Rican food for almost a week we were craving some good authentic Chinese food. After checking out some reviews I came across New Taste. We came around 2 so we had excellent service. We sat on the outdoor patio side which has a tv. It’s not everyday where you can eat Chinese food beside palm trees lol. Food was DELICIOUS! Take advantage of the lunch special; It’s basically like a cute little bento box, portion is decent for lunch. If not go for the bigger meal dishes. I didn’t find black bean chicken on the menu but when I asked, they didn’t hesitate to make it! My parents ordered fresh lobster and they loved it. Everything was great! We ended with bubble tea. Perfect! Fresh avocado honey and coconut milk tea.

New Taste is a Chinese/Sushi restaurant in the Condado area of San Juan. It was delicious — and seemed to be the most«local» of all the restaurants we went to on our trip, which we liked. We had Vietnamese Spring Rolls to start that were nice and fresh, with avocado giving it a particularly sweet taste. We then had the chicken curry that was delicious and the Hao Fun — which are apparently made in house — that were so good. I wish they would open a branch on the Philadelphia Main Line; it would do well. We ate inside because it was windy, but there’s an outside porch as well for al fresco dining. Highly recommended.

Somewhat overpriced compared with my impression for Chinese restaurants. Anyway, I felt most restaurants around this area are overpriced. The broccoli in the sesame chicken is not fresh at all. The bean sprouts are good. Finally got some green in PR! Pineapple fried rice is not very flavourful like that in Thai restaurant.

I agree with other reviewers that have stated the service here is slow to nonexistent, and communication with some servers is hard. Come to this place armed with tolerance. They genuinely look like good people trying to do their best with some language and cultural barriers. Having said that, I can’t imagine why some people are dissing the food, which is by far the most(maybe the only) authentic Chinese food in Puerto Rico. Yes, they also serve sushi and I guess it’s fine as an appetizer, but when you see Chinese people serving food at a place which offers several vegetarian Chinese plates(including some of those rare Chinese vegetables) and Dim Sum, you don’t order Japanese food; and you also try to steer clear of the americanized dishes with the sweet sauces.(Hint: They don’t serve sesame chicken in China.) That’s not what this place is about. Come to this place and try to order the dishes that look most authentic and you won’t be disappointed. Speaking of Dim Sum, trying to get a spot here on Sunday afternoons is very hard because the place is usually filled with Chinese families – good sign right? – having Dim Sum and other dishes that aren’t even on the menu but which I asked about and they’ll make for you if you ask.(I didn’t because the server warned me that it would have a wholly unexpected taste from what we in the West associate with Chinese food and I wasn’t feeling that adventurous that time or any of the many others I’ve been here.) Note to the reviewer who couldn’t find the parking spot, the restaurant has an indoor air conditioned seating area and an al-fresco area. The entrance to the parking lot is between them. Considering that this place has close to no ambiance and the service issue, I considered giving it three stars instead of four but I decided against it because of their truly unique food.

I have to say that this place won my heart when I saw that they had bubble tea, actual bubble tea and not the bubble smoothies that you find else where on the island. They have a wide variety of bubble tea. I had the lychee green tea and my boyfriend had the honey green tea. They were both delicious, sweet and so refreshing I do have to give a special note to the waitress and sushi chef. I completely missed that one of the rolls that I ordered had shrimp in it(I’m allergic) and since I live sleep deprived most days, I forgot to mention it up front. Soooo I was extraordinarily embarrassed when I had to send back my rolls and ask for a different one. The waitress took it all in stride and brought me out another sushi roll(sans shrimp) very quickly. The sushi was good, 4 stars worthy, and the noodles that my boyfriend ordered were also pretty darn good. Overall, this place deserves the 4 stars for their attentive service and amazing bubble tea.

Well hate to say this since it was just posted but here is truth… WAYOVERPRICED… Instead of ponsue sauce we had fish sauce with tempra vegetables… Batter was way to thick on them also. Sushi was on the small size for the price, but fresh. Orange Chicken was very good, but they forgot to bring my rice… Servers were very friendly and location was nice. Parking again an issue on this island.

