Goodman Restaurant

We are back again for top steak but this time a bit of disappointment. Usually I’m big fan to a restaurant when the food served is consistent throughout visits. We ordered the same 400gm rib eye and favorite truffle chips (must try)… pair with a glass of amarone (all time fav). Unfortunately this time the meat wasn’t taste the same, it doesn’t even look as great as the first time as well. Probably need more TLC when grilling the meat next time…

Nice overall experience, but slightly overprices.
This is Zurich. Let’s not kid ourselves. Nothing here is really cheap and a fancy steakhouse is not going to be the exception. But Goodman’s makes up for this with its lovely interior and dressy atmosphere.
I was here with a party of a dozen other hungry guests and the restaurant was pretty crowded that night. Save for a lost dessert order, our waiter didn’t miss a beat all night long and was always friendly, always happy to help.
Food, well, I guess it’s a plus if you like meat. If you do, you get to pick your cut after it was actually shown to you in raw form. Nice touch. And makes it a bit easier to know what you want to go for. Food is prepared properly, the cardinal sin — which is obviously overcooking the meat — was not spotted. But then again, no one explicitly ASKED to have his steak ruined.
The price tag though, well, it’s not completely off the charts, but it’s definitely not cheap. But then again, the elegant ambiance and the good service doesn’t leave a lot of room for negotiation. Decide if you wanna spend the money and don’t look back. If you’re hoping to get the best bang for the buck, maybe look somewhere else instead of taking the gamble.

Our waiter proposed us a 1.2KG porterhouse. We ordered it pre-​cut and cooked rare. It was delicious then at our surprise our waiter asked us if we wanted the rest to be cooked medium rare after we ate half of it. What a blessing that was.
I’d highly recommend Goodman’s steak house. Service is unique so is their wine list.

This is a great steak house located near bahnhof Selnau. I had been there before many years ago when I first visited Zurich (but wasn’t on Unilocal at the time!).
The atmosphere is dressy but it still has a casual feel to it. I attribute that to the wonderful staff. They were very attentive and friendly.
The food was prepared to perfection. They had a very large selection of Nebraska aged beef but I opted for the Australian filet with béarnaise and a side of creamed spinach with gruyère cheese. It was fantastic!
There are only a couple restaurants in Zurich with great steaks but I have to say that Goodman Restaurant wins with the more casual atmosphere and their staff.

Let me get right to it and address a couple of the other reviews that mentioned this restaurant was over-​priced. I hate to be a stickler but if you’re thinking a restaurant is OVER-​priced you are either saying that the food/​service is not worth the amount of money you have spent or you’re saying that there are cheaper restaurants that serve the same or better quality of meat in Zurich. To both arguments I have to reply that I have never left Goodman’s feeling cheated or that we had payed too much! Also, I do not know of any steak/​meat restaurants in Zurich that would surpass Goodman’s. The meat has always been top-​notch (if also a little burnt last time we were there) and the service is worth the five stars alone (shout out to Anja! You were great!)
To conclude, Goodman’s has been a staple for us ever since they opened. It’s our go-​to choice for when we are feeling fancy yet casual and are in the mood for a good piece of meat.

One of the best burgers and steaks in Europe!
It’s pricey, but for an American away from home, worth every chf to feel relaxed and back in a NY/​Chicago-​style steakhouse. The price is comparable to that in a steakhouse in the US, as opposed to any other restaurant in Zürich, which would be four times the US price. The service has recently been refreshed, and it is now personal and warm, attentive without hovering. My wife and I love it every time we go!

Poor food and a place to show off for people who don’t know better. Foie gras slimy and still had blood vessels in it. Grill not hot enough so steak not cooked correctly. Mushy overlooked broccoli which I sent back. Wrong sauce not what I ordered. Warm wine glasses straight from the dishwasher. Over priced and pretentious for bankers and yee ha’s who want to smoke cigars and pretend they are something. Not recommended. Go to luminere instead.

Die Menu Karte änderte seit meinem letzten Besuch. Das Sortiment ist kleiner geworden. Bis der Hauptgang endlich ankam, vergingen läppische 60 Minuten. Es ist noch dringend zu erwähnen, dass die Fois Gras, die ich zum Hauptgang bestellte, geschlagene 10 Minuten später serviert wurde. Trotz, dass die Kellnerin sich die Sitzordnung der Gäste notierte, gab es nach Erhalt der Speisen die grosse Rochade. Mit der Qualität der Speisen war ich recht zufrieden.

