Communal tables with Asian cuisine; mostly Thai. Very tasty and a good variety of dishes.

The atmosphere is ok. The food ok. Way overpriced. If you look for authentic thai food I wouldn’t recommend this place. It’s ok to grab something to eat if you’re super hungry and on the way to the cinema which is in the same building. I once ordered the thai beef salad and was disappointed. The taste was ok but instead of calling it a beef salad they should call it an onion salad with a little bit of beef on top. The curries have nothing to do with real thai curry, it’s more like a soup. And when you order the fried rice with shrimp, it comes with no more than 3 shrimps in it. The chocolate cake is very good though.

Love their curry dishes n most of their appetizers n soup. Wouldn’t get the Thai tea though it just isn’t the same from we are use to in U.S. Don’t think they used condensed milk.

I’ve been here many times and always good. I try to come a bit early because it gets very crowded

Not the best place but def nice to get away from the standard heavy food you get in this area. Solid at best…

I joined two locals to eat at Lily’s Stomach Supply on Sunday, May 18. Delicious food and great service despite being very busy with the dinner crowd. most places are closed in Basel on Sunday, but this place is thriving with people.

Lilys is really good Asian fusion food, if you know what to order! Basically, the curry dishes are great, as are most of the main starters. Some of th items are not very good value, like the Roti bread (2.50 for 2 flour tortillas?) but the main dishes are reasonable. Great service, I like the décor, and right off th Claraplatz.

I love Lily’s Thai! A casual and affordable (which is unique in Switzerland) restaurant. The seating is banquet style, shared tables, which makes it very interactive and a place full of energy, again unique for the solemn and serious Swiss.
The food is the highlight, spicy fusion, my favorites are the Curries, but anything I have tried has been delish!

Even though the broad selection of Asian Food (Thai, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, Indonesian) might sound tempting I do not recommend to go there.
The staff is super nice and friendly but at the end of the day I think you mostly pay for the food at this kind of restaurants hence only 3** stars. Sorry lovely staff.
The three of us each tried one dish: the assorted starters, Thom yum gung shrimp soup and salmon teriyaki. I had the salmon. It was good but to me the sauce and marinade was not really teriyaki. The slice of salmon was quite small and the plate was dominated by vegetables. They were mentioned on the menu but ordering salmon I mainly expect salmon not veggies. I tried the soup and again, to me it’s not the original taste of a thom yum. I looove a good thom yum soup. But to get my love it has to taste of fresh ingredients that give it this special fresh sour taste and it has to be spicy on some level. Lily’s soup was ohhkaay but not the right taste. Then I had a look on our friend’s assorted starters and honestly pitied him: 2 falafels, 2 tiny spring rolls, a tiny bowl of salad and small satay skewers… I usually am a fan of assorted plates as to me it’s first about taste and quality and only thereafter about quantity. I really did not envy my friend.
Unsurprisingly our palate was a little unsatisfied after these meals so starter plate guy and I felt ready for dessert. We both chose the macha roll and that roll actually would give a 2** star rating justice: a naked plate, no decoration nothing and a 6 cm «roll» still wrapped in foil. Unwrapped it was nothing else but a waffle biscuit shaped like a tube and filled with macha cream. In a good tea house you might get that for free with your cup of tea… Totally doesn’t qualify as a dessert, dear restaurant manager. So instead of ending on a high note the meal ended with a single biscuit.
I’m not going back there. And again. I think only 2 stars might be enough.

How could anyone rate this place so high? This is not Thai but eclectic mix of Asian food. Very pricey and not so tasty not to mention noisy. I mean I can’t believe how bad food tasted here.
Those who like Thai food ought to check out hole in the wall Thai Café.

This is a place I go back to every now and then as the food is good, not too expensive and you don’t need reservations. You share a table with other people. Try the ginger lemon tea!

«Trendy». So dass es schon zuviel ist. Crevetten waren nicht durch (magen-​darm) und Essen auch nicht speziell. So könnte ich auch kochen.

War dreimal da und dreimal entäuscht. Daher: nie wieder! Mini-​Portionen zu-​auch für die Schweiz-​überhöhten Preisen. Insbesondere ist die Qualität verhältnismässig schlecht: verkocht oder aufgewärmt, lieblos angerichtet und vor allem ohne definierbaren Geschmack. Das hat in keinster Weise etwas mit asiatischer Küche oder frischer Zubereitung zu tun. Auch die stylische Aufmachung macht dies nicht wett.

