Restaurant Luo

This restaurant has moved. It is currently located at Oberdorfstrasse 36, Dietikon 8953. Food is still excellent and service is good!

Da mir wirklich keine andere Wahl blieb, landete ich Ende Dezember 2013 erneut im Restaurant Luo, und betrachtete diese Angelegenheit zumindest als Gelegenheit, dem Wirt nochmals eine Chance zu geben, meine — vormals durchwegs schlechte Wertung — vielleicht verbessern zu können.
Weit gefehlt. Sogar noch viel weiter, als beim letzten, ebenfallsbereits durch’s Band enttäuschenden Anlauf.
Hier stimmt nun wirklich gar NICHTS. Um dieses Restaurant gehört ein breiträumiges Halteverbot. So leid es mir tut.
Das Essen (auf das wir satte 1 ½ Stunden warten mussten!), konnte nicht einmal annähernd in der Nähe von «gut» angesiedelt werden, die Gäste mussten, während dieses Abends, ganze 5x selbst ans Buffet gehen, um etwas zu Trinken ergattern zu dürfen, da sich 15 – 20 Min. keine Bedienung an den Tisch locken liess. Hatte sich dennoch eine Service-​Mitarbeiterin an unseren Tisch verirrt, zeigte sie sich sichtlich genervt, gestresst und ausserordentlich unfreundlich. Die Abrechnung stimmte nicht, der Kaffee wurde gnadenlos verschwappt-​verschüttet serviert. Nein. Hier stimmt sogar noch weniger, als zuvor.
Break. Wie vereinbart es ein angesehenes Hotel, sich in solch miserables Restaurant anzugliedern? Das wirft nur Schlechtes auf den Namen des Hotel-​Betriebes zurück.
Nie, nicht einmal unter Druck, werde ich dieses Restaurant jemals wieder besuchen.

In my eternal quest for authentic ethnic cuisine in Zürich, I am often left feeling hopeless, and this time is no exception. I know authentic Chinese food, not from China, but from the plethora of right-​off-​the-​boat eateries found in the reclusive Chinatowns of the world. San Francisco is a good example where gems like House of Nanking have lines for yards waiting to get in. It’s obvious when you eat authentic Chinese food, because it resembles nothing you generally find in the ubiquitous westernized Chinese establishments in Zürich. In some of these places, the menu is not even translated from Chinese. That’s also a good sign!
And while Luo is not Suan Long, it leaves something to be desired. For one, it is freaking expensive! Unless it’s prepared by Chen Kinichi, it should never be this expensive. My wife’s house special shrimp and scallops with snow peas and mushrooms came served in a bland corn-​starchy sauce in which the only recognizable essence was fresh ginger — hardly worthy of the title of house special (about CHF 45). My crispy pork short ribs were more bone than meat. The sauce was good — dark, tangy from rice vinegar and sweet, but slightly too thick. This wasn’t so bad but it came with nothing but meat for about CHF 36.
For appetizers, we ordered salad. They were out of salad. So we ordered egg rolls. Nothing special at all! The won ton soup, on the other hand, was killer! A perfect rich broth strongly steeped with sesame oil and half the bowl of fresh won tons with al dente dough and filled with moist beef.
Only one Chinese beer available (Tsing Tao, of course) and no Chinese wine.
A nice touch was the small plate with 4 sauces which included a tangy mustard sauce, chilis, soy sauce and a sweet marmalade.
Service was very attentive and friendly.
The hunt continues.

Alles das Restaurant finde ich echt super.
Ambiente:
Ist im chinesischem Style, und es ist sehr angenehm. Also wenn ich dort hinein gehe und Platzt nehme, bin ich wie in einer andern Welt. Es entspannt mich richtig und es ist so gemütlich. Mann hört Klänge im Hintergrund, die für mich gar nicht störend sind, also eher zum abschalten von der Aussenwelt.
Ich geniesse es jedes mal und gehe immer wider.
Von Vorteil ist es wenn man zu zweit oder höchstens zu viert ist, und es sehr easy nimmt. (finde ich)

Auch das Essen passt!
Sehr fein wenn man die chinesisch /​asiatische Küche gern hat.
Bedienung:
Die ist auch sehr vornehm, freundlich und immer sofort zur Stelle wenn man einen Wunsch hat.
