Dando una vuelta y viendo las cabezas de los Tropper pasamos a este bar. Hacía demasiado calor y ya nos pedía el cuerpo algo de beber.
Sitio amplio, con menú del día y carta.
Pedimos dos pintas de Cerveza la Virgen. Hace mucho que no la tomamos ya que no es fácil encontrarla por donde solemos movernos.
Nos dieron con la pinta una tapa. Después viendo la carta, pedimos algo para compartir; era la hora de comer y no teníamos mucha hambre.
Pedimos unas tiras de pollo con ensalada, patatas y salsa rosa.
Nos pedimos otras dos pintas de lo mismo.
Nos gustó el trato de Adrian y estuvimos bien.
Una cosa que destacar la pinta 4,80 € creo. Demasiado cara!!!

Don’t watch sports here. They’ll change their mind and show something else. The staff there don’t seem to know what games they are showing.

Unreliable! Don’t bother, there are better bars out there.
Play sports roulette, and see if they’ll actually show the game they say they will on the screen they say they will. Don’t waste your time trekking across town just to have them suddenly decide to cater to an influx of United/​Arsenal fans.

Fui a tomar una cerveza ayer y la verdad que me gustó mucho. Tiene terraza así que se puede estar también fuera, tiene pantalla grande y se pueden ver muchos eventos deportivos. Dentro la decoración es muy Irish-​pub, que siempre me hace mucha gracia. El personal es muy agradable que siempre se aprecia.
Seguramente volveré para la Euro-​copa el verano que viene a sostener mi amada Italia.

Que me gusta a mi este irlandés, oye. Su musiquita en directo y camareros guapos e irlandeses de verdad. Bueno, o escoceses o… Pero hablan inglés :p

I had quite a great experience here! I am an American, and a big Liverpool FC fan. They played the Monday night game and I was looking for a place to go. I had heard about an Irish bar just up the road and decided to give it a try. I found the pub on Facebook and sent a message. About an hour later Matt, owner, responded and told me the game would be on.
We sat the bar and a few minutes later some one came up and asked ‘are you james?’ To my surprise it was Matt, the owner from Facebook. He talked to me for a bit and even went so far as to send me other recommendations in Madrid. They had a great bottle cider special, Shepards pie and Liverpool FC on the tube. I was in heaven! Service was great, everyone was nice, but the experience was top notch with a mix of locals and tourists.
Matt, thanks so much for going the extra mile for a tourist!!! Cheers mate!

I now have the business owner harassing me via message and disputing my review. Also questioning whether I was definitely in his bar. Completely pathetic. What happened to the customer always being right? The problem here is rude staff but I am beginning to see where they get it from.

Nice Irish pub in central Madrid serving good hearty food which is familiar to the British or Irish palette and perhaps a bit of an adventure for the Spanish! There seems a good mix of international and Spanish clientele, in fact the two ladies on the table next to mine were Icelandic.
The menu offers a good selection of traditional fayre such as steaks, burgers, shepherds pie and curry. Beer options include Guinness (obviously), Murphys, Heineken as well as some real ales.
I had the burger which was one of the nicest I’ve had with French fries and salad. Everything was delightfully fresh, I could tell it had only just been prepared for me. Even the salad had not been prepared in advance. I added cheese and bacon to my burger which were charged at 30c each.
Unfortunately, I decided to have dessert. I say unfortunately, because this cost them a star in my overall rating. I had Apple crumble and custard. It was lukewarm and the custard was barely warm at all. I’m not a fan of serving desserts in this way — I was presented with apple crumble sat in a millimetre of custard. I prefer a good serving of hot custard poured over my dessert but maybe that’s just me.
The venue itself looks very traditional and is rather tired around the edges. Decent wifi which is always a bonus when you’re away from home. Would I go again next time I’m in Madrid? Possibly, though I’d skip dessert!

Hesitant to go here because i didn’t go to Spain to have Irish beer. Didn’t have any food just wanted a beer! Had a great conversation with Matt (believed to be owner). He told me where to go and not go! He/​Beer eased my nerves of the travel! Gracias!

