New favorite Chinese restaurant. They make a good General Tso’s, but they also cook other dishes well. There are many Chinese restaurants in Alexandria blew are even remotely good. This is one where you are likely to enjoy what you order, and at the very least it will be good enough that you won’t mind eating it. I’ve ordered so much bad Chinese food in VA and so finding good food is noteworthy. This tiny little restaurant is making good food!!!

DISGUSTING!!! If you want to spend money here, throw your money in the Potomac and you will be more satisfied than giving it to this place. If you want your house to smell like Carnie-fried food, order from here. If you want your sushi to look and taste like old, frozen nastiness, order from here.

Delivery took an hour and a half(estimated time was 45 – 60′). They didn’t feel the need to call me to even let me know it was going to be so late. My food was pretty good but dry. Definitely going back to South China next time.

I was looking for a place that delivers sushi and came across Asian Wok Café on Eat24. Delivery was quick! I was given a 45 – 60 minutes wait time — maybe that’s the standard on Eat24 — but hearing the knock on my door 30 minutes later was awesome! I ordered the eel roll and the shrimp tempura roll. Overall, not bad. Definitely not what you would get in an actual sushi restaurant. Flavor is pretty good. The downfall is the rice… it’s too thick and seems to be overcooked. Other than that, not bad for delivery sushi from a Chinese restaurant. I also ordered the pad Thai.(Yup, went with non-Chinese options at the Chinese place.) Nice sized portion for the price. Not bad at all. Not as light as pad Thai from a Thai restaurant but the flavor is there and, again, not bad for delivery from a Chinese restaurant.

By the looks of the place you’d think it was just some hole in the wall little place, but my husband and I tried them the other night and I have to say the food was pretty darned good! Wontons were light and flavorful and they even had the pieces of pork in the soup which you rarely see anywhere. Chicken in my chow mein was nice big pieces as well as in the sweet and sour. Delivery was quick and accurate. We are happy we tried them and will be continuing to use them for take out.

Chinese takeout are everywhere and I had always noticed this strange looking building right on GW parkway at the end of old town and assumed it sucked for some reason. But it does not! Prices were a bit high as expected for dinner and don’t think you can dine in. But for takeout the food was fast, easy to order, and cooked very well. The general tso’s was real white meat chicken without any of the overbattered gristle that usually comes. Wonton soup was excellent and came with the little crispies. That was all I ordered but the whole experience was great all around.

Delivery took a call back after over an hour and was it was just average. I decided to try this as something new, I won’t make that mistake again.

I have been here a few times before and loved it every single time. I just returned home from Basic Combat Training for the Army and was craving Chinese food and immediately told my husband to order from here. He had it waiting for me in the car when he picked me up. He ordered me the General Tso which is my favorite and he had the Kung Pao… DISGUSTING. My chicken tasted like it had sat out ALL day and they tossed it in the fryer a second time to heat it up. I am so disappointed. My first meal in 4 months and I chose this place and it was horrible.

I was staying at the Sheraton right around the corner from this place and after checking out some reviews, decided that I would give it a shot. It’s a very small little building right next to the Old Town Gas Station and the inside is even smaller than it looks from outside. One huge plus about this place is that the menu is huge! They have options for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. I ended up getting the Hunan Tofo with Lo Mien rice and some egg drop soup, all of which was pretty good. The owner/cook/server was very nice and brought out my food to my table while in the middle of cooking everyones orders, talk about multitasking! The only reason I’m knocking off a star is that my soup was pretty cold when it came out, which makes me think that they might just simmer the same batch all day. Overall thought, this place is a pretty cool little joint with some good food and cheap prices in the otherwise overly expensive area that is Old Town.

As far as delivery, very disappointing. The sushi was bland and the spring rolls and crab ragoons were over cooked and lacked much filling. Veggie fried rice was also over cooked and had an odd vegetable mixture. Also had egg drop soup that was nice yet the fried wanton pieces for it was again over cooked and stale. Disappointing.

If you’ve driven to Alexandria, you’ve probably driven by this quaint little hut right where the GW parkway becomes Washington Street. What’s the bar for Chinese takeout? Not high, in my book, and that’s part of the attraction. Just give me some tofu cooked in something tasty for cheap. By that standard, I was quite pleased. I enjoyed my two basic tofu dishes over the course of several days, and they were better renditions than average(and I would know; I eat a lot of Chinese takeout), and they did not cost much. They had plenty of decent menu options(plenty for the veg crowd; fake meat entrees as well as tofu and veggies), and the food was ready in fifteen minutes. I rejected the proffered free spring rolls(on account of shrimp), but they threw in a couple of canned sodas for free, which is good by me. It was good enough that I wish I were in DC, but since they are not, I might even visit them again whenever I find my way out to Virginia.

I order take out from here. I live .2 miles away from this place so it’s easy for me to order here all the time. Today I ordered the sesame chicken and chicken with mixed veggies. I also ordered a spring roll and a hot and sour soup. Make sure to get a menu. Their menus have 4 coupons. The coupons read as follow: 1.) free general tso’s chicken with 35 $ or more purchase 2.) free 2 spring rolls with $ 15 purchase 3.) free crab Rangoon with $ 20 purchase 4.) free chicken fried rice with $ 30 purchase The delivery is pretty fast. They usually say it will take 45 minutes but it does not take that long. It usually takes about 30 minutes. Please look at my tip, I have attached a photo(from their menu) of the lunch specials and the corresponding prices for each special.

