We had a group of 14! EVERYTHING from the sea bass to the cheese balls to the ropa V dish from the service and oh the monfongo… shrimp was out of this world! I even brought a birthday cake for one of my guest! The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and patient for our group of type A personalities lol. The night was def memorable! This particular restaurant is on my top 5 of PR restaurants! I have so many!!! Thanks to management and the staff for a memorable night of good customer service and awesome yummy food!!! Yum!!!

I went based on a recommendation per my step mother. The food was delicious and a nice size portion. My meal was 20 $ and worth every dollar of it. I would say service lacked from the waiter we found ourselves communicating with the woman who serves water more than our own waiter. He took our order and never saw him again. Great location it’s on the strip and great for a nice walk afterwards for ice cream :) enjoy!

This is hands down one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to in my life. I already had high expectations after reading the reviews and I was just blown away by the food here. I ordered the black bean filet mignon risotto… wow. If you like risotto you HAVETO get this dish. THEBEST risotto that I have ever had. The risotto will literally melt in your mouth along with the filet mignon. Just writing about it makes me want to go back right now. Phenomenal. I also tried the rope vieja which was superb as well. The mojitos are amazing. Service was amazing. Overall this is just a fantastic restaurant. It was packed every single night for dinner but they move things along very quickly. If you are in San Juan I highly highly recommend stopping by Ropa Vieja Grill its the best restaurant on the strip!!!

This was my introductory meal to Puerto Rico and boy did it not disappoint! So many things were on point with our experience here, we came here after checking into our nearby hotel, based on the recommendation of our taxi driver. The staff was so amazing! So friendly and helpful with selecting our food to even giving us great tips on where to go throughout our stay in PR! The sangrias and margaritas were delicious and potent– just how we like it! The food, THEFOOD was phenomenal! Everything we ordered was better than the last, we ordered a number of appetizers among 4 girls so we can get a taste of everything. One of the great things they had was the truffle risotto– yes you read that right, truffle risotto! When I come back to PR, this is one of those places i will come and dine again :)

My wife and I stopped in today. We sat at the bar, and we were helped by the bartender. We ordered the codfish fritters for appetizer. They were decent the real star of the meal was our main courses. I ordered the mofongo con churrasco. It was amazing. My wife got the ropa vieja, which was great too. Both were cooked perfectly and the portions were great. I hope to stop in again before we go home.

More like 3.5 stars. I got the shredded beef with white rice, black beans, and plantains. The shredded beef was super salty, the fried plantains were not thoroughly cooked. On the bright side, the bread on the table was toasted just right and was really good. The service was also on point. I can’t really comment on anything else besides my dish.

My husband and I decided to check out this restaurant based on the good Unilocal reviews. It’s a little bit fancier than we expected but still there were people dressed in tank tops and shorts. We had an early dinner(5:30−6:30pm) so it wasn’t busy. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the appetizer sampler, goat cheese salad, and chicken mofongo. The appetizer dish is a good way to try out some Peurto Rican food if you’ve never tried it before. It was our first time eating Plantains and we were pleasantly surprised. I thought it was going to taste more like bananas but it was more like a firmer mashed potato. I didn’t care for the beef in the appetizer dish because it was a bit too sweet for my liking. The risotto balls were good, as well as the beef and chicken mofongo. The salad was okay and good if you like your salad on the tangy side. The portions were fairly large but you are paying for it. Appetizers are around $ 15 and entrees are around $ 20 – 28. The Pina Coloda was yummy!

One of the few times Unilocal has let me down. Service was poor on several levels. Barely a smile from our server. Maybe a bad night? It was for us. We were seated in the front center of the room which was fine except for the point I make below. The place has a decent atmosphere. My glass of wine took a good ten minutes. It came after I asked about it. We gave our orders at that point. Our mediocre, unimaginative salads took longer than normal. As we ate them I saw another server bringing two plates out and in our direction. He made eye contact with our server who waved him off(with a smile — the only one I saw from her that night). Back to the kitchen and the heat lamps… yum. As soon as we finished the salads, presto, out came the entrees. In my opinion, she failed the order pickup on the salad which led to the early entrée. I would have preferred some honesty and my entrée when it was intended to be served. I did say something and she had some strange explanation about appetizers which we did not order. To cap it off, the servers congregated through the night next to our table. Too much congregating and too little attention to meal timing. Food was fair at best.

i called ahead and i think i spoke to the manager who told me there aren’t really vegetarian options on the menu but they have vegetables and can make something for me i went in for lunch and the waiter was an older man who said theres nothing vegetarian on the menu. i had to ask him to make me veggie mofongo and he agreed it was absolutely delicious definitely give it a try. they will accommodate you but call ahead to make sure they can the waiter messed up on my friend’s orders and we weren’t really compensated for that error but i guess its ok. everyone loved what they got in the end

We were recommended to go here from the staff at La Concha. Authentic Puerto Rican food, great service! We were seated promptly Sunday night with a table of 11. The restaurant was very busy this evening and yet took care of us in a very efficient manner! Black Bean Risotto was a huge hit!

