It’s hard to find good service that is comparable to some places in the US but this place is efficient and has top notch hospitality. The meat is fresh and fantastically cooked. Side dishes are good for sharing… get them all! They even have options to add flowers to online reservations. Try to book over 24hrs ahead. We walked in after the opera next door and had a short wait.

The girl friend and I were traveling through Europe and were lucky enough to spend two nights in Prague. We went to this place the first night and it was out of this world. First of all, it was delicious! Second of all, the prices are amazingly affordable compared to an American steakhouse. Third of all, it was delicious and affordable! The décor is fantastically modern. The steak was tender and delicious. The wine was extraordinary. And to top it off, the service was great. In fact, this place was so great we almost went back here the second night and went to another place that was not nearly as good, and we regretted the decision not to go back. It was awesome! I highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I are traveling from The States and we were recommended a couple places to eat — after checking out their menus we turned to Unilocal*,and man, you guys did not disappoint! This place is phenomenal. If I could fly to Prague for dinner, I would come here once a month. If we lived here, or Cestr was in The States, we would be there twice a week. The food is absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection BUT what no one mentions is that the price is insanely reasonable. The two us ordered 3 steak entrees, 3 sides and 3 desserts for less than 1800 Kron/75 Euro/$ 85USD. Insider Tip in locating the restaurant: walk to the left of King Wenceslas statue, the restaurant is in the back corner of the ground floor of The Narodni Museum, signage isn’t that great, so be prepared to look for it. If you walk pass the train station, you’ve gone too far.

Superb. Friendly service, interesting menu, reasonable prices, tasty food. Portion sizes are definitely smaller than American steakhouses. But the prices are so cheap that you can order an extra steak or sides if you are really hungry. As far as I recall an 8 ounce ribeye costs about $ 20. Amazing fries. The truffle sauce was delicious too.

Six stars! I cannot recommend this highly enough. I never buy steak in a restaurant anymore because, honestly, I can cook them better at home for much less money — but Cestr has me beat by a mile. The medium rare hanging tender was impeccable; delicious crust that was perfectly seasoned and exactly medium rare inside. At 250g(about 9 oz) it’s on the smaller side so seriously consider ordering multiples(as we did!). I also wanted to give a special shout out to the sommelier; he helped us find a Cabernet Franc from Hungary that was superb. He also NEVER let our glasses go empty. One time I picked up the bottle to pour another glass and then I saw him jogging over to us out of the corner of my eye to pour it for me. Surprisingly, I’d say this place is good for kids, too. We had three with us(between 0 – 6) and they offered coloring mats and pencils to start. The bench seating we were in let the kids stretch and wiggle and they even had a high chair available. Staff served the kids, even the baby, as real people with plates, cups, everything.

A relatively new place opened by the Ambiente Group, a star on the Prague foodie scene. The location isn’t beautiful, but the restaurant is — and so is their food. Simple, but beautifully presented both in terms of aesthetics and flavour. The steaks are the main point of the restaurant, which are all great. I could have used a more intense beef taste for my entrecôte. I have to mention the sides which are all amazingly good. The salads were tasty especially in terms of its dressing and vinegar. The fries were thin and McDonalds-like but extremely tasty. Try the Perigord-sauce. Absolutely amazing.

Just so delish! I don’t see how one can walk away unsatisfied from this place. Meat is what they do, and they do it very well. Steak is done to perfection. Just don’t be too full to try the Kozel ice cream!

I would say words can’t explain how amazing this place is but here I am writing a review of it… While in Prague for less than 24 hours I headed to Unilocal for a guiding hand on the go to place for dinner, I wanted the best of the best and this certainly was it. The restaurant décor it self was absolutely amazing, from the ceiling to the table design everything was just right. Then the menu… wish I could have got it all, in a way I did. My brother and I picked to do the three course menu option. One thing that I noticed were how small the portions were but it didn’t bother us at all, we enjoyed trying a bunch of different things.

