Manor Warenhaus

Top Lage mit Anbindung an ÖVs. Kein eig. Parkhaus. Batteriewechsel Uhren innerhalb weniger Minuten mögl. Qualität und Präsentation Esswaren ist top. Natürlich nicht immer ganz günstig.

When looking for a flat in Basel — we gave the relocation assistant one criteria — It MUST be within walking distance of Manor!!!
Manor is a department store of similar style/​quality as Macy’s (USA) or John Lewis (UK) BUT in the basement there is a grocery store/​food hall that is simply amazing! What’s most amazing is it really can be your everyday place to shop — but in addition to your onions, potatoes, juice, milk, flour, cleaning supplies… there is also an astounding selection of cheeses, meats, poultry, fish, fresh bakery for breads and cakes and a small café with pizzas, salads, stir-fry’s (a bigger café is on the top floor).
There is a good selection of organic produce (labelled BIO), and most of the fruit and veg are local and very seasonal. In the US and UK I got used to having access to pretty much anything at any time of the year, so the seasonality was a bit strange at first but now I look forward to changes in produce as the year progresses.
Besides the cheese… I mean food, there is a good selection of accessories (I LOVE tights and nearly passed out when I saw the selection), clothing for all the family, beautiful home goods, and a good selection of electronics. Prices are, well, Swiss but overall its not too bad and twice a year (Jan and July) there are really good sales.
Maybe being within walking distance wasn’t such a good idea… ;-)

Da ich aus beruflichen Gründen mehrmals im Jahr in Basel unterwegs bin, verbringe ich dort meist auch mehrere Tage. Bei meinem ersten Aufenthalt vor 4 Jahren benötigte ich kurzfristig neue Lederschuhe, da ich meine blöderweise zuhause vergessen hatte.
Als erstes steuerte ich das Manor Warenhaus an und wurde wirklich sofort fündig. (Glückstreffer nehme ich an) Seither schaue ich bei längeren Aufenthalten in Basel gerne hier vorbei.
Die Auswahl an Bekleidung ist riesig. Egal für welchen Anlass. Besonders gut gefällt mir das breite Angebot an unterschiedlichen Marken. Unabhängig davon welche Marke persönlich bevorzugt wird, ist man durch die zahlreichen Produkte hier gut aufgehoben.
Aus der Beauty-​Abteilung habe ich schon das ein oder andere Mal etwas nettes für meine Frau gefunden. Sie freut sich und ich sehe jetzt schon immer in ihren Augen die Frage, ob ich es ins Manor geschafft habe.
Auch wenn ich kurzfristig noch ein kleines Präsent oder Mitbringsel für Geschäftspartner brauche, schaue ich immer wieder gerne im Feinschmeckerparadies vorbei.
Im Endeffekt eine Top Adresse!

When you cross the river (from old town and a side where train station is), Manor is just a few steps away from the bridge.
It is a department store having great super market on the basement level and good food court on the 5^th floor (it says restaurant on the directory). It is very reasonable and lots of options for salad, desserts and fresh fruit juices. They offer three sizes at different prices. You can choose portion size too!
On 4^th floor, you can find some Switzerland souvenirs and cute accessories/​toys.
On basement level, there are salad bar and bakery and supermarket. Prices are good (a little cheaper than Coop store or other supermarket).
PS: Dairy stuff, chocolate and bread are so good and cheap! Get some!!!

Mittlerweile hat die Food-​Abteilung der alten Rheinbrücke, heute Manor der Globus Delicatessa den Rang abgelaufen. Supertolle Auswahl an Frischprodukten, ganz im Mediteranen Stil. Kein Wunder, dass Man (n) und Frau hier fast nur Feinschmecker antrifft, oder eben die in Basel lebenden Italiener und Spanier etc., die dort nicht higehen würden wenn keine Top-​Qualität im guten Preis-​Leistungsvergleich angeboten würde.
Das Ganze Haus hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren neu Erfunden, das Image aufpoliert und muss sich nicht scheuen im internationalen Vergleich.

Hands down, my favorite grocery store in Basel. It’s a bit more expensive than Migros, but they have a better variety of meats, cheeses, fish, vegetables, and a great store bakery. The store is well organized and everything looks delicious. It’s a great place to get your weekly groceries, or just grab items for a quick lunch. Also, they carry a lot of items (Haribos, Ovamaltine, etc.) that you just can’t find at other grocery stories. It’s worth the higher price.

Also hier ist die Food-​Abteilung natürlich erstklassig, und so sind die Preise.
Aber ich bin gerne hier, kauf was schönes zu essen und geniesse es dann am Rhein.