Buenas tapas, buenas cervezas, buen ambiente…
Sólo he estado una vez, pero mereció la pena. Buen sitio para pasar un rato entre amigos, disfrutar de buenos entrantes, hamburguesas o sandwiches, y por supuesto buenísima cerveza… Todo amenizado con música en directo el viernes por la noche. ¿No hay planes? El James Joyce es un buen sitio para planear una tarde/​noche de cervezas con amigos.

We watched the Super Bowl here on our recent trip to Madrid. The atmosphere was very exciting and loud. The drinks were a little on the pricey side, but I guess you can expect that on a night with a big event. The patrons were welcoming and friendly.

Very friendly with solid pub food. Mathew was great and helped us with our Madrid itinerary and gave us several great tips.

I like James Joyce. Really, I do.
I’ve passed many a nights here usually watching sports. American football games, European futbol matches, the lot. I even watched the Super Bowl here earlier this year and the Copa del Rey.
Here’s what I like:
— attentive (English and Spanish speaking) bar folk
— delicious food menu
— great beer selection including Paulaner on tap! (Sweet Jesus!)
— LOTS of TVs in various sizes
— clean ample bathrooms
— seating if you arrive for a game early enough
— not super touristy as it’s just outside the center of the city
Probably my favorite sports bar in Madrid.

Si quieres un buen ambiente irlandés, donde corren las pintas, la buena comida irlandesa, ver los deportes y se oiga hablar inglés en cada rincón este es tu sitio. Hay tarde de intercambio en el reservado las tardes del lunes (8pm), solo hay que abonar lo que te cueste la bebida.

Pretty typical as Irish bars around the world go but the food was good and the beer suitably cold. It was dead on the Monday night we were in though, despite Ireland vs. Hungary being screened live.

I have been to the James Joyce on many occasion. This is a good quality Irish Pub which seems to attract locals and foreigners who live in Madrid as opposed to the Tourist crowd… This is most likely due to it’s location outside of the «Sol» area where other notorious Irish Pubs (for hook-​ups) are located.
There are three great reasons to head to the James Joyce:
(1) In general, good quality British Food (Irish if you prefer)
(2) They play football on big screens — was one of the great places to be during the last world cup that Spain won
(3) Friendly staff who speak both English and Spanish

De los mejores pubs irlandeses de Madrid y no son pocos. Puedes comer también algo de la carta como una hamburguesa o una patata rellena que están buenisimas.

No puedes decir que has estado en Madrid si no tomaste una cerveza en James Joyce!!!

My girlfriend and I were visiting Madrid on the last leg of our month long backpacking tour when we stumbled upon this pub. We were relieved that the bartenders spoke both English and Spanish so it made ordering a snap. Picking up on our «Merican» accents, the owner greeted us and began telling the his story about the founding of the pub and his transition to the city of Madrid. It was very engrossing to say the least…
Not only did this pub have uncanny hospitality, they also had unbelievable food! Their menu was full of fantastic Irish dishes that will leave you coming back for more… (Which is exactly what we did… We visited the pub 4 times in 5 days.)
Start out with the Shepards Pie and you will not be let down. It is the perfect blend of potatoes and beef and It comes with some homemade bread that will knock your socks off. However, if ordering a salad, I caution you to ask for the dressing on the side…
Not only does the James Joyce offer great food and drinks, they also show many soccer matches that are pay-​per-​view.
If in Madrid, make it a point to stop by and have a pint of the «black stuff» at the James Joyce…

Me encanta este irlandés, excepto cuando hay fútbol, porque no soy nada futbolera, pero desafortunadamente me toca verlo muchas veces de las que voy, ya te acostumbras. Es un sitio interesante, porque está muy bien ambientado, tanto por su decoración como por la calidad de sus cervezas y la atmósfera del local, especialmente los días de menos barullo. Si vas un fin de semana te encontrarás lo que en cualquier otro bar, mucha gente, mucho humo (antes, ahora ya no, obviamente) y, si hay deportes, ojos abiertos como platos mirando las pantallas. Yo prefiero ir los días más tranquilos a tomar una cervecita rica y sin mucho jaleo y a veces a cenar, porque también tienen un salón para comer. La hamburguesa de pollo está bastante buena, aunque os aviso que depende de lo que pidáis es algo caro. Pero vamos, lo bueno de verdad es la variedad de cervezas, así que después de trabajo hacedle una visitilla al local, que os gustará.