How can I not give this a five??? Not that far from Wenceslas Square at the Opera house so in a v good location(in fact you can see the side of the Narodni museum out the window) We tried to reserve online but got a message to say online reservations had to be made at least 12 hours in advance. When we rang we managed to get a table for two for 8pm on a Saturday evening. The host took our coats and then we were shown to our seats. Started with glasses of bubbly and they brought us some amuse bouche which I think was some form of crackling pâté with scallion on soft bread. Whatever it was it was fab! Once we’d ordered they brought us a bread basket. There was a sourdough with a salt crust that I really enjoyed. For my starter I ordered the steak«sashimi» — tenderloin served with sake, apple, mirin and ginger jam — little bites of red meat heaven. Main course I chose the tenderloin cooked medium rare and I got pepper sauce. The meat was tender and melt in the mouth goodness. I got to try some chips too — they were served in copper pots. For someone who isn’t a potato fan they really were v good! Then dessert. I had the dough buns stuffed with poppy seeds and drowned in a rum flavoured mousse. The buns were just bites of yumminess. I had an espresso which was as strong as I like it. I got quite a kick out of the milk jug. Shaped like a cow, the milk squirts out of its nose. Had a good giggle over that. All in all really fab spot. The staff are so nice. I definitely suggest you reserve rather than just rock up as it did look to get v busy.

We ate here around 8 or so years earlier but a different restaraunt was resident at that stage. I hope Cestr has a long and happy life here. It’s a little hard to find as you need to access via pedestrian tunnell close to the Opera House. Service was precise but a few flaws that they should fix such as knowing who ordered what without asking. I am a fan of using less well known cuts of meat and turning them into something special and they have certainly done that here. My highlight was the beer icecream as it combines 2 of my favourite things. Good wine offering and I’d recommend the Czech Wine as it’s very good and even better than we had on previous trips. On a final note toilets spotless but environmenta friendly they are not. Please install a Dyson hand dryer or just have paper towels. Book ahead as it’s busy.

It’s always hard talking about steak. Everyone’s got their way, grass fed, aged, temperature, etc etc. whatever your preference is, Čestr won’t disappoint. And of course the sides. Oh the sides. Aubergine elevated to best friend. Roasted carrots that steal your heart. Potatoes so whipped they’re practically cream. Order the sides, all of the sides. And the one thing I hate to leave for last… Because it’s hands down the best item on the menu: Ice cream from Kozel dark beer. Light, frothy whipped ice cream with delicate flavor and subtle dark beer after notes. Literally. The. Best. Dessert. Ever.

Oh my word. This place is sensational. Came here on a recommendation from someone on Unilocal when I visited Prague for a few days, having been to the city a couple of times before. I brought some Prague-based friends with me who were also blown away! Food-wise, it was all delicious, but I was particularly impressed with the starter I had, which was called sashimi, but beef — so in some ways a bit like carpaccio, but with Japanese flavourings, like sake, ginger, mirin. It was playful, presented beautifully and one of the best things I’ve put in my mouth this year. I would have eaten platters of it. The steak was also good — I had the«hanging tender», which I think I know as a hangar cut. Also, one of my friends was vegetarian(oops) but she still found her food top notch, even in a restaurant specialising in meat! The service was fantastic — nothing was too much trouble and they pre-empted our needs(for example, we had some flowers and they brought a vase for them), and didn’t rush us. Also no charge for tap water, which is a rarity in the city at the moment apparently. I think it’s pricey for Prague but very reasonable for those coming from the UK. I think we split the bill and mine came to around the equivalent of £30(1100CZK) for two beers and three courses. We got lost trying to find it but we called them and they were very helpful and it was fine that we were therefore late. I do recommend booking in advance though as we called the day before and only got a table at 9pm.

