J’y suis allé à ma pause de midi. Bön restaurant thaïlandais avec clientèle du quartier d’affaires et industriel de Sécheron. Les plats étaient bons, et le service aussi !

Lanna Thai has taught me that even very low expectations can be dashed. I had been hearing about this AYCE thai buffet that they only do on Fridays since I started working in the area almost two months ago. I was skeptical, as I generally associate buffets with lower quality versions of entrees, and I have no interest in stuffing myself with sub-par food just to get my money’s worth. So when we got an invite to Lanna Thai, I thought, hey, might as well give it a try as I’d probably never go here on my own initiative anyway. We grabbed a seat, and our host said we can go ahead and get our food from the buffet. I looked around, and scratched my head in wonder, as it wasn’t apparent where the food was. And then I saw it: a table at a small corner of the restaurant, no more than a yard or so long, with six vats of food.(1) White rice;(2) pad thai;(3) pad woon sen;(4) chicken curry;(5) a beef dish; and(6) vegetable in broth. Six. And one of the six was white rice. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was particularly good. The pad thai didn’t really have any other ingredients in it except for an occasional sliver of egg or vegetable, and the pad woon sen was a bit vinegary for my taste. The chicken, beef, and vegetable dishes were watery. The best thing on the table was probably the white rice. I did have a second helping, but it was only because I refused to let one plate of food be worth CH28. Even by Geneva standards, that’s really pushing it. The place was packed, which made me sad that the many UN buildings in the area seemed not to have any better dining options than this overpriced AYCE cafeteria food. And I thought longingly of the plain salad that I had originally packed for lunch, now abandoned in the office fridge. As this was a semi-business lunch, I was unable to take any pictures of the food. And it will probably remain that way, as I do not intent on going back.

I went here for lunch and the place was packed plus there were little reservation notes on the other tables when I arrived and they filled up in no time. A good sign is what I think. The closest bus stop is secheron if you need to use mass transit. I always judge a place by the pad thai being that its my favorite thai dish. The pad thai was OK, but the green curry was delicious. Everything around me looked fresh and smelled very good. I will try it again, Apparently they have a buffet lunch on Fridays as well that you must come early for.
