Barato, muy barato, pero siempre te ponen lo mismo en las raciones y no son de mucha calidad tampoco.
Si buscas algo económico y que te llene hasta no poder más por la zona centro-​Gran Vía de Madrid, este es tu sitio, sin ninguna duda. Si no, mejor buscar otro bar.

No siempre ponen tapas, a algunos nos preguntan si queremos o no, mientras a otros directamente la ponen, así que una y no más,

Order a drink and get tapas! Great concept. The drinks are HUGE. The food is all fried and salty and room temperature. And you have to stand the whole time but it’s really fun and the waiters are hilarious. Met fun people there, overall a good time

Stopped in two weeks ago with my aunt because we heard interesting things about this restaurant. It definitely lived up to the hype! We were greeted by throngs of people that we could barely get through. It is very overwhelming to figure out the system, especially if you have never been there before! We met a nice man who explained you go to the counter and say «two cañas» and with those two beers you get a plate full of fried goodness! Bonus: it only costs 5 €! We chowed down on croquettes, potatoes with some type of bravas sauce, and some garlic bread. It was a great starter and we left with bellies full of fried deliciousness. It definitely isn’t a sit down restaurant or very nice but it’s a great experience to see how it works! It’s also a great place to drink for pretty cheap! Stop in and check it out – don’t expect anything fancy, but expect tasty fried food!

Madre mía, aquí salí gordo de las raciones que te ponen, te plantas 5 amigos pides 5 cervezas y te ponen de 5 platos de comida como tapa, de lo que sea, sales bastante lleno. Súper rico y súper barato.

Hola ¿Qué tal??? Me pones 3 jarras de cerveza y de repente… ¡pero esto que es! tres platos de tapas mezcladas que te entregan con tus jarras…
Hay muchas cosas a las que no estamos acostumbrados los maños y entre ellas, una que nos llama especialmente la atención es el hábito de acompañar las consumiciones con una tapa de «free» en otras ciudades y que nos hacen plantearnos ¿por qué en otros lugares sale rentable y en Zaragoza no… misterios insondables que quedan a la altura de la existencia del Yetti, el Triángulo de las Bermudas o el Experimento Filadelfia.
Pero es que lo de este lugar es una brutalidad. Las tapas, obviamente no son las de mejor calidad ni aptas para todos los estómagos, pero esas montañas que se desparraman de los platos que te entregan… embutidos, arroz (llamarlo paella me parece un poco mal), croquetas, tortilla… y todo por las jarras de birra que te cobran a 2,5 pavos…
El lugar eso si, se las trae… lleno hasta la bandera, no es ni cómodo, ni bonito, ni siquiera es excesivamente higiénico, pero es lo que tiene cobrar tan barato.
¿Qué si volveré? Pues seguramente, pero como fin de fiesta, cuando ya lleve unas cuantas cervezas más en el cuerpo que me impidan ver como te calzan las tapas en el plato a puñao’desnudo desde la barra.

Two beers and a whole plate of food for 5 €? Yes! My stomach is very satisfied. The potatoes were okay, the sauce made it better! The meats are also delicious as well. Overall, great place to go for lunch or dinner. I would definitely go here before a night out for cheap food & drinks! We went for lunch, which was not crowded, but the place is huge so I can’t imagine what it is like during dinner time. Ambience is laid back & relaxing.

This place was recommended by a friend and it wasn’t anything special. The place was so dirty, napkins, chicken bones and bread laying everywhere. Drinks are huge but not very good. My three friends and I didn’t finish our drinks they were that bad. You also get 3 big plates of food when you order drinks but it wasn’t appetizing and I couldn’t manage to eat it by the sight of the cleanliness of the place. I would never go back.

Muy para de vez en cuando. Demasiada gente, pésima calidad la comida, la salsa esa naranja que le echan a todo es odiosa. Y el camarero moreno bajito y delgado es maleducado a mas no poder, todas las veces que he ido el trato ha sido malo. A lo mejor compensa pagar un poquito mas y comer mejor calidad, en un sitio mas tranquilo y con un servicio decente.

Luego de unos cuantos años viviendo en Barcelona me he acostumbrado a considerar un milagro que te pongan unas aceitunas o unos cacahuetes con la bebida… así que ir a un lugar donde te ponen un platazo como tapa para acompañar la birra fue algo mágico e increíble! Ya superado el shock inicial y la sorpresa, pues es un bar de esos a los que vas más por la experiencia que por lo que puedas comer o beber, de esos que no puedes dejar de probar al menos una vez pero ya luego te lo piensas para volver.
Eso sí, de las cosas que han puesto habían unas croquetas realmente sabrosas y una salsa de salmorejo que ponían sobre las bravas bastante interesante. El Tigre del Norte es cutre, casposo y oscuro, pero a mí me gusta dejar a un lado tanto local moderno cool y venir a sitios como este, que recordarás seguro y que te darán historias para contar luego.