Das Lily’s ist eher gemütlich; man sitzt auf Bänken an grösseren Tischen und wird von der Bedienung geduzt. Die Preise sind in Ordnung aber auch nicht günstig (ca. 20 – 25 SFr. für einen Hauptgang ohne Reis). Das Essen ist allerdings wirklich gut und was ich sehr schätze, ist die breite Auswahl. Ob japanische Nudelgerichte, Indisch, Thai, Chinesisch; es hat für jeden etwas dabei.

I really love Lilly’s (on the surface). The place is really nice, and had a great BoHo atmosphere. The service is usually pretty good. AND the Thai Iced Tea is so scrummy!
I went here yesterday with a group of friends and had a Latte Machiato which is alright. not as good as Sutter or the other Basel cafes. But it was OK.
Me and a friend decided to share a portion of spring rolls. and this is where the three star’s come in. It was 13.50chf and when they arrived there were 5 VERY tiny spring rolls. They were about the size of my big toe! (Which isn’t really big). It was beyond disappointing. Plus there weren’t really any vegi’s in the spring rolls. they had vermicelli noodles and not much else. As far as value for money goes they are the worst.Mr.Wong’s is better in this case.

This is one of my few places I like to eat in Basel. The food is descent for an Asian Fusion restaurant. My favorite dish is the Lamb with Rice, Dal and Pappadam. The curries should include a scoup of rice. This place is full all the time. The prices are ok for people living in Basel but the prices are definitively overpriced compared to Noohn but then again all the dine in restaurants are about the same price and over…

Wir gehen seit 4 Jahren sehr gerne bei Lily’s essen. Es ist lecker, unkompliziert und die Preise sind auch OK! Es ist immer voll, eine tolle Atmosphäre und nette Bedienung.

Stomach Supply. Wait until you are seated. Ich hätte stutzig werden und am Eingang gleich wieder umkehren sollen. Anbiedernde Anglizismen. Auf cool gemacht, aber irgendwie unpassend. Und auch nicht konsistent, denn der Internetauftritt und den Rest gibt es immerhin auf Deutsch. Man wird platziert. Aha das gab’s doch in der DDR auch schon
Stomach Supply heisst ja streng übersetzt Magenzufuhr. Wie kann ich mir das praktisch vorstellen? Rein in den Mund, weg damit, setzen lassen und tschüss ?? Wahnsinn, aber selten einen Anglizismus erlebt, der so daneben ist, wie das ganze Restaurant leider auch. Man sitzt in einem Glaskubus an langen, unbequemen Holztischen auf ebensolchen Bänken. Ich hatte Red Curry. Dieses kam in einer viel zu grossen Schale, wo in ca. 2 Liter Sauce einige völlig zähe und faserige Entenstückchen ein herzhaftes Vollbad genommen haben (aber ohne Schaumbildung ;-)). Weder die Sauce noch das Fleisch hatte einen definierbaren Geschmack, Gott sei Dank kann man mit dem Reis nicht viel verkehrt machen (fünf Punkte für den Reis :-)). Das Personal war ok, die schlechten Erfahrungen der anderen kann ich nicht teilen. Die Preise sind relativ günstig (Leute aus Deutschland, bitte nicht vergessen, Basel ist nicht Berlin-​Kreuzberg, wo es die Döner bereits ab 99 Cent gibt!), aber mehr ist dieses Essen auch nicht wert. Kurze Rede langer Sinn, wenn ich meinem Magen etwas zuführen will, geh ich nächstes Mal um die Ecke zu McDonalds, da sind die Anglizismen ehrlich und passen immerhin und ich weiss, was ich für drei bis vier Franken bekomme.
P. S. Wenn das Essen schnell serviert wird, ist das auch nie ein gutes Zeichen. Ich frage mich immer wieder, wie die Leute das als positiv werten können, wenn die Mikrowelle nach 60 Sekunden ping macht ;-)

Do you want really spicy Asian food? this is the place :) Of course, you have mention… you want Asian (or whatever country) spicy ;) otherwise you will get Swiss spicy .
So far, I have had Green thai curry with tofu (instead of chicken) and the Indian dish with puri.
Both were wonderful and the quantity was enormous (compared to some other places).
I wish they had more veg. options…
The staff is very friendly and will try to accommodate your needs though (like green curry with tofu instead of chicken).
Now I go here almost every month.

