On our way from Las Palmas to see Roque Nublo, we stopped for lunch in San Mateo. If you use buses as we did, you can only connect through San Mateo. We came across this restaurant and decided to go in. Service was different. We were given menus and had to several times signal the waitress anytime we needed anything. This is fairly standard in the area and Spain in general so don’t let it put you off. Food wise, this was amazing. We got chorizo and fried fish(don’t recall what type of fish) tapas between the two of us. The food here as in most restaurants in gran canaria will be brought with warm bread and aioli. Note that the bread costs extra. It is well worth it. Warm bread; gonna be hard going back to cold bread and that exquisite aioli sauce is one of the biggest highlights of my time in gran canaria. You may just want to eat this your whole meal and forget your food The chorizo was tasty as Spanish chorizo is and so was the fish but all I had on my mind was the bread and sauce. We made about 13 euros for all this. Not bad at all. After your meal you can check out the church in the vicinity, its pretty good. Something worth noting. I dont really know why but most things in gran canaria are in Spanish and German. The menu here is the same.