If it was only the food I would give this place four stars, but even by San Juan standards the service here was glacially slow. Once we actually got our order in it went a little faster but just getting them to take the order was a marathon in patience. Don’t go if you’re starving. For the food I started with a lychee green tea with bubbles which was very good, and we tried the dumplings and spring rolls. Spring rolls were standard, nothing special but the dumplings were very good-cooked well with a very tasty sauce. From there we got the General Tso’s chicken and Mongolian Beef, both of which were very good and neither meat was overcooked which you unfortunately find all too often in those dishes. We paired it with the vegetable fried rice and while everything was large portions nothing was insane, we didn’t end up taking anything home. All in all the food was tasty but the service was an exercise in patience.

Boba in Puerto Rico?! Yup, we found it. This review is strictly for their pearl tea/boba that we bought to-go. LOCATION Not sure if there was something wrong w/our GPS or what but when we put in the address listed on Unilocal,it did not lead us to the correct place. I ended up using the location on Unilocal to guide me though(it is on the peninsula). The road it’s on is very busy so be forewarned. PARKING Unilocal says there’s a private lot. I never did see a sign for it. Next door is a car rental place so I quickly pulled in there and advised my better half to buy it to-go while I looked for a place to park. I never found one in this touristy area and was parked illegally in a driveway for about 15 minutes while they got our drinks ready. DRINKS I had the jasmine milk tea. I was actually impressed but maybe because I really wasn’t expecting much. My fiancé had a caramel milk tea that was way too sweet. I had some of his boba and it was pretty good. Overall, I would come here again for their decent pearl milk teas which I would likely request to be less sweet. However, this area was so busy and difficult to find parking that it would make me hesitate to come here. But since this is the only place in PR for boba/pearl tea, I probably would still do it :)

It is a must-go if you like lobster. In this restaurant, lobster is cooked in traditional Cantonese way with ginger and scallion. It’s very delicious. We also ordered black pepper shrimp(without shells), and it was also tasty . I take one star off because the environment is not that nice.

The four star is for food quality — service is a bit messy and slow. Don’t expect too much from dim sum menu as most are microwave heated The Cantonese symbolic dishes are well done — recommend to try if you are hunger for a real sea food dinner. I would not go there for dim sum

New Taste used to be Great Taste across the street(which now houses a different Chinese restaurant). The menu and local has changed but the essentials are still there and so is some of the staff. You can see some of their menus and the labels on their bubble tea still say Great Taste. They also still have their lobster tanks. Say hello to your new little friends! The Chinese fare here is fresh and not overly greasy. The fried rice isn’t the deep suspicious color of some other places-it’s made in the moment. Their dim sum is definitely the best(possibly the only) I’ve had in Puerto Rico. Mmm roast pork buns. Unfortunately, service can be a bit slow. I was also recently in China so American Chinese food might be ruined for me forever. But this is where we go for our Chinese fix. As for desserts, they have some fried milk cakes served with condensed milk. If you’re not too concerned about your blood sugar levels, go for it!

–2 stars simply for bad service. 3 stars for food quality, ambience & variety of options This place was a saving grace in San Juan for me and my friend because we were just tired of eating plantains, rice & some grilled protein. Located on the busy Avenida Ashford in Condado, New Taste is one of a handful of Asian restaurants in the block/area that provide a much needed change to an otherwise traditional menu option in the city. We chose it because of the fact that they had boba available, a Chinese tea drink with tapioca pearls(boba). We ordered orange chicken, sauteed eggplant &2 boba drinks. They ran out of boba and it took about 15 minutes for them to «get new boba.» Everything was slow or forgotten, like our hot sauce request, so have patience. The food itself was delicious but again, bad service/timing tends to ruin the overall experience. Come by and check it out, because everything tasting delicious and the boba drinks were great, but just make sure you have enough time.

Overpriced Asian food in the Condado district! I’m sure it’s because it’s the only Asian restaurant in the area! We landed in San Juan around 11PM and New Taste was one of the few restaurants opened late that night. Their menu is mostly Chinese but they also offer sushi rolls! OKAYWHYNOT! Prices were steep $ 16 for honey walnut shrimp and $ 12 for the CA rolls. No thanks! Anyway we skipped on their food that night but returned here two days later to try their boba drinks/smoothies after going to the beach. We got their watermelon smoothie and watched the girl who works there pour SOOOO much syrup in our drinks. It turned out soooo sweet, I couldn’t finish mine after several sips! *SKIP*
