Brasserie du Belvédère

The place to be if you are looking for a laid back, almost lounge experience in a popular, well decorated and nicely furnitured bar with a great selection of beers.
Also lovely during the day on the patio with the view on the historic city and the Sarine river.
It’s worth the walk from the city center, or just take the bus every couple of minutes.
Make sure to ask if there is service where you will sit when entering.

First, I should say I know this place as Café du Belvédère, and this review is aimed at the café/​bar. I have not had a chance to try the restaurant upstairs (which I hear makes good Thai cuisine).
My wife and I recently moved to Fribourg and this is by far the best place we’ve found to relax and have a few drinks. The view is amazing, the drink selecting is diverse, and the prices are reasonable (especially for Switzerland).
It is a little difficult to find, as it only has a small door that hides on a fairly narrow street. The Tardis-​like interior – much bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside – is warm and inviting with board games, couches, and a good deal of seating. The outside is even better, with an enormous tree providing shade while you enjoy the view of old-​town Fribourg and the river. Plus, there is often live music.
