A tourist trap. It’s a pity that this café is in such a great location. It’s also a very beautiful restaurant. But the waitstaff is pushy and rude. Before you even get a chance to settle in, they come over with the dessert cart – and they do not just expect you to take a slice of cake or other pastry, it’s almost like they demand you to do so. And while the desserts appear to be tasty and delectable, sadly they are not. They are rather bland and tasteless. Definitely NOT worth the calories nor the price. And besides, who forces dessert on you before you even order your drink? All the entrees that we ordered were pretty underwhelming. We tried the beef goulash with dumplings. It was ok. The chicken salad was just ok as well. The beef was a little better as was the salmon. By far, the best part of the meal was the bread basket, and that’s not a compliment. Mediocre food with a nice ambience and service I can kind of tolerate. However, at Kaverna Obecni dum, the service was very lacking and blunt. The final insult was when the server brought our check, she very loudly and directly mentioned that there was no tip included in the total. When I went to swipe my credit card, she glared at me when I refused to add tip to my total. And, finally, she just stood in front of us, not allowing us to leave until a cash tip was forked over. Talk about extortion! Now, I don’t mind tipping, even in places that don’t customarily expect a tip. But the wait staff service was just so poor that I felt that a minimal tip would have been quite sufficient. What bothered me was the obvious shakedown for a gratuity. Diners beware.

Over-rated! Waiters not attentive. Waiters choose clients to serve. Cater mainly to tour groups. Better spend your money elsewhere. DONOTGO! Don’t lets the crowd distract you.

My three daughters and I walked into this restaurant with hopes to enjoy drinks and dessert before the symphony. Unfortunately it was not the best experience. First we ordered a couple of desserts from the dessert guy, who didn’t seem to appreciate the fact we couldn’t decide on a dessert. Then Jane, our server, seemed impatient with us when my 14 year old asked if they had either a chocolate or vanilla shake. Those listed on the menu were banana and strawberry. Jane dismissed her request and said only the shakes listed were available. Well, in just a few minutes chocolate AND vanilla ice cream went by. I really couldn’t believe it. The last straw was when I asked if we could get a carafe of water and Jane informed us you could only get a carafe if you were in a group. When we were seated, I noticed a reserved table with a carafe already placed on the table. Just before we were finished two people came to occupy that table. Needless to say I would not recommend this restaurant.

The desserts and drinks were mediocre, but what really makes this only 1 star is the service. Most of the wait staff was rude and not accommodating to simple questions. For example, my younger sister inquired on a plain vanilla milkshake(they serve banana or strawberry) and was met with a harsh no. We later see they serve vanilla ice cream, so the request could have been at least thought about instead of being quickly refused. I would not recommend going here and am very disappointed in the poor service and hospitality demonstrated by this establishment.

Excellent food and service. Great view and location. I had awesome Salmon. My mom enjoyed traditional Czech food. Indoors and outdoor seating. Nice live music. The best waiter we had while in Europe. So polite. Highly recommend it.

Wir waren zum Kaffee dort. Jugendstil !
