Saw the reviews on Unilocal so decided to give it a try. Greeted warmly as we entered the restaurant. We did not have a reservation, however there was no problem with seating although a short while later we understood why a reservation is recomended. Place did fill up with locals which is a good sign. Food was great as was the service. Highly recommend stopping here if you are in the area.

Nice little restaurant in the center of Luzern old town. You should count 10 – 15 minutes from Luzern main train station. There isn’t much space so consider to call to reserve a table. The waitress was friendly. Our plates were quickly served. Unfortunately the menu didn’t showed any mineral choices and the waitress didn’t suggested the wine card. We ordered pasta and it was quite good. Unfortunately, the portion were little so you should consider it if you’re really hungry.

We did no research for fine dining spots in Luzern but since we wanted to eat Italian good we kind of ran into this place. Small restaurant with a good selection of wine. Started off with the green salad which was fresh with the right amount of balsamic on it. I had a simple plate of Spaghetti olio and CB(trophy wife) had the risotto with fungi. Both the dishes were good and pleases the palette. Not a bad stop for not knowing where to go!

Spacious tables on the square, with shade for hot days. Definitely has a local crowd — one group of middle-aged women was heckling our waiter — and gives a much more relaxed experience than the places right on the water. Our insalata mista was good, although the tomatoes weren’t quite ripe; for a light dinner we got the pasta puttanesca(one of my default go-tos), which came out tasty but a bit light on the anchovies. We ate outside, but the inside looks pleasant as well — a mix of well-aged wood paneling, and curios like a nice old typewriter on a windowsill looking into the square. The hotel across the square(decorated with pictures of the old saffron guild) provides some entertainment in the form of Bentleys and BMWs being parked… poorly.

We were looking for a light meal, out of the sun and heat, before our return train to Zurich. Our hosts had eaten in Luzern before but had found the best restaurants too far from the trains for this evening. We wandered some side streets and found this charming café setting up their tables, the menu looked appropriate so we decided to take a chance. It was well over 90 and the staff gently told I’d they would be no pizza tonight which was fine with us. We were thinking of salads and some light pasta, and they certainly had a wide selection. They graciously answered all of our preparation questions and made suggestions for us that ended up being perfect. All of the salads were fresh and ample and dressed perfectly, the Parmesan on the Rucola generous. My husband and I both enjoyed the linguine con vongole which was covered with baby clams in the shell, not a speck of sand in any, sweet and not overcooked. The linguine was al dente with a light sauce of white wine and olive oil, pepper being the predominant seasoning. The spaghetti Puttanesca was enjoyed by the others. I would love to go back, try some other options and certainly a dessert, but that will need to be with more time and better weather. Who knew it could be so hot in Switzerland in June?
