Grand Duke Pub

My first Unilocal disappointment of 2015 (can’t win’em all!). Maybe it’s because I’m not American… No disrespect to Americans, but I don’t think Europeans, and in particular Brits, would splash out five stars on this establishment. For that our tastes are too different (or I’m too old). Seeing the raving reviews [all by Americans] I took a friend here while on business in Geneva and we both agreed that unless you’re still in Uni or stuck in a village somewhere, it should be a lot better than this. It’s very dark and eerie with dark wood paneling throughout and dark red fabric on all sitting areas. The only thing missing was the fruit machine in the corner (replaced by a beaming cigarette machine in this case). There was however a big projector screen showing American sports, and to give you an idea about how dark this pub is… it seemed to be the only light source in the place. Originally we planned to also stay for dinner, but stalk-​eying some of the food being carried out (it looked very basic) and with the knowledge we would have to eat it in the dark, we abandoned the idea and found another dinner venue after a couple of beers. I most likely won’t bother to go back. There are too many more interesting places in Geneva to visit for that.

Great feel here. Nice and warm pub atmosphere. No live music tonight but good mix of music for the right crowd. Wish I’d come here instead of clubhouse!

I would come back to Geneva for two reasons: swim in the lake, drink at this pub again.
These guys were spectacular. So accommodating and empathetic to. Few weary travelers. Overall one of my favorite pubs in all of Europe. I’ll never forget this place.

Great place for beers, food is decent, and crowd is mostly local. Lots of TVs for football viewing, but the atmosphere remains chill. My go-​to place when I am in Geneva for business.

Aufgestelltes Publikum! Die Crew kennt Wiederkehrende bald schon beim Namen. Treffpunkt von Praktikannten aus der ganzen Welt die in der Genfer Hotellerie arbeiten. Gute internationale Stimmung. Hier fühlen sich Schweizer wie auch ausländische Gäste sehr wohl!
