Mala Vida is a must go place at Old San Juan. The atmosphere is fantastic, the attention amazing. The best MOJITOS you will ever taste. The tuna tartare you have to try it and will love it. 9 think is clear is my favorite spot at Ild San Juan for a drink a bite or dinner

Horrible service. Waited 40+ mins to be seated with no apology or service from the staff and a very uncomfortable waiting area(if you can call it that). Two parties that arrived later than mine were seated and served first with no reservations. The whole experience was very underwhelming so we ended up leaving. Do not recommend.

Oh god this place… I’ll go back to PR just to have brunch here again. Their dishes are so unique and the presentation is so nice you think twice before ruining the artistry with your fork and knife. I had the smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict, French Toast, and bottomless mimosas,(grapefruit, orange, tamarind, and guanoabana) It was exquisite. The restaurant it self is smack dab in El Viejo San Juan. You have to go early to get parking nearby but there’s a parking lot near by and the scenery is so beautiful you won’t mind the walk. Haven’t been there at night but during brunch time it’s toddler friendly and they take big groups. The décor makes you imagine that poets, artists, and musicians frequent the place; bohemian chic. A must try!

Only had drinks here, but service was good and drinks were tasty. Had the parcha mojito, cute in a masor jar. Bathrooms were eclectic. Waitstaff friendly and helpful. Loved the water being poured from the absolut bottle. :)

So this was probably to worst brunch I ever had. I order french toast… and it was two small pieces of french toast… nothing else… no bacon… eggs…I was left hungry and feeling like I deserve better for the price… plus we got to wait a lot for our food. The place is cool… good music… cool decoration… a John Lennon mural… but the place is not good for anything else other than a drink… got a friend who went for dinner and gave me the same review

We stumbled upon this restaurant while on vaca in San Juan with no particular plans on a Saturday night. We took a peek at the menu and felt like the prices were appropriate and the place was absolutely packed, so we thought that was a good sign. The hostess told us the wait would be over an hour but we were welcome to sit and eat at the bar, which was full. She gave is a great tip that she was about to seat a pair that was at the bar so we grabbed their seats right away. The bar was extremely busy, but even at that, it took us several minutes to get any service or acknowledgement(hence my 4 out 5 stars). Once we did, our drinks were amazing! Very skilled bartenders that work with efficiency. We each had a burrito bowl and they were fabulous. I would go back here in an instant.

We had to wait for a table because there were two very large table sat inside. It would be great if this restaurant was a bit bigger. However they make up for it with their tremendous brunch deal. You get a salty egg plate, a sweet pancakes or french toast plate, and endless mimosas for $ 23. Our server was WAY on top of it and made sure our Mimosa glasses were never empty so that was wonderful. The food was very good especially given the fact that it is not overpriced. While we are waiting for our table we have ordered passionfruit know he does and they were deliciously made. We will definitely go back again. Got 10% off the check for the Unilocal check in, they honor it!

The food is great but the attitude of the employees and the non-cooling air conditioner is a downfall. When the inside is hotter than the outside, it is time to change the air conditioner. Nobody wants to eat in a 90 degree stuffy restaurant.

Hands down the best place for brunch in SJ at the moment. Have been to both locations. Old SJ location is more family oriented, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Placita(Calle Canals) is more for youngsters. The service is over the top. I always get the unlimited mimosas menu which brings two choices(eggs any style + fruit pancakes/french toast/strawberry banana Nutella croissant). The waiters will not stop refilling your mimosa as soon as you’re done with your current one. Plus they have 8 flavors(orange, passion fruit, guava, guanabana, coconut, tamarind, grapefruit and acerola). The 3 latter ones are my favorites. Can keep writing so much about this place… A must go!

The only reason that I am giving two stars to La Mala Vida is because the food looked good. I say«looked good» because I wasn’t able to eat there. We got there and the waitress said it would be a half an hour wait. When we sat down my wife and I ordered and we were very specific with our order(my burger without onions, her eggs scrambled). The server came back 10 mins. later to confirm out order and we repeated our specifications. After more than an hour, our food arrived with onions and eggs over easy. This was not complicated food and should not have taken over an hour to prepare. And if so, the order should have been executed properly. After speaking to our server, we left the establishment and ate at a restaurant accross the street. I should note that our server was incredibly nice, always smiling and seemed upset at the lack of organization in the kitcken. In short, La Mala Vida, is bad indeed.

If you’re looking for an awesome place for breakfast or brunch in San Juan then this is the place to go! We ordered the Eggs Benedict and the banana-nutela stuffed croissant and it was by far the best breakfast we’ve eaten our entire trip. This is definitely one of those go-to spots each time you visit Puerto Rico.

Amazing margharittas. The only good guacamole I had in old San Juan and friendly service. A little of the beaten path but well worth it!

Brunch has a good variety of different plates. Delicious eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, awesome croissant with Nutella. Mimosas with a range of fresh juices.
