What a place! Got to this place thanks to Unilocal. It was a busy afternoon and the place was packed. We were seated fast and ordered fried eggplant and a bottle of wine for starters. Delicious! The ambiance, the service and the food was great. For entrée I ordered the cochinillo(roasted piglet) and it was extraordinary. Loved it! Prices were reasonable, menu had nice variety… would love to go back when visiting. Excelente sitio.

Came here at 10pm on a Saturday without a reservation and they were very accommodating, only had to wait 5 minutes at the bar while the gotta table ready. Good attentive service throughout the meal, food was high quality and although they were very busy it came out quickly. Had the chicken in filo pastry, yum.

This place is good for brunch they have a variety of options to choose from. I ordered the quesadilla it was okay i found the different cheeses used made it very heavy. Other than that the desserts and fresh juices was delicious.

The tuna tataki was very good. Oxtail burger asked for it with no mayo but came with it anyway and the bottom bun was rock hard. The actual meat was tasty so are it naked with the mayo scraped off. It ended up being $ 50 with all included so pricey for what you get. Okay place a bonus is its open on Sunday.

Came here as the first stop in Madrid and right away was greeted with a smile and quickly sat down. Overall for the night the servers were all very quick and extremely friendly and helpful. Their service alone guarantees I return to their restaurant as soon as possible. The food did not stay behind! I ordered the linguine with shrimp which was absolutely delicious! My groups of friends also all loved their dishes as well. Their mojitos and juices were also great as well. The ambiance is dim lighting but lively with music playing and conversations all around you. Definitely recommend stopping by here for a bite.

Definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Madrid. The food was excellent. I ordered the ox tail burger which superbly exceeded my expectations. The meat was so flavorful! It also came with perfectly crispy golden fries. My friend ordered the tuna tataki which I highly recommend. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was attentive and accommodated us really well. Also, the overall vibe of this place was modern/chic and hip. I would totally come back if I have the chance.

Wen here for brunch. Food was decently good and the place had a cool vibe. Service was really really slow. The number of servers out numbered the number of guests yet they still barely checked up on us. Their breakfast isn’t really american style breakfast so if you are looking for egg dishes, pancakes or waffles this isn’t really your best bet.

Well I had high hopes as this location offered early reservation times, accommodated English speaking, was in a hip shopping and dining area, and looked interesting from first appearance. In fact all that’s true and even inside it is somewhat compelling but the food just doesn’t deliver and the price point isn’t commensurate by any means. Much better and more creative cuisine is elsewhere nearby so if that’s critical for you then carry on. If you’re seeking a decent meal with cocktails and a movie rental to go this is the place for you — yes, for some odd reason they have a movie rental section! Only other perk here is the«to go» food options. Unfortunately they’re far from accompanying, thus the reduced rating. More than a half dozen requests that were simple weren’t even considered and either poor management is the cause or limited kitchen skills. Either way, not good for me.

I enjoyed Diurno very much, both because it is a welcome break from the typical Spanish fare(which can get old, after a while) and it is vegetarian-friendly without alienating carnivores. The décor is stylish & hip – they also run a small take-out business(during the day) and video rental operation, out of the space – though the service was a little hit-or-miss – the male server was friendly and attentive, while the female server was aloof and disinterested. The food – I had the Hamburguesa de la Feliz Vaca(vegetariana ¡claro!) w/feta & fries & we shared an orange sorbet for dessert – was delicious, though the sorbet was more like a granizado than a traditional sorbet(still…an excellent palate-cleanser). I’d definitely have returned for a stab at brunch, had we not wanted to explore and try different places.

Definitely didn’t reach my expectations from the good reviews. I liked the setup of the restaurant and the big plants they had throughout the floor. Service and the food left much to be desired though. We understood restaurant service in Spain is different from service in the states, but the server was just not very good. I asked for the eggs benedict with salmon. even pointed at the menu item in case he didn’t understand. My boyfriend asked about a burger that had tuna in its description, and he rambled off in rapid Spanish. We were hoping someone on the floor spoke a bit of English because there was an English menu. but the server didn’t attempt to find an English-speaker, nor try to put things simply for us. I guess that’s more of our own problem. but just to note, we do have a basic understanding of Spanish and the server just wasn’t very helpful. So we waited for our salmon&eggs benedict and the tuna burger(?), and what comes out is eggs benedict with ham and what looked like a veggie burger. What? We called the manager over and he took my eggs back and brought out the correct dish. We ended up sticking with the burger because it was too much hassle to get anyone’s attention. No one seemed to want to help or look in our direction. The burger itself wasn’t bad though which was a bit of a relief. The eggs benedict with salmon was just salty. Not much of other flavors, and it was a bit hard to eat because of it. The only things I liked were the side of fries and the carrot cake. That was some moist and flavorful carrot cake. it was huge too! But that’s not enough to have me going back.

We tried their brunch last Sunday(served until 2pm on weekends); which is 14.95 including a main course to choose out of a list of 4, a cocktail or juice, a coffee and dessert. Not a bad deal! This was the first time that I risked it to try eggs benedict after coming back from Ireland, and it was a great success. The eggs were perfectly soft(well one of them was not very liquidy but the taste was great) and the sauce was nice and vinegary, just the way I like it! They added some sort of creamy sauce at the bottom just under the muffin(which was not an english muffin but some sort of tasty spanish soft bread) that matched the dish just perfect. We will definitely come back for brunch!

