I can’t even give this place a one star. I may have to because it will be the only way I can get the website to accept my review. I ordered paella, and salmon. The paella was definitely left over and the seafood in it gross and dried out. The chicken inbit was full of bones. I could have lived with that if it had good flavor. But it was disgusting. The salmon wasbok, but served with yucky fries. Quite possibly the worst meal I have ever had. There were four of us, and none of us could finish our food… we were really hungry, none if us are picky eaters, but just couldn’t force it down. Totally go eat somewhere else.

Excellent lunch that was simple and well done. A good bargain as well. Despite being in a touristy extra it was filled with locals — and for good reason.

I was here in August 2011 and what a disappointment. Toledo at night was a ghost town with only locals and myself wandering the streets. I was dining alone literally. The place was empty. I ordered pheasant that the cook prepared in the microwave. I could hear the cook talking to the waiter and unfortunately for them I can understand Spanish. The cook was an offensive little man who was insulted that I was not having a glass of wine with my meal. I didn’t want to order alcohol because it was very hot and I had gotten dehydrated earlier in the day and still had a slight headache from it. I should have gotten up and left but didn’t. I stuck around because it was the only open resturant in that side of town. Ok, for my microwaved pheasant feast, it was flavored pretty well, the presentation was pretty, and the quantity was decent given the price I paid. The owner/cook is a freak. Avoid.

My family and I were starving and looking forward to a hearty and delicious meal. We were hopeful, especially since we got the recommendation from our trusted Rick Steves’ book. Well, I’m sorry to say this was one of those rare occasions where Rick Steves led us astray… This restaurant is huge with lots seating. I became skeptical as soon as I walked in and saw only tourists. Well, the food definitely validated my concern. They offer inexpensive multi-course meals, which I suppose is ok if you value quantity over quality. My paella ended up being the worst I had on the whole trip… actually it was probably the worst I ever had. A couple of us ordered meat dishes that came with very oily potatoes. The disappointment continued all the way through dessert. My «gelato» ended up being a plastic tub of hard ice cream. No bueno. The food wasn’t inedible, but it was just not good. They offer inexpensive multi-course meals, which I suppose is ok if you’re into a lot of cheap, mediocre food. Bottom line: pass!

This place is exactly the type of restaurant were were looking for, with honest, filling, working class Spanish food at a low price. We walked in and saw four construction workers eating lunch over a bottle of wine. That’s a good enough indication to me — if the locals are eating there, it’s not a tourist trap. The restaurant had a nice cozy feel to it, with low, roughly hewn beamed ceilings, warm lighting, and the painted walls were covered with photographs from well wishers about how much they loved their experiences at the attached hostel. The menu del dia was a definite draw for us, as we were famished after walking around the city all day. The English language menu was also greatly appreciated. I ordered the sopa castellana, which was basically a garlic bread soup. Delicious, and it set me up for my main course, which was a whole boiled ham hock with mashed potatoes and gravy! Yes! My wife ordered the lentil chorizo soup, which she liked, but she said it wasn’t as good as my soup.(I’m allergic to many lentils, so I can’t say how it was.) She ordered the beef, which also came with a nice gravy on it. She enjoyed it very much. We also got a bottle of wine, which was included in the price. I think each meal was 12 Euros, which is a real bargain! And the service was incredibly friendly and prompt, to boot. Even though were were«just» tourists, I felt like they really valued our business. And even better, when we left, the host with the beer belly even gave me a pat on the back, saying«Hasta luego, mi amigo.» Awesome. If we are ever in Toledo again, we’ll come back to this restaurant!
