I agree — this gem is one of the good places in the center. Good beer, good(enough) coffee and hot chocolate, and a fantastic interior. A nice place to while away a Sunday afternoon. The service is… slow, so don’t pop in for a «quick one» before a film.

This café is one of the most famous in Prague and almost always full. It is located in a historical building with the astonishing art nouveau interior. To get to Lucerna café, you have to walk up a large staircase(which also leads to Lucerna cinema). They offer a great coffee in many variations. However, due to amount of visitors, the service can be really slow. It’s anyway a nice place to grab a drink before the movie and sit for a chat.

One of the very few places around Vaclavske Namesti worth paying a visit: Kavárna Lucerna has a dark, cool and very old-fashioned vibe and that’s what makes it so lovable. I never went there for coffee but they do have a well-equipped bar with all kinds of alcoholic beverages and Gambrinus 11° Excellent on tap which you rarely get anywhere unfortunately. Also they have fancy non-alcoholic drinks like matcha teas and the best cola in the world(Fentimans Curiosity Cola). Try this coke once and you will never ever want to have regular sugary coca-cola coke ever again. I once had a sandwich there and I didn’t really enjoy it too much — it was pretty bland tastewise and just not something I would order again. Other than that, this place is amazing and absolutely worth visiting for an hour or so when you are waiting for your movie to start n one of the most beautiful cinemas in the world, the Lucerna. If you don’t fancy going to the cinema you should still give this place a visit — even if it’s just to have a quick drink at the bar and breathe in vintage Czechness that you won’t find that much anywhere else anymore.

A very famous café that is kind of a must to visit. The ambiance is nice but the service not the greatest. Its nice to go there before or after watching a movie in the Lucerna cinema

I can recommend the café Lucerna which is an architectural masterpiece and relaxed and themed café. I like the Art-Nouveau style and the atmosphere which you take to the era of the first republic. It offers peaceful relaxation before or after the movie. This pleasing place could be used for friendly or alternatively work meetings. Before the entry to the cinema hall and café Lucerna, you will go through the passage where you can come across a provocative sculpture hanging from the ceiling made by David Černý. Actually, it´s St. Venceslav sitting on a belly of horse who is hanging turned upside down(the wrong way up). This artwork is supposed to hang there till the monarchy of «Lands of the Bohemian Crown» will be reestablished. What I didn´t like was the smoking. Oh, I´ve forgotten, as for the coffee, it was an ordinary coffee but my companion appreciated it.