Phenomenal place to go for brunch on a lazy Saturday or Sunday. 15 euros for a complete brunch, including coffee, an incredible juice(go mango orange banana), an entre, and a desert. We had the eggs benedict with bacon(actual American bacon… so good) as well as the hamburger. Delicious, filling, great value, great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Not so much was open on the 1st of January when we were wandering around the gay neighborhood of Madrid. Diurno was open though so we entered for a light tapas lunch. The tapas were a little pricy but not bad. Our favorite was definitely the grilled octopus which we had to order another of since it was so yummy. Coming up in second place were the ham croquettes which we also got more of. The spinach salad was good but nothing so special; we were in the mood for something healthy. The guacamole was okay but the avocado wasn’t ripe so it could have been better. The atmosphere in Diurno is nice and also includes a corner selling books/DVDs. It was a good spot for lunch but probably not worth it to go out of your way to get here.

It is nothing really special, to be honest, but yet the place is charming, with big windows, healthy and filling salads, variety of fresh juices and of course, like plenty of other cafes in Chueca every night they offer cocktails alongside some of the most classic tapas.

I typically write reviews of places I find either profoundly disappointing or exceedingly superb. Diurno certainly fits into the latter category: it’s by far the best café in Chueca, and perhaps all of Madrid(though it’s got a totally different vibe, I’m also a big fan of Café Comercial). When you enter you quickly realize how special Diurno is: its corner location and big windows(with beautiful palm plants) create an open, clean, and inviting atmosphere. You can peruse the vast array of pre-made salads and sandwiches on display, or investigate the film rental options as you wait to order your coffee/pay. Perhaps the best part of Diurno is sitting down in the large, open dining/sitting area and taking in the sights and sounds. Relaxing, hip music plays while attractive Chueca men enjoy a morning coffee or a newspaper on a Sunday afternoon. I’d be hard-pressed to recommend Diurno too much – it’s *awesome*, and a must if you’ve never been before :)

I’ve visited Diurno several times for business meetings. It’s a great open space with lots of tables and even dog friendly! You can also rent films here. I’ve never checked out the entire collection but seems to be an eclectic mixture. They have the standard coffee and basic pastry menu. I’ve had the hot chocolate and also the chai tea. Both were normal, nothing groundbreaking. They also have a selection of pre made food from yogurts, soups and salads to pasta, fruit salad and fresh juices. One huge downside is that they don’t have free wifi and it’s a bit of a pain to sign up for the service that they use. That aside I enjoy the staff, some English speaking conveniently, and the ambiance.

Stepping foot inside Diurno means being teleported to my «happy place.» As you walk in, you‘re greeted by soft music that bounces off of the high ceilings with exposed air vents, steel beam pillar supports and worn wood floors. It gives off the vibe of a trendy loft in a big metropolitan city like New York, which can serve as a welcomed break from the toothpick and napkin strewn floors of local Madrid bars«de toda la vida.» As of yet, I have found no other place like it in Madrid. It’s something reminiscent of a cross between a shabby video rental store and a Starbuck’s. They offer a long menu of beverages(both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and warm snacks along with shelves stocked daily with prepackaged foods and a few aisles of rentable DVDs and games to peruse. I can’t say that I’ve ever rented any DVDs or games during one of my visits, but what’s not to love about being able to rent one while picking up some grub or sipping on a cold beer? Among some of my favorites snacks are the warm sandwiches(my most ordered being the cubano and mexicano bocadillos), chocolate chip cookies, hummus, fresh– squeezed frozen orange juice and mojitos. I have enjoyed everything that I have ever ordered or picked up there, with the exception of the guacamole & chips and the hierbabuena(peppermint) lemonade. The prices vary with each item, but are overall pretty reasonable. Whether you want to grab a quick drink with friends, silently read a book with a café con leche or study in one of its corners, rest assured that your wish will be granted. Another plus of this restaurant is its location. Tucked in among the streets of Chueca, the gay-friendly neighborhood just a few steps north of the city center, are countless boutiques, shops, bars and other restaurants to keep you occupied for hours.

Located in Chueca– a gay-happy area of Madrid; The Chelsea of Madrid, if you will. *snap*snap* The area is fabulous. The people are fabulous. The shopping around here(I regret not getting these 60 Euro shoes I fell in love with) is fabulous. Well, you get it– FABULOUS! And Diurno is no different. The host, this fabulous man, approached me and my friends and explained to us that the owner visited NYC often and tried to replicate the NYC vibe with this place. Oh great, just what I need– being a New Yorker eating at a «NYC» place while in Madrid. LAME. But I loved it. I don’t think it was very NYC at all– it’s a DVD/Game rental and a restaurant for goodness sake! But it served good food, though you have to order it in an odd way. You grab prepackaged items(they pack in-house) and they heat it up for you, deliver it to your table along with any drinks you order. They serve alcoholic beverages. Needless to say, my friends and I ordered some. I order two caipirinhas. They were AWESOME! I have yet to find better— maybe in Brazil? Definitely not here in NYC though. EVEN at Brazilian restaurants. And I think they use raw sugar– it was brown and coarse AND quite delicioso! So was the food. I had a pesto pasta and I thoroughly enjoyed it. After this and two caipirinhas I was buzzed and ready to enjoy the FABULOUSNESS that is Chueca!