Interesting diversity of Asian dishes in a lively/​casual setting.

For Basel, Lilly’s offers something different. Various Asian foods make up the menu. The papaya salad is actually spicey, as well as the whole fried fish. Both very tasty. The chicken satay comes with an overly sweet peanut sauce. I’ve been at Lilly’s a few times & ordered various items & I’ve not been disappointed.
The service is decent. It is seat yourself during the slower hours and «wait to be seated» during rush hours. You can ask for an English menu. A glass of tap water is 2 Swiss Francs, which is completely ridiculous.
They do have an outdoor area during the warm months, although the smokers tend to hang out there.

While I recognize that many (many!) people love this place — it’s always packed and very noisy, I find it just ok. I’ve eaten in 2x and gotten take-​away once. It’s pure fusion — very common in Basel — so the menu is kind of all over the place (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, etc.) and many of the flavors aren’t that distinct. It’s «seat yourself», so you’re apt to be ignored — especially since, with the crowd, you are likely to go unnoticed as you walk through the door. As for the food sampled:
1. Fried whole fish — looked impressive and is one of the better dishes I sampled here. Note: this is not available for take-​away.
2. Shrimp pad thai — without a doubt, the worse pad thai I’ve every had. Oddly off-​putting bitter/​sour flavors, not enough salt, gummy noodles. Yuck!
3. Massaman curry — very solid rendition and something I would order again.
It’s Switzerland, so expect everything to be way more expensive than expected. This place is no exception.

Das Essen ist zwar ordentlich lecker Service und Atmosphäre stehen aber dabei ganz schön im Abseits.
Die Preise sind astronomisch hoch und stehen in keinem Vergleich zur Qualität oder Freundlichkeit des Personals.
Warum da immer so viele Leute drin sind, ist mir schleierhaft.
Auch von Freunden habe ich schon mehr als einmal gehört: Einmal und nie wieder!

Ware zum Abend mit einem Kollegen hier und daher hat uns der Trubel nicht wirklich gestört.
Der Service war auch im und irgend jemand war auch immerhin der Nähe.
Das Essen allerdings war nicht herausragend. Ich muss leider sagen, dass ich aufgrund des Preises, der Anzahl der Gäste in des Ambientes vom Essen wirklich enttäuscht war.

3*** für das Essen, 1* für das Service, 1* für das Ambiente, war 2 mahl da und nie mehr wieder!

nice international place. Wir waren in einer grösseren Gruppe und nicht auf gemütlich eingestellt. Daher hat uns die Geräuschkulisse nicht gestört. Allerdings wra der laden proppenvoll und es war ziemlich heiss. leckeres Essen, leckeres Bier — empfehlenswert.

Immer voll, relativ laut, aber das Essen ist super und steht schnell auf dem Tisch.

great place to eat for smokers and for people who have never had authentic Asian food — because if you have, then you will feel a bit disappointed with the taste and the quality of the dishes they serve at Lily’s. For example, the beef pad thai is too salty (too much soy sauce — the rice noodles got completely BLACK!!!) The dishes at Lilys are definitely edible but by no means special/​great.
The atmosphere is ok. i guess one should not expect great atmosphere/​service for this price level.
it is a nightmare for non-​smokers, though. I doubt that I’d visit this place again…

Das Restaurant ‘Lily’s’ bietet asiatische Spezialitäten an. Das Restaurant ist meist sehr gut besucht. Die Einrichtung erinnert ein wenig an einen Imbiss, zumal sie aus langen Holzbänken besteht. Das Essen ist sehr lecker, und es gibt auch einige exotische Getränke, die man sonst nur sehr schwer bekommt. Ein Manko ist aber der Service: Oft etwas unfreundlich, und auch extrem unselbstkritisch. Insgesamt vom Essen her empfehlenswert, wer aber das Essen geniessen will, geht besser woanders hin.

If you go to Art Basel, World Watch Fair in Basel or other fairs and need to find something nice and quick to eat, this is the place to go. Casual eating with various types of Asian food. The Thai curries are good. I like particularly the Pad Thai!