This place is VERY good. I am an American who has seen my share of American, Latin American and Asian Steakhouses. I was touring parts of Europe with a European Über Executive buddy of mine and we found this place prime for dinner two of our nights here. Firstly it is centrally located(he would send out Ubers to pick up guests to join us), second it has a great outdoor dining area, lastly they have great drinks and their own brewed fresh beer on tap. This would be a 5 star review, but remarkably I was not enamored by their steaks. We tried three of their cuts, including the filet, but although cooked(broiled?) perfectly, none were really spectacular. That said the Tenderloin Sashimi was AMAZING! For a sure must get! We tried the Steak Tartar as well and it was good, but man oh man the Tenderloin Sashimi was amazing. All of the sides were amazing as well. The fries which I think were like triple fried were amazing. The dumplings were hands down THE best I had in Praha. The Asparagus and spinach were fresh and delightful. We had desert one night, and they were are all great as well. This is/was my favorite place in Praha. Ditch all the touristy spots and go here, where locals go. Reservations are recommended on the weekend!

I’d read about Cestr in a Lonely Planet ‘where to eat in Prague’ feature online and had bookmarked it for our upcoming holiday. It turned out that we liked it so much we came two nights in a row. Reservations were easily made online and the option to add flowers or cake for a special occasion is a nice touch. We very nearly walked past Cestr when looking for it, as it was on the other side of a busy road in a horrible mid 20th century building(which also houses the theatre), but I’m glad Kip noticed the painted cow outside! The décor is simple but classy, with all the patterns being made up of cows’ heads. A sealed menu of the day(the menu varies slightly each day) and a card explaining both the ethos behind Cestr and the different cuts of meat was a nice touch. For 685 Czk(or roughly £14/15) you can order a three course meal consisting of a starter, a roast and steak — with sides. On the first night I had escargots on mushrooms with hollandaise sauce. These were utterly delicious. Kip had beef sashimi. On our return he had escargots, I had steak tartare which whilst excellent was very filling as it came with four slices of very chunky toasted bread. Similarly the quarter chicken I had for my roast on the second night was huge, the beef I’d had originally was a better bet. Both nights I chose mashed potato as my side and it was a pan full of the creamiest, smoothest mash I’ve ever had. Between us for our steak courses we had rump, oyster blade, tenderloin and hanging tender. All excellent, cooked exactly how we’d asked(medium rare, which as the menu says is how they’ll cook it if you don’t specify). Served with a massive portion of french fries. Mmmmmm… On the first night we tried the beer ice cream and the sweet dumplings which were, like everything else, amazing. On the second night we were too full. Both nights we drank the house red, a limited edition Moravian wine produced especially for Cestr and in a batch of only 150 bottles. Fruity and light, it was a perfect accompaniment. It wasn’t just the food that made us return. The service was excellent(perhaps more so on the first night). Charming, attentive waiters and sommeliers eager to tell you all about your wine who feign insult when you haven’t drunk enough of your wine to make it worthwhile topping up — yes that’s right, the sommaliers top up your glass ensuring you are never thirsty. Honestly, the chance to return to Cestr would be reason enough to want to come back to Prague. It’s easily one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to and I’d highly recommend visiting if you’re in town.

I love Cestr so much that I would consider returning to Prague just to eat here again. This was definitely the best meal I’ve had in… forever! The ambiance is minimalistic yet stylish. The service is super attentive. Most importantly, the food is absolutely outstanding. We ordered the escargot in mushrooms, flat steak, brisket, chicken with truffle stuffing, beef broth with egg yolk, and creamy mash. If I come back, I would order every single item again! Also do not forget to order the dark beer ice cream! It will definitely balance your palate at the end of the night(aka just get it, you won’t regret it).