Unilocal for the win. Looked for suggestions and this place had great reviews — and they were very accurate. Hands down the best dinner on the island! It was an easy walk from our hotel. There were 4 restaurants in a row — 3 of them empty and one with a line outside the door — Ropa Vieja Grill. We saw the line and got nervous but we were seated in under 2 minutes. From what we could see around us, everything looked and smelled amazing. It is very dimly lit… a couple of the tables around us were using the flashlights on their iphones to light up the menus. Noise level wasn’t bad for a capacity crowd. Valerie was our waitress and she was extremely helpful guiding us through the menu and suggesting items based off of what we said we liked. We ordered the following: Apps: Empanadilla Ropa $ 7 — flaky crust and great spiced meat in the center Caesar salads $ 9 — we order these everywhere and this one was big to share Entrees: Chicharron con papas fritas for an 8 year old — $ 15. Puerto Rican chicken fingers, only its real chicken and still on the bone. He thought it was great Bistec al Mojo Isleno $ 19 — #2 recommendation/popularity on the menu. Thin steak grilled to perfection and slathered with onions and garlic which was so damn good. came with rice and beans and she still ordered the mashed potatoes with it… starch lovers heaven Mofongo Ropa Vieja $ 20 — the restaurants #1 go-to dish and with good reason. Two of us ordered these and it’s alot of food and they were cooked perfectly. Literally not one complaint or suggestion to make it better Arroz con Pollo with vegetales mixto $ 17 — normally a boring dish, but this was just as good as everything else. Everything working in harmony and seasoned perfectly. I assume you have to make reservations here to guarantee a spot and we would highly suggest you eat here if you’re near Condado. The best!

I was excited to find 2 of my most favorite foods… Cuban and Puerto Rican, after traveling over 10 hours by air to get to PR we were famished and ready to eat. We were served by a man named Herman, who started out good and was friendly however it went completely downhill from there. I ordered sancocho, didn’t get it. As soon as our food started coming we got it out in pieces nothing came out together it wasn’t steaming hot it was terrible. They charge $ 18+ on all dishes. Not worth it. Had to ask for water refills, and the bill. The server knew he and his kitchen completely messed up. This place is not worth your time or money. Much better places, within a short walking distance.

Meal: Diner for two with drinks. We started with the shrimp with garlic and a salad. When I tasted the shrimp, I said«this is the way shrimp should taste». It was delicious. I had«ropa vieja» and my husband the red snapper. The fish was a bit salty(we tend to eat low on salt so we usually find Latin-American food salty). The«ropa vieja» portion was so big, I had diner and leftovers for lunch. Next time, we’ll split an main course dish. Service: The service was fantastic! Karen was helpful with her side dish recommendations. She was prompt and courteous. Price: $ 93 + tip. Two appetizers, two drinks, two entrees and 1 dessert(guava crème brûlée which was great).

Este este restauran lo indican como uno de $$, cuando en realidad tiene precios de $$$, pero ni el servicio, ni la calidad de su comida y el tratamiento lo merecen. Es una de esas experiencias decepcionantes.

They have like 100 entrees, and not a single one I saw was vegetarian. I got around this by ordering their sides. They knew I was cobbling together an entrée for dinner, but instead of putting it on a large plate like everyone in my 10 person group, they gave me little side dish cups. I don’t care about eating out of cups, but it just drew attention from my friends who were worried about their friend eating sides for dinner. The mixed vegetables side was pretty bland. I wouldn’t recommend this place. They really should just put together one or two vegetarian entrée options(preferably vegan) and label them as such. They already have all the ingredients from other dishes.

First time visiting this wonderful place in PR. Let’s start with the ambiance, it’s slightly a little to dark in the restaurant so I definitely had a slight challenge eating but, the wait staff is quite nice and very accommodating, I inquired about a certain beef, and without me even asking, she brought me a sample! Which was really nice. I ended up ordering that particular beef which was outstanding, it came with rice beans and veggies! All which were cooked to my liking, the food was fresh and authentic. The restaurant was clean. The prices are slightly elevated, probably because the area is mostly touristy. Anyway who ever attends will enjoy! There empanadas were Amazing, I got the beef ones. Definitely check this place out if your close by.

Our first night in San Juan we came to Ropa Vieja Grill. This cute and cozy restaurant is located in the Condado Beach area. You can find parking on the street or pay to park in the lot next to the restaurant.(cash only!) We started off with a yummy red sangria. It was fruity but not strong enough for the price. For an appetizer, we chose the Monfonguitos Rellenos which are plantain fritters stuffed with shredded flank steak. The flank steak was very tasty and seasoned well. Green plantains are used to make monfongo instead of the sweet yellow ones. I was expecting the monfongo to be a little more sweet but was informed that the green plantains are more starchy than sweet. The dish was still very good. For dinner, we split one of the Chef’s Recommendations, the Gallinita Rellena de Arroz Congri or cornish hen stuffed with black beans and cuban rice. I’m sooo glad we split this. It was huge! Then hen was very tender and seasoned nicely. And you can never go wrong with black beans and rice. I would definitely come back when I return to San Juan to try other dishes on the menu.

WHATTHEWHAT??? I must have died from food coma, and somehow forgotten to write a review for this place, shame on myself. Making a reservation is crucial for this place, as it is poppin’ at dinner time! This was hands down one of my top three meals in PR, and every morsel was amazeballs. What really stood out at Ropa Vieja was the steak and shrimp risotto. These two dishes were the best things that entered my mouth the whole trip! Seriously though, could not stop eating the shrimp risotto, perfection is butter and cheesy goodness wrapped into a shrimpy carby bite. I also had the shrimp mofongo which I loved, don’t even get me started on the HOTSAUCE, the house made hot sauce should be poured on every food item that reaches your mouth, drink it, lather yourself up in it, just make sure not to get it in your eyes, because this baby has a nice subtle burn. I wish I had this recipe, and could make it at home! I am willing to donate one left kidney to get access to this hot sauce recipe. Yes– it’s that serious.