Uns wurden nach all den Unannehmlichkeiten je einen Espresso offeriert. Wir bezahlten für einen Salat, 2 Hamburger, ein Beef Steak Tatar und 3x Fois Gras inkl. Getränke aber ohne Wein CHF 170.00!
Der Burger für CHF 30.00 mit viel Nichts ist überrissen! Wenn das Preis– /​Leistungsverhältnis stimmt, bin ich sehr gern bereit den Preis zu bezahlen.
Bis ich wieder einmal da hingehen werde, sollte sich das neue Business Modell ändern.

A bit pricey for what it is really.
Plus Iv had better steaks and burgers in Zurich (And definitely cheaper than 60 francs for a main course). However Im giving this place 4 stars for their good service and some damn good appetizers.

Diese Woche war ich endlich wiedermal im Goodman. Wir hatten vor, wie sonst auch immer, den Business-​Lunch mit dem Burger zu nehmen. Doch das gibt’s so nicht mehr. Leider.
Sie haben die Karte nämlich umgestellt. Der Business-​Lunch kostet nun CHF 39.- und es hat nicht mehr gleich gute Köstlichkeiten drauf, wie eben der Burger, den kann man nur noch separat bestellen, und kostet alleine 30.-
Wir hatten Nudeln mit einer Tomaten-​Oliven-​Sauce, welche ganz gut geschmeckt haben. Aber ins Goodman komme ich nunmal nicht um Nudel zu essen, ich hätte eigentlich trotzdem den Burger nehmen sollen. Naja. Das Rindscarpaccio zur Vorspeise schmeckt immer noch hervorragend, das war es wert.
Der Service ist aber immer noch sehr sehr gut, hier ist Kunde König. Wobei ein Kellner leider sehr streng gerochen hat, und das geht nun mal gar nicht. Alles in allem gebe ich dem Goodman heute drei Sterne — denn die Preise sind schon hoch.

Nach langer Zeit wollte ich heute mal wieder im Goodmanns essen gehen. Ich habe mich schon riesig auf dem Burger gefreut den es im Business-​Lunch gibt.
Leider musste ich feststellen, das sie nun eine neue Karte haben.
Dennoch hat mir das Rindscarpaccio (das zum Glück noch auf der Karte ist ;-)) sehr gut geschmeckt.
Von der Bedienung war ich etwas entäuscht, meiner Meinung nach, hat der Service etwas nachgelassen, gemäss meiner Begleitung hat der Kellner auch etwas streng gerochen… dies konnte ich selbst nicht wahrnehmen, Schnupfen sei Dank;)))
Aber im Service ein echtes No-​go!

Eine nette Lunch Lokation. Beim Business-​Lunch stimmt Preis/​Leistung — 36 CHF. Besonders waren in diesem Sommer die Spare-​Rip specials am Montag. Best Rips ever. Am Abend ein bisschen overpriced.

waren schon oefters dort geschaeftlich zum essen. leider haben wir es bis dato nie geschafft das komplette fleischsortiment auszuwaehlen da bereits immer nach 19.00 uhr die groessten und besten stuecke ausverkauft sind. kann man bei den preisen eigentlich nicht verstehen da wir immer dort mit 3 personen nie unter 500 euro (umgerechnet) rausgehen. service ist ok koennte sich aber noch mehr am gast orientieren und oefters nachfragen ob was fehlt. wartezeiten sind jedesmal nach meinem geschmack einen tick zu lang. insgesamt erwartet man bei den preisen mehr service.; mehr auswahl und kuerzere wartezeiten. absolut ausbaufaehig.

Von «Goodman» hört man so einiges. Vorwiegend aber positive Dinge. Wer ins «Goodman» geht, bekommt ein grosses Stück Fleisch von bester Qualität in typischer Steakhouse-​Art zubereitet. So wie es eben halt in einem Steakhouse sein muss. Viel Gemüse, wie es oftmals bemängelt wird, ist hier einfach fehl am Platz.
An den Preisen sollte man aber noch ein wenig herumschrauben. Für ein Tenderloin –Steak ganze 60 Stutz hinblättern, schlussendlich alles in allem pro Person 100 Franken — Das ist wirklich etwas zu viel. Auch für Zürich, tut mir Leid.
Die kompetenze Bedienung ist obendrauf noch sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Das Ambiente ist sehr angenehm, die Einrichtung eine elegante Kombination mit Holz und Leder.

