The Sumo salad is the absolute best. Comes with crab, lots of fresh lettuce and a delicious vinaigrette. Delicious. Most of the rest of the menu is simple grilled foods. Prawns were great but be aware that you peel them yourself, and you shouldn’t be afraid of salt.

Service was unbelievable. They actually talked me out of the special as it was too much, so I succumbed to phad Thai which I usually avoid unless it’s one of many dishes. 28chf …and a relatively small serving. It was good, not the best I’ve had, nor the worst. Will give it another go, because honestly, the people are lovely. Prices in Geneva are insane!!! I started with a 3 star review but after trying another Thai in the area, I felt obligated to up my review by another star. This is a real Thai restaurant. RUN from the one called Pad Thai. it is awful.

I had almost given up on food in Geneva after a few bad, expensive dinners and then I found Sam-Lor. I slightly burned the roof of my mouth, I could not eat this fast enough I was so hungry and it was SO delicious. I’m kind of a Thai food snob but this was authentic, super hot and tasty. The gentleman who took my order was very nice to me and spoke english. One of the best green curries I’ve ever had. I may eat every day here, I’m just so happy to have a delicious place to eat now.

A friend brought me here and WOW for authentic Thai dishes and fantastic service. I ordered the Pangang shrimp, instead of my usual Pad Thai(thats next week). I loved the dish and I tasted my friends fish green curry dish… flavorful, spicy, authentic. They do have daily specials which look like a good deal and nice portion. I think its the best Thai food I have eaten in Geneva for sure.

Went with a friend while on a day off… The lunch specials are incredibly affordable! We paid 18CHF for an entrée and main course. Loved the pannang curry! Staff was incredible kind and let us stay after lunch while we slowly ate and drank.

The restaurant is good and quite even if a bit touristic. Here I had one of the best thai food in geneva

If you fancy Thai, you’ll be in safe hands here. The restaurant has the same typical spartan feel about it you find in a lot of ‘local’ Thai restaurants. It’s subtly fancy with basic wooden furniture and Thai decorations giving you the impression that either a lot of thinking, or none at all, went into the decoration. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and they’re all dressed in a traditional outfit. The food was very good and there was plenty on the plate, I just wish it had a little more flavour to it. I’ll go again if I find myself in Geneva fancying a Thai curry…

I had the Green Papaya salad. Small portion and just average. I got the friend spring rolls based on the picture in the menu. The real spring rolls bore no resemblance, doughy and bland, it was a disappointment. Considering how expensive this place is(yeah, I know it’s Geneva) a disappointment.

I’ve seen numerous mentions of the authenticity of Sam-Lor(the Thai word for bicycle), as close to a «hole in the wall» restaurant as one gets in generally-posh Geneva. Using my measure of authenticity(read: the best places I have been in Thai enclaves in the U.S. where I am also a distinct ethnic minority among the patrons), this place rates an «A+». It was also clear from the demeanor of the restaurant staff that they wanted you to feel as happy and peaceful as possible, notwithstanding their continually frenetic shuffling from table to table balancing dishes and drinks. There’s no question that the gentleness and warmth of my server added greatly to my enjoyment of the experience. I played it safe by ordering two of my regular favorites: Panang Chicken and Yum Woon Sen(glass noodle salad with prawn). In each case, Sam-Lor look the taste experience to a whole new level. The familiar ingredients burst with deep and redolent flavor, but I am convinced that it was the cooks’ tossing in more than a few subtle, undefinable sprinkles of magic that made it all come together so perfectly. Looking around the restaurant, I can safely say that most everyone was living their own version of my story. It is worth noting the rugged, marginally unsavory vibe in the surrounding Paquis neighborhood. Though it’s bustling with tourists and crawling with foodies looking for a fix in one of the area’s well-regarded ethnic hot-spots, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with the idea of my girlfriend venturing there unaccompanied after dark.

Of the two Thai restaurants that I’ve been to in Geneva, Sam-Lor is the better one. It’s slightly more tricky to find than Restaurant Thai, but the food is a lot more traditional. Again, introduced to this restaurant by a local colleague and have been in 2 – 3 times over the years. If it was easier to find and I was a little braver, then I might have been back more. The slight downside is that it’s on the other side of Lake Geneva to the main city centre, and thus puts me off slightly to walk across the bridge and find my way around if I’m by myself. The food is lovely — on my most recent visit, I had the spring rolls and the glass noodles(which come in this really cool pot over a candle!). If I had room for dessert, I would have devoured one! Again, it seems expensive, but I’m comparing to London prices — CHF26 for Pad Thai noodles, if I remember correctly! The staff are really nice here, but limited English if that’s an important factor. The atmosphere and décor are pretty cool — there is a canoe boat that is used as a bar! Worth a visit when you’re feeling like some alternative cuisines in Geneva.