We ordered delivery from here on a night when it was storming outside and we didn’t want to leave to get food. The food arrived very quickly and it was still extremely hot/warm when we got it, which was appreciated. They also followed our request to not have rice. We ordered the sesame beef and the kung pao chicken as well as the spicy green beans. The orders had a fair amount of food in them & I was able to save enough for lunch the next day. This is pretty standard American Chinese food. Not amazing but also not inedible.

If you’re looking for Chinese in the Old Town area, this is really the only place I’d go. Ignore the sketchy exterior, the food is decent! I’ve had a variety of items here– –Eggrolls and Spring Rolls are decent and crispy –Crab Wontons are tasty and crisp –Crispy Beef is crispy and tasty –Sweet and Sour Chicken is nicely fried –Pad Thai is not traditional Thai pad Thai but it’s tasty –Lomein isn’t my thing but it’s not so bad –Dumplings are better fried, and a little doughy Ordering lunch specials is also a great deal!

My boyfriend and I have had delivery from Asia Wok twice. Both times were very disappointing. My sushi was dry, tasteless, pretty much only rice, and the fish smelled and tasted as if it had gone bad. I sadly made the choice to throw it away rather than risk food poisoning. The spring rolls we received were tiny and consisted only of breading and a strand or two of an unidentifiable veggie. We have also waited over an hour both times for delivery. When I called to ask where our food was, the woman who answered the phone shouted,“Yeah, it’s on the way!” and had put the receiver down before I even registered what she said. When the delivery man arrived, our food was cold and he offered no explanation as to why it was about 1.5 hours for delivery rather than the 35 – 45 minutes we were quoted. Bottom line: Old Town is full of excellent delivery and full service restaurants. You should never waste your time and money at this one.

The only reason I am giving Asia Wok 1 star is because I can’t do less than 1 star. The only thing that this meal had going for it was that the delivery didn’t take the full 60 minutes grubHub quoted… 1) The wonton soup had pieces in the wonton that were inedible. Wonton soup should never have a crunch in it. 2) The fried wontons were chewy and lacked flavor. There was supposedly a small marble sized meat substance in the fried wonton, but you could barely taste it because you basically had to swallow it whole in order to eat it 3) The kung pao chicken had no flavor. I am not honestly sure how that is even possible. It literally tasted like plain chicken and the only time you would taste something else was if you happened to bite in to a piece of chili. Never ordering from here again.

Let me tell you something: when I first moved to Old Town, I got a menu from every Chinese place I could find within a 5 mile radius of my home and tried each of them. Asian Wok is a very strong contender. The prices are pretty standard, if not a little bit cheaper than some of the other Chinese places around the area. If you can order from their lunch menu, it definitely becomes worth it! Their shrimp lo mein is THEBEST I have ever had. Chicken lo mein, not so much. Their egg drop soup is standard. Their General Tso’s chicken, I’ve had better. Their fried shrimp, not what I was expecting(I was expecting breaded, not battered), but not awful. Their wings/sauce is pretty good also. But the real reason I keep coming back is for the employees. It’s within walking distance for me, so whenever I’m feeling active enough walk over, rather than order delivery, I’ll make the trip over. The woman who takes orders/rings you up is very sweet and has a good memory when it comes to orders and faces! My boyfriend and I had only ordered from her twice before, but she recognized us and our orders and was nice enough to give us each a free soda because she heard us debating about whether or not to get one. I’ve never had any problems with delivery times or them messing up my orders, but I also live within 3 minutes of the place so there’s really no excuse. When the weather is nicer, there are tables outside that you can use. The inside of the restaurant gets pretty hot, so the breeze and sitting under the umbrella’s shade outside is the best!

There are about a bijillion place in Alexandria to get Chinese food and Asian Wok is not the best but it certainly isn’t the worst either. Many of the reviews seem to really slam this place for its sketchy delivery;it is true that delivery here is often not of the speed of a Dominoes Pizza, but the food does deserve a better rating than its delivery. However, takeout is much better, and in the summer you can use some of the cute benches outside this little hut-like restaurant. It really is something out of the 60s, and you almost expect the Brady Bunch to round the corner any minute. «Jan, give this egg roll to Marsha.» «Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!» The great thing about this place is that they have wise selection of menu options, and some of my favorites include the combination fried rice, Moo Shu Vegetables, and Pad Thai. All of these dishes are pretty yummy, spotty delivery time or no. So, I would give Asain Wok a try, for you really could do far worse. Finally, a five star nod must be given to Asian Wok’s online ordering website, for It is without a doubt, one of the best I have ever seen. You just click on the menu item and place it in your little Asian Wok shopping cart. With each item, it confabulates your total and even gives you the option to add extra sauces and specify weather you wish to pick it up, dine in, or get delivery. Why, there is even a spot for the tip, but it must be noted that they charge a $ 1 delivery fee which I am not sure if most places do, All and All, the online ordering page is a great little feature.