Gemütlich ist dieser Platz sicher nicht, jedoch wird schnell serviert. Das Essen ist akzeptabel, wenn auch die Qualität des Rindfleisches eher grenzwertig ist. Völlig unbegreiflich ist, dass in einem Restaurant, das doch Wert darauf legt, alles à la minute zu kochen, Änderungen der vorgegebenen Speisen schlicht nicht möglich sind. Wer also einen Masaman-​Curry lieber mit Chicken als mit dem fasrigen Rindsfleisch hätte, muss diesen Wunsch vergessen.

esse wirklich gut, aber: eher lieblos serviert, dafür schnell. ungemütlich (wie schon beschrieben mit langen dunklen bänken hat nen charme zwischen waldhütte und stylish).zudem hab ich jedesmal (wie auch schon beschrieben) immer das gefühl, sofort nachm essen gefl abzurauschen zu müssen.im sommer, wenn man draussen sitzen kann, gern. sonst meide ich das lilys.

Ok, fürs erste Rendezvous gibt es sicherlich lauschigere Plätzchen in Basel. Doch die Küche ist wirklich sehr gut. Und deshalb fällt es auch nicht so ins Gewicht, dass die Geräuschkulisse manchmal etwas störend ist. Nachdem immer mehr Basler Restaurants am Wochenende fast nur mit Reservierung zu bekommen sind, ist es schön, wenn die Stadt noch einen so spontanten Platz für schmackhafte und authentische asiatische Küche hat.

Auf ein Jahr gerechnet gehe ich ungefähr vier mal ins Lilys essen. Dort geniesse ich meistens ein Yellow Curry oder ein Red Curry, was zu mein liebsten asiatischen Speisen gehören.
Im Lily‘s hat man meistens ein Gefühl der schnellen Abservierung. Sobald man fertig ist mit dem Essen, fragt der Kellner oder die Kellnerin nach Kaffee oder Dessert, in der Hoffnung, das der Gast schnellstmöglich zahlt und verreist, schliesslich stehen am Eingang die nächsten 5 bis 15 Gäste, die auf asiatische Speisen stehen.
Der Charme des Restaurants wirkt sehr nach Kantine mit offener Showküche, da alle auf langen unbequemen Holzbänken hocken und öfters auf die Stichflammen des Koches Woks schauen.
Aber jetzt Schluss mit der Kritik. Es gibt auch viel positives zu berichten.
Das Essen, egal ob Curries, Wok, Soups, Noodles schmeckt super. Mein Freundeskreis und ich waren bisjetzt immer zufrieden mit dem Essen und dann ist es doch sch**egal, wie dass Essen serviert wird oder angerichtet ist. Toll ist auch, dass man in diesem Lokal Unser Bier zu trinken bekommt, das man ja nicht überall trinken kann.
Ausserdem kann man noch Flaschenbier zum Essen aus China und Thailand, sowie aus Singapore, Indien und Japan bestellen.
Viele Speisen der Karte kann man auch take-​away bestellen, die dann vom Velokurier transportiert wird.
Für das Essen, das einheimische Unser Bier Sorte Amber und das sehen und gesehen Flair 3 Sterne. Für die Einrichtung und das Abfertigungssystem 2 Sterne Abzug.

great thai curry here! good place for a delicious lunch…

Asiatisches auf langen Bänken, durchaus lecker, auch wenn die großen Curryschalen doch recht lieblos aussehen. Auch Reishügel auf Teller und Getränke waren nichts optisch wertvolles. Die Preise waren für den Ausländer gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber satt ist er geworden. Man sitzt bei gutem Wetter recht angenehm draußen auf dem Claraplatz, und sonst bestimmt ebenso drinnen. Ich würde den Laden jetzt weder emfpehlen noch meiden wollen.

Nennt sich selber «Stomach supply», Magenzufuhr, tönt so nett wie Fütterung der Massen, ist auch kühl eingerichtet mit langen Tischen und Bänken dran, aber das Essen kommt so lecker rüber, dass man sich meist einreihen muss. Quer durch Asien, Currys in grossen Schalen, indische Brotfladen, Essstäbchen oder Besteck, einfach reingehen, wenn man Hunger hat.