Le principe: on prend une pinte de bière ou de Sangria et les serveurs nous apportent des énormes assiettes de tapas. Vous n’aurez plus faim en repartant.
Très bonne ambiance, les serveurs sont très sympatiques.
On né va pas là-​bas pour faire un repas gastronomique, mais pour beaucoup manger, boire et passer un bon repas avec des amis. N’oubliez pas de parler en espagnol, car se sont les serveurs qui choisissent vos tapas ;)

NO! Definitely overrated. There are tons of better places in and about Madrid that serve cheap drinks and cheap tapas.
Service was brash and a bit rude (sorry if I haven’t decided my drink before I even find a table). We were able to find a table quickly, but it was gross! Not clean (table was sticky), and they clean the tables by throwing all the crumpled up napkins on the floor (classy).
Yes, tapas come free with the drinks, but they were AWFUL. In fact, we watched in awe as we saw the jamón on bread come out of the MICROWAVE. That’s why the consistency is so tough. If you DO decide to order food, it is extremely lackluster and actually pretty pricey. (18 Euro for a thin-​cut steak with fries and shishito peppers for one). The fries weren’t even really fries– they were awkwardly-​cut strips/​chips/​wedges/​random shapes– and they described this place perfectly: greasy and sloppy.

Comment résumer l’expérience Tigre? Tapas gratuites à chaque commande, pinte de bières ou de vermouth (ou vermut: testez! c’est presque comme du martini mais local) pour 3 euros et pichet pour 6! Que demander de plus? A oui des serveurs efficaces mais sympas pas avares de compliments. Ah et bien c’est le cas!
Évidement l’énorme assiette qu’on vous offre né relève pas de la grande gastronomie mais en même temps on peut s’y attendre. En tout ça fait le job au vue des litres que vous allez consommer sans vous en rendre compte dans cette ambiance festive.
La salle est atypique: un long couloir avec des tonneaux de cidre en guise de table autour desquelles tout le monde se pose !
C’est même ouvert le dimanche soir (mais l’ambiance est plus familiale)

HUGE portions, cheap beer!
We shared a meat dish that the waiter recommended and it was so delicious. Came with a lot of bread and a big tapas appetizer. One of the best places we went to in Spain!

Jajajajaja me encanta ir cuando viene gente de fuera de Madrid que me dice que Madrid es caro…
Y entonces miran la carta y dicen que no es barato pero no les dejo pedir nada, basta con que pidan una bebida cada uno y a la tercera bebida es un «por favor, sólo la bebida, por favor, es para bajar tooooda esta comida».
Es grasiento y aceitoso puro, y no es de una calidad que te mueres, aunque el salmorejo está mu rico y la salsa brava mejor que en muchísimos bares, así que es un acierto cuando no quieres gastar mucho tomándote una sidrita comiendo como un cerdúmeno.
Me gusta ir con moderación, cuando voy por el centro y aprieta la hambruna y sed, ahora en veranico, apetece.

En la fauna de locales, bares y garitos que encontramos en el centro de Madrid, cada cual utiliza su propia estrategia para sobrevivir.
Los hay que atraen al público buscando ser los más cool, o los más castizos, o los que tienen la oferta más innovadora, o los que se mantienen inalterables año tras año para conservar ese aire «de toda la vida».
Estrategias hay muchas, si, pero entre toda esta fauna ¿qué es lo que hace el tigre? Pues el tigre ha adoptado una estrategia más vieja que la tana, y no por ello menos eficaz: la estrategia del «ande o no ande», que sigue hasta sus últimas consecuencias de una manera ejemplar.
Y es que este bar no es el más castizo, ni sirve las mejores tapas. Es lo opuesto de lo cool y a veces está tan abarrotado que ni siquiera es cómodo. Pero un local que sobrevive en la feroz competencia de las calles del centro de Madrid sabe que nada de esto importa si hay algo que marca una diferencia esencial.
¡Y vaya si lo hace! porque ir al tigre es una experiencia. Cutre, sí, pero exeriencia. Y eso es lo que cuenta. Tú vas al tigre y pides una caña, y en ese momento verás pasar ante ti una pirámide de tapas desordenadas en una bandeja inmensa. ¿Que el salmorejo que han puesto encima del pan que acompaña al queso manchego se está juntando con la paella? no pasa nada, ponemos una barrera con el jamoncito que hay en la cúspide. ¿que has visto que el camarero cogía con las manos algunas de tus tapas? pues oye… es un bar muy tiradillo… y el ambientillo acompaña.
Y es que aquí no se lleva eso de ser muy finos, pero sí lo de ser unos exageraos. Y por los 2,50 € que cuesta la caña, en pleno centro de Madrid puedes salir cenado. Y las exageraciones tan, tan exageradas, qué puedo decir, para mi tienen su gracia.
En cualquier caso, la estrategia funciona: El Tigre empezó siendo un garito siempre a reventar de la calle Infantas, y su homólogo, El Tigre del Norte de la calle Huertas está continuando la expansión del lugar, con un pelín más de higiene y bastante más espacio.
Jamás vendría aquí un día que buscase tomar una buena comida, ni desde luego traería a nadie sea escrupuloso, pero para mí es una gran opción para ir un grupete de amigos en plan trotero y empezar la noche, o para hacer una parada técnica para comer en plena visita turística por la Gran Vía. Siempre caen unas risas ante los que no conocen el sitio, y si no siempre está la opción de tomarse la caña, abandonar la tapa y dejarse caer por otro garito que haya adoptado alguna otra estrategia. La prueba, desde luego, no dejará vacía ninguna cartera.