Im Restaurant «Goodman» dreht sich alles um Fleisch. Ich bin zwar nicht unbedingt die Fleischliebhaberin, aber als ich gehört habe, dass ein Steakhouse im New Yorker Stil eröffnet wurde, musste ich einen Blick rein werfen. Wahrhaft erinnert das Lokal ein holziges und lederiges Steakhouse irgendwo in New York; braune Lederstühle und holzgetäfelte Wände dekoriert mit geschmackvollen Fotografien. Edel und modern zugleich.
Die Fleischstücke sind gross, viel zu gross für mich, aber für Fleischfanatiker sicherlich ein kulinarischer Traum. Es hat alles; T-​Bone, Rib Eye, New York Strip usw. Ich bestellte mir ein Lachsfilet, da es mir dann doch zu fleischig wurde. Vegetarier finden wahrscheinlich in den Vorspeisen und Desserts etwas. Als süsse Krönung am Schluss kann ich den New Yorker Cheesecake empfehlen.
Die Preise sind fleischig hoch, aber das isch ja nichts neues. In der Schweiz zahlt man halt für ein gutes Stück Fleisch ein gutes Stück Geld.

Bei Goodman dreht sich alles um Steaks, beste Qualität, guten Geschmack und sorgfältige Auswahl. Wer Steaks mag, wird das Goodman lieben. Wer hier zu Abend essen möchte, sollte auf jeden Fall reservieren — ohne Reservierung wird es sehr schwer einen Platz zu bekommen. Hat man jedoch endlich einen Tisch darf man es sich auf den bequemen Lederstühlen gut gehen lassen. Das gesamte Interieur ist ganz klassich gehalten: dunkelbraunes Holz an den Wänden, Holzdielenboden und schwarz-​weiss Fotografien. Alles spielt sich in einem großen Raum ab, was den Geräuschpegel manchmal eztwas ansteigen lässt. Es besteht jedoch auch die Möglichkeit draussen Platz zu nehmen. Nun zum Essen: egal ob T-​Bone, Rib Eye, New York Strip oder Porterhouse (Kobe Rind gibt es leider nicht), das Fleisch ist immer Ersklassig und oberlecker! Unbedingt vorher eine «Fleischbeschauung» machen. Eure persönliche Bedienung bringt dann ein grosses Tablett mit den verscheidenen Steakarten/​Stücken und erklärt genau, um welchen Teil des Rindes es sich handelt und wie lange es auf dem Grill liegen muss um seinen vollen Geschmack zu entfalten (die Garzeiten richten sich danach, wieviel Muskeln an einem Stück sind und wieviel Fettgehalt das Stück besitzt). Das Fleisch wird auf einem speziellen «Josper-​Holzkohlegrill» zubereitet, der eigens aus Spanien importiert wurde. Eine Mischung aus drei verschiedenen Grillkohlesorten sorgt für eine optimale Grilltemperatur. So bleiben der Geschmack und der Saft im Fleisch, ohne es auszutrocknen. Überlegt euch in jedem Fall, wieviel Fleisch Ihr verkraften könnt, es macht extrem satt. Als Beilage (kostet extra) empfehle ich die Bohnen oder den Spinat mit Cheddar. Obwohl das Essen natürlich vergleichsweise teuer ist, emphele ich dennoch unbedingt ein Abendessen im Goodman Restaurant.

goodman’s is over-​priced, but then there is no other new york-​style steak house in zurich, so what would you expect? service is good, but not always consistent. excellent caesar salad. go for a special occasion and hope for the best. try not to think about too much about the bill.

Steakhouse NY-​Style. Slightly overpriced (50 – 70 CHF per steak, T-​Bone for 130 CHF upwards! Somebody from the US will have their eyes pop out…) but extremely high quality food. Delicious side dishes (mashed potatoes with gorgonzola and truffle oil!) and the quality of the beef is really outstanding for European standards. Good and friendly service. Count about 100 CHF per person for a whole meal.
