There are quite a few Thai restaurant and takeaway in the city of Luzern, one of it is RuanThai. It is situated nearby(behind) Manor and a staircase next to another restaurant that leads to the restaurant on the first floor. The restaurant is quite cozy, decorated well and it was packed when I ate there on a Friday afternoon! It’s a small restaurant with open kitchen concept so u can see the chef cooking your dishes. Most of the customers are tourist though. There are only two person serving that day, the chef and a lady(maybe the lady boss) :) both so friendly. I totally feel homemade food incoming… The kitchen offer varieties of Thai dishes. Price around CHF19 – 25 and I chose the vegetarian Pad si-ew(gebratane reisnudeln) or char koay teow from the daily set menu. It comes with a drink of your choice from the fridge! The lady boss is very friendly, she just ask politely, u can choose whatever drink from the fridge so off I go to grab the Oiishi green tea bottle. Yeah — any drink for a good fair price of CHF19. Is a good bargain for local and tourist. Food is fine but I saw a lot of guests ordered chicken rice!!! My another favourite dish! I guess that will be my next order when I step into RuanThai again. Nothing unpleasant, all in all, a good place to stop by for lunch and lovely people with fair price. The WC is also clean and inviting!

We ate at Ruan Thai because it was the first place we stumbled upon that had entrees for less than 50CHF. Most of the rice and noodle dishes here were 19CHF. My beef noodle soup was edible but nothing to write home about. My friends got rice plates with chicken and BBQ pork, and they felt the same as I did about their food. The outdoor patio seating didn’t have a view, but the breeze was nice. Not much service here. Grab your own drinks from the cooler. Pay at the counter when you are done eating.

If you are craving Thai food in Lucerne, this can be go to place. My family stumble on this place while strolling and exploring the street alleys. The food is almost as authentic Thai food. Not so salty but pack with Thai flavor, coconut, curries, ginger and other spices. I ordered Coconut chicken curry and it was so good. Flavor is on point except need a little bit more spice. My wife has a beef larb with basil and it’s good ut less spicy. My son has a chicken stir fry and it was also delicious. You can customize how hot you want your dish, although the spicy version still needs more. I think another stem of Thai chilly would have done it. Also a fresh ginger, instead of dried one would have made a difference. Service could be slow or is it just me an American tourist who wants everything right away. I guess Lucerne lifestyle is to take the time. Overall the family enjoyed the food and had a wonderful meal.

I love this place and come here pretty often. It has authentic food, be it Pad Thai, Chicken Rice, Char Siew(roasted pork), or a host of other dishes, and you can get the lunch menu for CHF20. The owners are very friendly as well. Note that the location on the official website( ) is out of date — it’s actually located in the heart of Altstadt(the old town) on Eisengasse 12, and NOT on Gibraltarstrasse.
