Closed until about 2018 they said. They are doing renovations and the dates keep getting pushed back.

The National Museum(Národní Muzeum) in Prague is one of the most bizarre, yet interesting museums I’ve ever visited. We came here in February 2010. The English-language recorded tour(on one of those little phone-shaped guide things), was hilarious. It set the tone for a weird, but fun, experience. the narrator stumbled through the recording, which was full of «um“s and«ah“s and lots of repeated sentences. It seemed so unprofessional and not the sort of thing for the seemingly top museum of a country. The exhibits ran the gamut. Mostly natural history, we learned that at one time(not too long ago), it was legal to hunt just about anything and Czech citizens were encouraged to donate trophy hunt kills to the museum. So the place is chock full of endangered animals — some from a later date than I felt comfortable with. HOWEVER, they also have a GREAT collection of really really old specimens — some so old that they’ve faded to white. Lots of rocks/gems/minerals to see as well. This bit was really cool as there was no language barrier in appreciated geology! Most of the exhibits were worn and many were quite literally caked in dust. The building is lovely and it’s well worth a visit. Even though I didn’t find this museum up to the standard of museums in other countries that I have visited, it was still a really fascinating afternoon and I’m glad we went!
