This café is located in a hidden backyard with a view of a beautiful fountain. Just sitting there, watching the water jump and listening to its bubbly sounds makes me happy everytime. In summer there are always colourful flowers planted and the pocket size park is well kept. Hard to imagine you are actually sitting next to Bahnhofstrasse. The cappuccino I recently had was OK. It didn’t make me crave for more but neither did it make me cringe. But last time I didn’t go there for the relaxing atmosphere or because of the cappuccino anyways. I was on a mission. I went there because of a baguette. It is actually called THE baguette of the hour. The thing of the bready things. It’s a baguette with a title. THE baguette by Seri Wada. A finance guy who gave up his career to bring real handmade Parisian baguette to the people of Zurich. It has this silky smooth tartness I remembered from childhood vacations in France that is so typical for French baguette. Unfortunately I ate the baguette a bit late. I should have tried it right away in the morning. So I can’t judge the texture which is so, so, so important when it comes to baguette. But thats ok. I’ll go again to buy another one because I’m always happy to go back to this courtyard.

Milchbar is one of a handful of cafés in Zurich that you’ll consistently get decent espresso based coffee. Additionally, they serve pretty tasty breakfast — I recommend getting one of their delicious basic sets with soft boiled eggs, croissants, yogurt, etc. I’ve gotten their daily pasta once, which was so-so. If you go, I suggest sticking to coffee and the breakfast menu.

The Milchbar is a concept by Michel Péclard who is the creator of many new places in Zurich. This review is about the Milchbar at the Kappelergasse near Paradeplatz and NOT about the sister restaurant in the Bellevue area. Here, the team is great: The chef de service is very friendly, organizes a free table even if it is not easy and always makes you feel a wanted guest. The atmosphere in the restaurant is consequently very nice, it is a feel good place. I had pasta which was ok but highly priced. Personally, I like to small coffee shop in the Milchbar the most! Nina Rimpl(Swiss Barista Champion 2014) and friends — current champion and champions to become — are running the Milchbar coffee at perfection. Nina teams with the roaster Black&Blaze in Zurich to get a perfect espresso. Try yourself!

The set up is good at this Milchbar vs. the Bellvue Milchbar. Has it’s own little outdoor square with a water fountain so it gives a cool relaxing ambiance. There’s table service or you can order at the till and drink at the bar tables/standing. Americano is 4.30fr, which seems to be the average price for one. Good nutty flavor, not bitter. Iced Coffee is about 6.40fr. Bike friendly as I parked mine on a pole out at the front entrance. Did not have wifi.
