Cool place, we stopped in her during a tour and had a lot of fun. Had a drink and a couple snacks. Lots of pics of the bull fights from former years. lots of history here. you have to look all around, or you will miss stuff.

Estafada. Así me sentí cuando, tras ver semejante decoración y nombre, decidí sentarme junto con mi familia para dejarme llevar por la nostalgia de mi tierra. Imaginaos el panorama: 5 personas, 3 cervezas y dos tintos acompañado de una triste tapa de unas 15 aceitunas. Todo por el módico precio de prácticamente 30 €. Comprenderéis que el resto de la carta era de precios prohibitivos.
Todo ello en un bar que presume de andaluz, con camareros que desatienden las mesas, cerveza Mahou (no penséis que vais a encontrar Alhambra o Cruzcampo), y la tapa mas triste que llevo vista desde que estoy en Madrid. Eso si, el tópico del habla en andaluz lo explotan al máximo.
Creedme, esto tiene de andaluz lo que yo de madrileña. No se como estarán otras terrazas de la Plaza Mayor, pero sin duda no pueden ser mucho peores que ésta. Atrapaguiris en toda regla.

This was the highlight of our short day in Madrid. We drank at the bar with complementary tapas that kept coming. The staff were great to converse with and clientele were full of stories about Pamplona and running with the Bulls. This is a must stop in Madrid!

We ate outside by the plaza, but check out the interior of the bar, especially the pictures of bull fights, including gruesome, graphic instances where the bulls won. Ouch. You’ll need the Cervesa.

Kleine Kneipe mit vielen Devotionalien von Stierkämpfern an der Wand. Sehr schön. Schnell ein billiges Bier trinken und kleine Tapas umsonst dazu bekommen.

Olé olé con truco!
La torre del oro es un bar estupendo. Un museo/​mausoleo del arte andaluz y la cultura del sur de España. Sus señalizaciones «Bar andalú» o «Cervisios, allí e» definen perfectamente este lugar especial.
Ojo al truco: NO es un lugar para ir a comer (comida buenísima pero precios prohibitivos). Es un lugar para ir a tomar cañas y dejarse poner tapas mientras disfrutas del servicio de barra típico español, los gritos de cocina, el cencerro de las propinas y los guiris alucinando con el mundo taurino.
Las tapas más míticas son las patatas a la importancia, la paella, los pimientos verdes, el pisto y el maravilloso caldo piripi con un poquito de jerez. A mí casi siempre me ponen TODO eso con solo una caña.
Animaros a pasar por allí y tomaros una cañita en frente de la Plaza Mayor. Van más autóctonos de lo que muchos creen.

The big draw here is the place itself. It is like visiting a free museum. The pictures on the wall and the bullfighting memorabilia make this a great place to stop in around Piazza Mayor. Figured it would be a tourist trap, but I was pleasantly surprised by the place. Ambiance and location were great and the owner/​workers here took care of me and my friends. We drank some decent priced wine and tried some average tapas.

Típico lugar atestado de turistas que, confundidos en su ignorancia, creen que representa lo más intrínsecamente español de todo lo español a lo largo y ancho de la Piel de Toro.
Vista una de las terrazas de la Plaza Mayor, vistas todas. Yo la eché aquí: unas cañas, una ración de chopitos y de algo más que no recuerdo, y a otra cosa. No me pareció que diesen un mal servicio, pero puedes encontrar exactamente lo mismo (y aún cosas mucho mejores) por precios más asequibles.
Volvería si no tuviese más remedio. Y sí, por qué no: si fuese un hoolligan británico y mi equipo jugase a la noche contra el Aleti o el Madrid, me pasaría aquí media mañana y parte de la tarde, hasta la hora del partido.

No me apasionan los restaurantes de la plaza Mayor, todos sabemos que son muy turísticos. Me llevaron a la Torre del Oro (Bar Andalú) hace unos cuantos años para eso de comer «pescaíto frito al estilo Andalusía». Me invitaron, y… sí, he de reconocer que el pescadito estaba bueno.
Pero cuando pidieron la cuenta, no pude evitar ver la suma (pues me la plantaron en los morros) y ¡Oh, My God!
Pobres turistas… porque no creo que vayan muchos autóctonos por allí, excepto quien me invitó.

Right in the middle of the wonderful Plaza Mayor, la Torre del Oro is a very odd but brilliant little place. My one little gripe is that according to our guide book, they give you free tapas with your drink but we didn’t get any and were too unsure of our Spanish to enquire about it. We were sitting outside on the terrace (and overpaid on our glass of chilled white wine for the privilege), so maybe you only get it if you’re actually sat inside or at the bar. Or maybe they’ve stopped doing it and Eyewitness Travel Guides need to get their facts up-​to-​date.
If you want to sit inside of Madrid’s famous bullfighting bar, you’d better be the kind of person that isn’t intimidated easily. And the kind of person that isn’t vegetarian as the first thing you see when you walk in is an enormous mounted bull’s head that takes up half the entrance — followed another one, then another one, then by yet more crazy bull-​fighting paraphernalia.
If that sounds just too weird for you, we found la Torre del Oro’s terrace by contrast an open, sunny area to sit and observe the crazy activity taking place within the Plaza Mayor including buskers, people pretending to be statues and waiters from the restaurants beating pigeons away from their diners.