Amazing restaurant, delicious food, great service. An all round excellent experience and possibly one of the best meals I’ve had(anywhere, not just in Prague). On the last night of our trip we wanted to go somewhere a bit special so after a bit of research we settled on Čestr which thankfully has an online booking system. As testament to how busy it can her here, we were unable to reserve a table at our chosen time of 8pm but the very helpful booking manager(Julia) was able to sort us a table at 9pm with no trouble at all. The restaurant is a little tricky to get to. We had passed it earlier in the day as it’s roughly opposite the train station, and we presumed we could just cross the road to get there, without noticing that it is a very busy road with no crossing. We eventually found a subway that got us there. Service was impeccable from start to finish. Everyone was super friendly and also everyone who served us spoke great English and were confident using it(probably necessary as I noticed all of the tables round us were speaking English). There were a lot of nice touches at Čestr that took the dining experience from really good to amazing. First up, your menu is sealed like a letter and there is a diagram showing you where different parts of meat come from on a cow and giving you some background about Czech cuisine and the idea behind the restaurant. Before ordering we were brought a little snack of pâté on home made bread — very tasty. Also we ordered beers and they came with a little beer shot which I think consisted of light and dark beer, beer foam, and malted biscuits. Great! There was a member of staff at hand to help us understand and choose from the menu. As I am greedy and enjoy eating different things rather than one big plate of food, the three course menu was perfect for me. This involves a starter, a roast meat/fish course, and a steak. I opted for steak tartare, roast chicken with truffle stuffing, and a tenderloin steak. Steak tartare was excellent, and it was a really big portion. Fried bread was crispy and delicious without being too heavy or greasy. The flavours of the dish were all great and worked well together. I never usually order chicken in restaurants or eat it very much at all really. But for some reason my gut instinct was to order the chicken. And my gut was right. It was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The flavour from the stuffing was delicious although I couldn’t eat very much of the actual stuffing as the flavour was a bit overpowering. The mashed potatoes that came as a side were absolutely amazing. I’m not ashamed to say that I ate some out of the little pan they are served in with a spoon. So delicious. Then my steak appeared. It was small(which I was expecting as it was part of the three courses menu) and oh was it good. As per the restaurant standard it came medium rare. Although you are allowed to request it to be cooked differently I figured I would let them do what they do best, although I usually order steak rare. It was cooked beautifully, nicely pink in the middle with an almost charred outside. Really good. This came with chips which I didn’t eat very many of although they were tasty. I couldn’t eat another bite, I said, and then the dessert menu appeared and I became aware that I could have ice cream made from a dark porter beer with plums. So that is exactly what I did. And it was excellent. A subtle but delicious flavour with malted biscuits crumbled on top. By UK standards the meal was unbelievably cheap, coming in at around £50 for two people. Another thing I thought when comparing it to UK restaurants is that there was so much room between tables. Which was great. I think in a similar restaurant over here, the tables would be wedged up close to each other in order to fit more diners in. Instead it was more relaxed and I really enjoyed that. Overall, a truly excellent meal. I would recommend and would happily go back.

If theres one type of food I love, it’s steak. So I couldn’t wait to get in here and try this restaurant on my recent visit to Prague. We tried calling at noon on a Monday, and they are so popular that they were already fully booked for the entire day, so we settled on a lunch reservation for the next day. When we went to find the place, we follwoed the instructions on google maps which led us to a building that looked like some plain, 80’s style built government building. Luckily we had google maps to tell us where it was around the corner. At first I thought, «what kind of restaurant is this to be a building that looks … so… well… not great.» I’ll tell you what though, the food and service there totally made up for it. We were promptly greeted and our jackets were taken. The menu changes daily, so you don’t know what you’re getting to eat the day of your reservation. From that day’s menu, we ordered a beef broth soup and for the entrée 3 steak taster to split between myself and my husband. But first — a nice bottle of wine. Ther server who brought our wine out took a minute to describe the bottle we ordered before pouring it. The beef broth was served in a pot(which I was totally not expecting) with ladle to pour into our bowls. Although it felt a little weird ladeling my soup into a bowl, I thought the presentation was actually kind of cool. Although it was just soup, it was nice and flavourful, the egg was a nice flavour. We ordered our steak rare, and it came out a bit later. but we purposefully ordered our starter knowing it would take a while for our steak to come out. The steak came out perfectly cooked, and all three cuts were tasty, flavourful, and tender. Although it was interesting tasting the different cuts back to back, I wish I had just stuck with the cut I knew I preferred instead. At the end of the meal, we had an aged pear brandy which came in a glass that took me a minute to figure out how to drink out of. We also had ice cream made out of a dark beer which was FANTASTIC! All in all, a GREAT restaurant for the steak lover, and probably the best service I’ve had in a restaurant in a long time.
