So we went to Plaza Mayor today and after a while we thought we’d look around for somewhere to grab a sandwich or something. Came across Uvupan and it looked great. Menu items reasonable, the baked stuff looked gorgeous so we went right in. We got our food, amazing hot chocolate, my daughter enjoyed her Spanish omelette sandwich and my hubby said his cheese and ham toastie was amazing. My Serrano ham and tomato sandwich was ok but a bit shy. Definitely not for the hungry. Reason for my 1 star review. While we were eating, a young guy, maybe 16 or so came by our table and put a piece of paper in the middle and started pointing some stuff to us. We don’t speak Spanish so obviously we had a minute of being confused but then I noticed he was drawing the paper back to himself and he had my phone under the paper. I quickly screamed and grabbed my phone back and he quickly left. I used google translate to inform the guy who had served our food of what had happened and he shrugged! That’s right he SHRUGGED! I was shocked. I wasn’t even mad about the attempted theft because it’s something you have to be aware of anywhere in the world. I wasn’t looking for reparation or whatever. I wasn’t even looking for an apology because it’s not like they were at fault. I just expected a bit of shock or some reaction, definitely not just meh, whatever! That really really soured my entire experience in that place. Horrible horrible way to respond to customers. You won’t catch me in there ever again!!! Beware if you go into the place!

I stumbled in here with my two girlfriends the morning after a rather rowdy and wine-filled tapas tour, and it completely hit the spot for breakfast. We loved that the adorable little waiter immediately handed us the English menu but only spoke to us in(slow) Spanish so that we could understand him– it made us feel less touristy. :) I ordered a version of the jamon sandwich and he was sweet enough to point out that I could get a larger version for slightly cheaper, which was adorable(and a good call– he clearly could tell I needed lots of food). My sandwich was completely delicious and the café au lait was tasty too. My friends both got jamon croissants, which they raved about. I wish we’d had more time in Madrid so that we could have come back to sample the pastries, because they all looked incredible!

Lovely service, and a variety of pastries. Had the apple and fruit tarts with amazingly great American coffee.

Awful! I wanted my crossaint and empanada warm, she said she was going to warm them up. She went to another room to «warm it up» but it wasn’t even warm when I was going to eat it… I saw that the oven didn’t work, so I guess she tried to trick me. Then I think she took an overprice for these two, it costed 5.70 € and I couldn’t get an recipe.

Great location. service was person-dependent and one of the girls even spoke some English and was very nice. The other one was not very nice. Both guys were ok The pastries were great, palmeras/palmiers were nice, chocolate was ordinary, husband loved their American coffee. Empanadas were underwhelming

Dropped in to pick up those mini croissants, danishes and pain au chocolate for a breakfast meeting. They dealt with my appalling Spanish with patience and a smile. Plus the pastries were delicious. It also looked like they had an excellent selection of fresh bread, coffee and sweets, although I didn’t try them.

A very nice café and panaderia. They have an English translation of their Spanish menu. What most impressed us was the friendly older man who I assume was the owner. He washed the tables, gave a warm«¡Adiós!» to some children who were leaving, and was understanding and kind about some minor confusions due to my poor Spanish(I wanted a bottle of Coke instead of a can). He also took the time to talk with us and ask where we were from. Muchas gracias, Uvepan on Calle Mayor!
