****TERRIBLEEXPERIENCE**** The chef, who I assume is the owner, is very rude or to be honest… an asshole! We had a party of three. One person in our party has dietary restrictions and can’t eat a full meal. When the waitress came to take our order we were not ready so she left as normal. The chef/owner came to the table next and asked what we wanted. The person in our group with dietary restrictions said he would be sharing a meal with my wife. The chef/owner became upset, said no and left with an attitude. Next, when the meal came for my wife she asked the waitress for a fork so she could eat her meal. The chef/owner asked the waitress what we wanted and she said a fork. He aggressively said no to her. I responded to him asking why she couldn’t have a fork. We both engaged in a verbal argument to where he asked me if I wanted to fight with him(I’m assuming he did not mean physically. just verbally). We eventually received a fork and the chef/owner came by and said to me he’s not fighting with me, he is just crazy. Completely inappropriate in any country.

So who said this was good? You mean not so special? Hrmm here’s the truth. Fried chicken(no batter) sprinkled with seasoning and served with warm bread on the side and accompanied by a watered down papa johns garlic butter sauce. It will be salty if you do not dip it in the butter sauce however; this is just a plain jane type of place. Nothing special. I can make better fried chicken than this that does not require a sauce to cover up the mediocre style. For all, I do not bash restaurants for any reason but rate on the quality. From 1 – 5 Food: 1.5−2 Ambiance: 3 Overall: 2.5 sorry try again! FYI: super expensive for fries, bread and 6 wings. Lol

Simple food choices with decisions between chicken wings or legs with homemade garlic sauce. Very tasty and affordable for Lucerne. Owner is a stud!

Crispy and so flavorful! The hot bread and special dipping sauce perfectly complemented the juicy chicken. My family and I were so happy to stumble upon this place.

That chicken is bomb. Great sauce that ties everything together. Can be used on bread, fries, chicken and even the salad. The place is awesome too. They were rocking some great music(disco mix). Nothing better than disco and amazing chicken.

Went here for dinner based on all the rave reviews. We walked in and were seated promptly and ordered chicken wings and chicken legs. He provided bread and the special sauce. The sauce was delicious, however we sat there for maybe 20 – 30 minutes before the waiter realized we didn’t get our food yet and finished all our bread. He then realized that the cook forgot to start preparing our meal and offered us more bread. We finally got our food and the chicken was pretty good and goes well with the sauce but was pretty expensive for what it’s worth. Note: no sharing and no utensils. Cash only

Without a doubt, some of the best atmosphere and food I have had since I have been in Switzerland. Great folk and food, you cant go wrong here — if you like a place that is real without pretense that is. Thats what made this place tops in my book — just great food, great atmosphere, with a great owner, skip the BS and move to its name — Soul. and Chicken.

Thank god for Unilocal! This is a legit hole in the wall and we would’ve never stepped foot in otherwise, so glad we did! The décor and atmosphere is really cozy and you feel like you’re taking on another country. I don’t think this is Swiss food, but still way worth the try! We pretty much had one of everything. I’ve been finding it hard to in take greens while in Switzerland so try to order a side salad any chance I get, I HIGHLY recommend it here. It’s nothing too special but absolutely delicious(not sure how that works out but it does!). The chicken is really good — crispy on the outside, SUPERHOT(so be careful!) and juicy on the inside. I also found it on the saltier side, but I was dipping every bite into their FREAKINGAMAZING soul sauce(garlic butter aka liquid gold). They also have fresh baked sesame bread that comes out warm and toasty, which every bite was also be dunked into the sauce. Not kidding, I’m probably going to be dreaming of this sauce until the day I die. If I had another day in Luzern, I would seriously go back just for the salad, bread, and sauce(clearly). Totally, totally recommend this place!

I’m convinced that the 5-star reviews are from wait staff and friends of the owner. This is not friendly service, and not good food. It’s also absolutely not a good deal for the price. Know that the menu is VERY limited. Chicken thighs, chicken legs, or half a chicken. Fries, bread, salad are offered sides. You are FORBIDDEN from sharing with your friends and unapologetically FORBIDDEN from using utensils. The staff isn’t concerned with whether you like your meal or not(after food delivered, we were completely ignored while waitress and owner resumed their personal social lives) — you are treated as if you should be thanking them for eating their bland overpriced food. When we weren’t shooing away flies and bugs from our meal, we were wondering what the big deal about this place was. I DONOTRECOMMEND.

Way too salty and way too expensive. The place looks cool, great décor and the owner is super friendly. But you’re paying a lot for the cool factor. And that cool lasts only until you find out this is a four-location chain and growing. And then when the waitress adds more food to your order than you asked for, a little less cool. Finally, the last bit of cool dries up when you get the bill, leaving only the over-salted greasy feeling of deep fried trendiness. It takes more than salt and oil to make good food. I’m not sure the five star reviews get that. I don’t know, maybe they overrate«cool» — I have seen an awful lot of hipsters around Luzern lately.

Very very delicious, the soul sauce is unbelievable. Moreover they are not expensive, actually just less than 20CHF. I think it’s the best chicken I have ever had.

After seeing this restaurant with high ratings on Unilocal,I understandably had high expectations for this place. Unfortunately I was woefully disappointed. Not worth it. After being charged two franks a person just to drink tap water, we decided to order two plates of chicken between the three of us, because it appeared that the meals were large. However, apparently everyone at the table has to order something, even though we were already about to pay for a 42 dollar meal. We resorted to ordering a 7.50 basket of fries. We were served bread and their special ‘Soul Sauce’. I must admit that the bread was fresh and crisp and the sauce was quite tasty, though in reality nothing more than heavily salted garlic butter. When our main course came, there was indeed a lot of food on the table. The chickens were decently sized, as was the basket of fries. I began to eat my chicken with the positive reviews of ‘succulent’ chicken in mind and was sorely disappointed. Sure it wasn’t bad chicken. It wasn’t too dry. Had the yummy sauce all over it, but it was far from delectable and delicious, especially if you take away the sauce. Part way through our meal, the waitress came and took my(tiny) cup of sauce to refill, which I realized she charged me 3 franks for when we paid the bill. In summary, we paid nearly 60 franks for some mediocre chicken, some inappropriately glorified garlic butter, and good bread. At least when I left I was full, hence the three stars.

