I made a day trip to Malmo from Copenhagen(because why not?!) and my first order of business was to find Malmohus Slott. It is within easy walking distance of the train station, through a heavily pedestrian area with shops and restaurants. There is also a large public garden behind the castle if it’s a nice day and you want to walk around(it was very windy and cold, so I didn’t really stop to smell the(dead) roses). Your entry into the castle covers the castle itself, the museum behind the castle, the photography museum across the street in the governor’s hall, and the science museum down the road. That seems like an amazing bargain, given that it was one of the cheaper museum entries I paid on my trip. Unfortunately, the castle section itself is not all that impressive. There are some rooms on the upper level with some furniture, but it is a bit piecemeal and it’s unclear what was brought in from elsewhere versus what was actually there at some point in history. The lower section was turned into an exhibit on prisoners of the castle. There were warning signs that it might not be suitable for children and I agree — it was pretty spooky and jarring at times(guillotine sounds out of nowhere!). If you explore a little bit, you can get into one of the fortress towers on the corner of the castle, but again, not really impressive. The museum itself was okay. There was an interesting exhibit on the large exhibition that was held on the grounds just before one of the world wars(WWI?). There was also a beautiful organ if you walked through the section with Rococo and other antique furniture. It’s in a little chapel /performance area, so just keep going. It was a total surprise when I entered the room and turned around to leave! I realize that this is going to come across as a bit entitled, but the museum signs were only in Swedish. I get that I should not expect English signs, but I got so used to having them over in Copenhagen that I suddenly felt unwelcome in this museum. But that was balanced out by the docents — everyone was very nice.

Nice mix of exhibits but make sure all galleries are open before purchasing a ticket.
