If I suddenly get a hankering for Japanese food on my way home, I would make a quick pit stop here. It is fuss free and relatively quiet at 5.30pm, making it a good place for a decent fast meal. The only drawback is that some of the special or promo items are not available at that timing as they will only serve that after 6pm. Service is ok, they do come around to refill your tea constantly, though at times you still have to flag the servers. Food ranges from average to pretty good, it all depends on what you order. I do like the roasted duck sushi which is something unusual. It reminds me of the smoked duck from cold storage rotisserie. The sashimi is a bit hit and miss but generally do not expect very fresh fish slices. I would go for the cooked food or the safer usual options of raw salmon and scallops. Other types of fish seemed to be a bit off(not spoiled, just tasted different). Unilocal Feb 2014 Challenge: 19⁄28

I dined here twice and stroll pass the restaurant a many times while at PS. It definitely is THEMOST popular restaurant, judging by the queue. It seems like no matter what time it was, there was ALWAYS queue… The first time, I waited almost 1.5 hours just to get a table. By then, I was already slightly biased against the food. I mean it is ok but NOT that fantastic to be worth the wait. I stand by my opinion. However, I after my second dining experience I realized that they do serve pretty decent & unique sushi, not the typical boring stuff you get at Sake. So it’s definitely worth a try. Not the queue though. The second time I dined here was after a movie(approximately 9.50pm on a weeknight). I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was no queue and decided to accept it as a sign that I need to give this place a another go. The food 1. salmon with soy sauce — The cheapest thing on the menu, at 40 cents. They mangaged to invent a way to sell salmon skin which I am guessing is probably thrown away most of the time since our sashimi comes«naked». The whole sushi is basically just salmon skin with very little salmon meat(if any) on it. But it still taste pretty ok. I just wish they would be more honest and label this sushi«salmon skin» instead of «salmon» which coupled with a vague picture might give people the wrong impression. 2. salmon lobster with salad roll — Strong wasabi inside this one. 3. roasted duck — Ok, but I felt it tasted a bit to rare for my liking. Also, smoked duck is probably not the strongest suit of a sushi restaurant. When I think duck, my brain summons an imaginary of a french flag… or a conjures up a peking duck. 4. smoked salmon with black pepper — Love. Simple yet delicious & fresh. 5. whole sea eel — Love. My favorite dish! This eel is smoother than the typical brown unagi you get. It is yellow, lean and silky soft. The sauce was perfect as well. It was the perfect compliment to my eel. My only feedback is that I hope that they would serve more rice along with it. The length of the eel was at at least 5−7X longer(in total 20 cm?) than my little rice cube(3cm). 6. roasted squid leg — Love. They lightly barbecued this squid yet perserving its crunchy raw texture. It was topped off with a beautifully flavored mayo that added a good kick to this sushi :) This is coming from a non-mayo fan. 7. spicy salmon sakura shrimp inari with ebiko — I didn’t personally eat this but my friend liked it so much that he ordered a second round and declared it his favorite dish. The service — This is one of those no frills kind of places. — The service is not as fast as one would imagine. They serve the sushi one by one so be sure to put in a few orders at any one time otherwise you might in for a longer than expected wait. Overall: Will return if/when there is no queue.
