I enjoy Mexican food in many different forms — cheap food truck tacos, carb-loaded Cali burritos, trashy Tex-Mex — but when you find really authentic Mexican it stands out above all of those. And this little restaurant really does feel authentic! We went for dinner on a friend’s recommendation. It was hot in Madrid, very hot, and as I walked in I needed a cold beer badly. To my delight, the bartender planted a frosty Negro Modelo right in front of me. This is not a beer I’ve found frequently here. He also had regular Modelo and a couple of other import lagers back there, plus a full bar selection. For imports, the prices were reasonable(3 Euros). From the outside, this place looks like a little taco stand, but it goes a long way back and is nice and cool at the far end. We grabbed a table and began to inspect the menu. To my(non-Mexican, I will admit) eyes, there seemed to be a lot of pretty authentic dishes on there. We ended up having some really rich mole, a nopales salad, plus some soft chicken tacos, guacamole and the usual types of sides. The food is served more in a restaurant-style — you order a plate of four tacos rather than one-by-one. All were great, and unlike a lot of other Mexican joints in Madrid, the hot sauce was hot. Not insanely, but you could genuinely detect chili in there. All of this was washed down by some tasty micheladas. The service was friendly, but unfortunately rather slow, which stops me from giving a higher rating. And the bill was around 23 Euros a head including drinks, which I was happy to pay for the quality of food. All in all, if you need Mexican, I definitely recommend this place.