Pese a su ubicación casi inmejorable (Alcalá 59, a unos metros de Cibeles) nunca había entrado por ese aire a guiri que rezuma. Sin embargo me animé ya que tenía ganas de una buena cerveza de barril.
Lamentablemente todas mi presunciones se confirmaron: salvo por la decoración (típica de bar irlandés: madera, luces bajas, imitación de vitrales con figuras de escritores ingleses entre las cuales James Joyce) el lugar no vale ni la mitad de lo que cuestan las cosas.
La oferta de comida es más bien limitada: bravas, salchichas y hamburguesas agotan la casi totalidad de la oferta, que se completa con pollo y pepito de ternera y poco más… imposible llevarte algo a la barriga si eres de los mios.
Las cervezas de barril tampoco son tantas ni tan variadas: sólo la Heineken, la Murphys y la Guiness. Todo a un precio como si estuviéramos en Inglaterra. Además parece que los camareros no se enteraron de que estamos en España: el tercero que me atendió lo hizo en español. Los anteriores sólo en inglés.
Pantallas gigantes pasando cadenas deportivas anglosajonas a todas horas y a todo volumen: desde rugby australiano hasta golf norteamericano. Un horror!
Me quedo con las cervezas belgas.

Si lo que estas buscando es un típico pub irlandes con paredes de madera donde beber una buena pinta de guinnes dirígete a este bar sin dudarlo.
Aunque quizás ahora con la ley antitabaco haya perdido ese encanto que tenia su ambiente. Pues esta bar que ya de por si a plena luz del día es bastante oscuro, al entrar en el y encontrarte con las lamparas verdes encendidas, así como las de las mesas, la larga barra de madera tras la que se guarece un camarero que distraídamente limpia un vaso, las paredes de madera y la gran nube de humo que solía envolverlo todo creaban una atmósfera especial, te sentias como en una vieja película inglesa, esperando encontrar al detective con problemas de turno sentado en la barra y ahogando sus penas en alcohol.
Como bien he dicho un típico pub irlandés. donde ademas se hacen actuaciones de rock en directo y cuenta con una bonita terraza donde comer una hamburguesa y beberte una pinta.
Suelen tener puesto futbol y ademas organizan fiestas privadas, así como algún que otro concierto para animar sus noches.

Puedo decir, sin miedo a equivocarme, que este es el mejor pub irlandés al que he ido desde que vivo en Madrid. Desde a decoración hasta la comida, es todo, todo típico, vamos, que se te olvida que estás en España, lo único que falta es que aparezcan unos duendes bajo tus piernas.
Siempre dan los partidos de rugby y de fútbol. La comida es la misma a la que están acostumbrados nuestros colegas del norte. Pescados, huevos, bacon, tostadas y similares. Tienen varias cervezas guapas, pero lógicamente destaca la Guiness.
El lugar es bastante amplio y es acogedor. Me ha gustado un montón.

James Joyce Irish Pub tiene distintos bares por todo el mundo, pero la sede de Madrid brilla por su localización, justo entre la Puerta de Alcalá y la Plaza de Cibeles. Por las mañanas ofrece unos desayunos típicamente ingleses: huevos, patatas, salchicas, etc. Pero por la noche el James Joyce cambia totalmente de registro, españoles e ingleses se juntan para ver los partidos de la liga inglesa, compartir cultura y lengua. Cervezas y copas aparecen en escena y se forma un ambiente multicultural perfecto. Las copas están a 6 euros, bastante bien para ser Madrid.