Searched for a place to eat while we were walking around lucerne and found this hole in the wall restaurant. Decors were a bit eclectic but it works well especially with the 70s music. Owner was very nice and welcoming. Chicken was very tender and juicy. It goes well with the special sauce! Love this place and would recommend everyone to try it. We were eating with two kids and owner gave them M&Ms. It was such a nice gesture. Ü

I am glad I found this restuarant on Unilocal!I agree and give all the stars to the great ambiance of the music the décor… Most importantly, We loved the warm bread with the delicious butter garlic sauce, and I couldn’t agree more to the delicious chicken with the crunchy and flavoury seasoning and most importantly how fresh and authentic the chicken was!!! will for sure come back here when I am in Luzern.

I don’t even like chicken that much. It’s boring. But my god… this place might be the best chicken I have ever had. No joke. It was quiet around 6pm on a Wednesday. I entered and was immediately struck by how weird this place was. I mean seriously… The decoration is quite odd. And the music is 70s retro American. Who would have thought this place would produce such good chicken. Service was given by the owner or something similar. Very friendly and very efficient. The menu is equally as efficient as it only had three or four items and all of them were chicken. My order was two pieces of chicken with fries and bread. And also garlic sauce. My god that garlic sauce. I would honestly give my life for more of that garlic sauce. When my chicken and fries came out it was hot and delicious and crispy and fresh and just truly amazing. Even the bread was fantastic. It’s just chicken and potatoes and bread. But oh my gosh. I cannot stop enjoying every bite of it. And in an expensive country like Switzerland, the price was very fair. Soul chicken FTW.

To be honest, i’m extremely confused by the five star reviews across the board here on Unilocal. The food here is not worthy of 5 stars, not even close. I’m going to have to tell you that, to start, I freaking love fried chicken. So imagine my excitement when I scroll through restaurants in Lucerne and found a place that is 4.5 star rated and only serves fried chicken! I was lazying around in bed all the way in Gisikon-Root and as soon as I saw the listing, I jumped out of bed, txted my bf at work to tell him that’s where i’m headin and he can meet me there, or not, i’m eating lunch there anyway, and then beelined straight to the train station. The restaurant is on a small street towards the end of the small and beautiful city center. The restaurant is strangely decorated and plays, you guessed, it, 70s soul music through and through. The owner felt like a sleazy businessmen who run a small business like those you meet everywhere in Rome and wants to rip tourists off. He didn’t turn out to be that terrible when I refused his bottled water, he eventually gave me some tap water towards the end of my meal. Besides himself, an Indian-looking guy in the somewhat open kitchen deep fries all the chicken and fries. For 18FR I got a basket of chicken wings, fries, some bread, and some garlic butter. I asked if I can switch fries to salad, he said no. The chicken had no breading, and no flavour. The garlic butter made everything slightly palatable. I did not finish my wings or my fries. It wasn’t that good. I realized half way through my gnawing that this place might be cash-only, given the two-men set-up and French working hours(opened from 11:30am to 2pm, and then for dinner at like 7pm or something). I was right. I asked him if I can pay in EUR and he said okay, and then looked at me strangely, as though afraid he might offend me, and told me his exchange rate is 1:1. I chuckled a little in my head knowing he probably didn’t know the exchange rate is no longer in favour of the EUR, so I happily said yes and paid with EUR. If this wasn’t a mom-and-pop shop, and the owner wasn’t so nice, I probably would have given this place 2 stars. It certainly is not the best chicken in the world, but maybe the most soulful…

I don’t give out 5 stars easily but this place is quite a pleasant surprising find. The place is somewhat of a hippy-style restaurant, much like those I find at Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco. The friend chicken and sauce were really really good. What’s better was the friendly service from the owner and staff. We came in pretty late(Swiss standard) at around 7pm so most places were either close or getting ready to close up shop. We found this place in one of the back alleys in Lucerne and decided to give it a try. When we walked in, the server told us that they only have chicken wings left and that it was cash only. We were OK with that since there really aren’t too many other restaurant choice that«late» at night. The wings were crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. Amazingly done. The server came back again and again checking how our food was and refilled water often. The owner even came greeted us afterwards. All in all, the food and dining experience is wonderful at Soul Chicken and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Lucerne. I think this was a better option than eating at one of those fancy river-side restaurants. Considering the price, service, and quality of the food, I’d have to rate this restaurant 5 stars. There is also an Indian restaurant down the street from Soul Chicken(Tandoori Indian Restaurant) which serves pretty good food for the money.

There’s only chicken on the menu, but who can complain when it’s done so, so well? When you first come in, you’re usually given a basket of warm bread, as well as their special garlic sauce, which is amazing. For dinner, there’s usually the option of a half chicken or the set of wings; both come with fries. You can also order the dinner-for-2 set, which comes with a salad and enough wings for two people. For lunch, in addition to the regular options, there’s also a chicken sandwich. I haven’t tried it, though, as I’m usually there for dinner. The guy who owns the place is super friendly, as is the rest of the staff. Do take a trip to the bathroom while you’re there, if only to wash your hands(though they do have special moist towelettes for that at the table) — it’s pretty cool!