Whilst living in Madrid, El Tigre was one of my favorite places. For a foreigner, it doesn’t get more spanish than this. The tapas-​portions are big and delicious. And for a poor student like me, the prices were very reasonable :).
Don’t be put off by the general untidyness: crumpled napkins and olive pits on the floor. Actually, a native friend told me this is a sign that the food is very good. She was right :).

This place was awesome! I’m so glad I came here on my trip. It’s pretty crowed so you have to have to be patient and look for a place.
My friend and I found a barrel to stand at and ordered our beers. Out of nowhere a HUGE plate of tapas appeared. They were delicious and we are until we were stuffed. Every time we ordered another drink, another plate appeared. I became obsessed with these tiny fried balls of deliciousness. They were so good so we kept ordering drinks to try and get them.
Be forewarned, it’s pretty much a plate full of bread, meat, and potatoes. Absolutely no healthy stuff. I suggest trying this place just for the mystery of the tapas!

Sitio para ir de «tirao», ponerte hasta arriba de tapas y ciego de cervezas, y todo esto por muy poca pasta. Siempre está lleno (sobre todo de erasmus)
La calidad y el servicio no son lo «más» pero el ambiente y lo precios lo compensan.

This is one of the best places in the world in my drinking mind. And among my study abroad program it was a legend and a regular spot. Only one or two of the weird hipster (vegetarian) girls didn’t like it… what ARE you going to like in Madrid lets be real

I haven’t been able to make it over to the original yet, but if it fares better than this one, then I’m pretty excited.
The main reason for the rating is the value. Plenty of places have the 2 canas and a tapa for 5euro around Madrid, but few make the tapa this huge. While I can see where it might not always be the best quality (they just mix and match from large batches from the kitchen), it still is excellent when the price is considered.
I went here with and friend and filled up substantially after two rounds with a friend.
5euro dinner? Yes, please.

Se trata del segundo bar de ‘El Tigre’.Sólo está a un par de calles del original y lo bueno de éste aparte de que no lo conoce mucha gente es que aparte de barra también tiene mesas y así te olvidas de los empujones y el agobio! Las bebidas están acompañadas de tapas contundentes y la verdad es que si después de eso aún te quedas con hambre las raciones no están nada mal de precio. Es un sitio que está bastante bien para cañear a la hora que sea con amigos o familia, pero ten en cuenta que se llena en seguida! El servicio es amable y atento, aunque cuando el sitio se llena hay veces que tienes que esperar un rato a que te atiendan.

Like most people, my first experience here happened when I walked to the original location to find closed doors and a young boy handing out cards directing me to this spot. With promises of the same drinks and food, we made the short walk over to check it out.
The biggest difference between the two? The size! Here you don’t have to worry about fighting for that tiny piece of space to stand while balancing a plate of tapas and drink. Instead, you can wander back to the dining room and even sit down at a table and get waiter service. You may have to wait a few minutes but once you sit down, you are free to hang out there all night long. Unfortunately, the waiters aren’t the nicest but that’s just El Tigre’s style (for better or for worse).
Another night we stood around a barrel by the bar instead of heading back to the dining room. That works too but you just have to be prepared to fight for a place to stand. I find I like the tapas more at the other place (although they are essentially the same) and the service to be just a tad friendlier. However, if you find the original location too packed or closed, this is an a-​ok alternative.

Everyone knows and loves El Tigre — for good reason! It’s a classic. (Personally, I have a weakness for delicious free food served by flirty hot men… but don’t we all?)
Unfortunately, as we probably all already know, El Tigre has the bad habit of closing WHENEVER THE HECK THEY WANT. So this Wednesday night, when my friend and I were supposed to meet at El Tigre before heading home for a chocolate and wine date (…yes.), El Tigre had the audacity to be closed. ¡Pero qué morro! Luckily they had a sign posted on the (closed) door inviting us to join them for drinks and free tapas at their other restaurant, El Tigre del Norte.
Pros of ETDN:
–Much less known. And that means so many fewer people!
–More space. Fewer people.
–Easier to get a drink. Because of fewer people… (are you noticing a pattern yet?)
–Same awesome free tapas as El Tigre.
Cons of ETDN:
–One of the barmen is adorable and recognized me from my past visits to El Tigre, which is NOT a con. However, his collegue was unfriendly, accused us of stealing the nutmeg (some random Dutch we talked to ordered a tequila shot with nutmeg… crazy Dutch people), and then tried to charge my friend and I for two of the shots that said Dutchman ordered. Not nice!
–Same kind-​of-​expensive prices as El Tigre. € 3.50 for a copa de vino? Joderrrrr!
