Met a friend here for dinner the other day and was impressed by the food. Although not listed on the menu, you can get any 2 of the rolls for 17.95; the rolls were huge and delicious. It did not come with the soup/salad, but it did not bother me too much. My friend ordered one of the entrées, and when he attempted to order an appetizer to share, the waitress pointed out that we could get a «combo» which we thought meant that we could do half-and-half on any two appetizers, but what it ended up meaning is that for 17.95 he could get his entrée and then two(perhaps smaller versions?) of appetizers. It ended up being a lot of food; he liked his tempura and the gyoza were super fried and crunchy. Our meals came quickly enough, but my water was never replenished and after our waitress dropped off the sushi, I noticed that there wasn’t any ginger. I am pretty sure if I asked I could have gotten some, but she did not come back until dropping off the check.

The food is good but the service is a nightmare! Took 15 minutes just for someone to come to our table. I had to repeat my order four times. We finally got soup BUT there were no spoons so we had to drink from the bowl because there was no one to even ask for a spoon. We have been here for an hour and still haven’t gotten our food.

Great sushi! I’m new to Alaska and am happy that I found a good sushi restaurant. They have a combo: 2 rolls for just over $ 17. One roll runs $ 10 – 14. We split 4 rolls between 3 people. There’s about 10 pieces per roll, which is standard. Everything tasted fresh and like it was from an experienced sushi chef. Yum.

WARNING: If this is your first time at Shobu, you will be tempted to get the all you can eat sushi. I advise against that. The rolls here are huge and filling. The combo gets you two rolls, salad and soup. The sushi is delicious, but the parking is atrocious. The hours are a bit weird too, they don’t open until 2 pm on Saturday. I don’t really know what else to add, really really good sushi.

When They first opened we came here so much! The sushi was pretty good and what attracted us was the all you can eat sushi. When you go to other sushi restaurants you can easily go over $ 50 just ordering a few items. I finally came back from Cali and we decided to go back to shobu because we had a good experience the last few times we went. However, this time our experience wasn’t so good. We did all you can eat again: 1) We had to point to the items on the menu because she didn’t understand us when we told her what we wanted to order. This took a while ordering our food everytime. 2) When the sushi came out the rice was warm and so was the sushi(example the salmon :/) 3) Ordered the calamari dinner which was 15.99 on the menu got the calamari and it was given in a small side plate which looked more like an appetizer instead of an entrée or dinner. 4) Ordered the Salmon Teriyaki Dinner and we received a really good piece of salmon and a side of rice but the salmon wasn’t seasoned or had any teriyaki sauce on it. I flagged down the waitress and had to ask her for a side of Teriyaki Sauce which made the dish much more tastier. I don’t think were coming back anymore. The AYCE attracts us but the quality of the food and service went down :/…

I came here cause I was recommended to come here for the sushi. The sushi here was excellent. The rolls were fresh and all the entrees and appetizers were excellent. The reason for the 3 stars was the service. When we got there, the service was excellent. As the night progressed and we started to get to our 12th roll(party of 7), the service starting slacking. It felt like they were trying to send us a message to leave. The waitress would leave half way through our order making us order on the next turn. I would try this place again because the sushi was great, but hopefully the service stays great the entire time.

Awesome. This place takes me back to a great AYCE sushi place I used to frequent in college. Prices are reasonable for individual items and the portions are large. The AYCE is well priced around 24, but I think the real bargain is the 2 item special for around 15. You will notice that the rice amount per roll is higher than some other places in anchorage but the taste is awesome You can call this rice-to-fish ratio if you’re a sushi obsessed. The fish is good quality as well as expected in Alaska. I’ve been several times and the service is great every time. Inside it’s nice but outside is the usual Alaska strip mall.

Best sushi restaurant in town. I come here once every week and get the all you can eat. Will keep doing it until the end of time itself. Also became good friends with the two sushi chefs. They are awesome!

Still my favorite because it’s the only all you can eat sushi. Also, if you choose to get the all-you-can-eat deal and only manage to eat two rolls, they will change your $ 25-$ 30 order to the $ 18 combo. Just be aware of the busy hours because service can slow down from the small manning.

This place was pretty cool! Although the rolls seemed to get bigger as we went on. My husband and I went to Shobu based on some other Unilocalers’ reviews. The restaurant didn’t have AC, so it was much hotter than it was outside this particular day(71 outside). We decided to do the all you can eat. We both decided to get that since if we decided to share they would charge us extra any way. The egg rolls are delish as are the gyoza. The Crazy Dragon roll was by far my favorite. My husband said that the spicy tuna roll he got was gross. Sort of like ground up fish as he put it. Not what he was expecting. All in all good experience! We were stuffed when we left.

I like sushi. However, I rarely eat sushi. Why? It’s not very filling. I usually have to spend an absurd amount of money to be sushi-satiated. And if I’m spending that much money, why not just go to a «fancy restaurant» instead? First of all: this place has unlimited sushi. And it’s not unlimited sushi boat/train/car sushi. It’s made fresh, order by order. How do I know this? They wouldn’t let me get unlimited sushi. Why? Their chef(s?) was backed up from the crazy amount of business they had when I visited. However, they had an amazing special for about $ 17 that filled me up just fine! It’s based on a point system. Your waiter/waitress can explain it better than I ever could. More or less, I got: a couple sides, a plate of chicken katsu, and a sushi roll. Pretty good deal for 17 smokes, other places in town would just give you a roll for that much! And you’d leave still needing a cheeseburger This is another fabulous addition to the Muldoon Foodsplosion happening in Anchorage, I will definitely be back!

OMG– very impressive! I decided to come here for lunch today and my expectations were far surpassed. Yes, this place is also an all you can eat sushi bar — but this also has very reasonable strings attached; order what you can eat, if you leave a bunch of ½ eaten rolls you risk being charged full price. There are other options as well, the combo price which is 17.95/pp. I ordered the«hot night» roll, gyoza and veg. tempura. My BF got the ramen noodles and rice, pair of spicy tuna and seared tuna. We started with soup and salad. Service was ABOVE and beyond. The only reason why I have this place 4 stars was because the roll was OK, could have been better. Oh and the meal ends with a fabulous tempura Oreo. THISIS A MUSTGO! If you’re on a date, in a group or a business lunch– this is a great place.

I don’t even know where to start!!! This place was amazing! And I eat a LOT of sushi! The atmosphere is excellent(don’t let the location discourage you), the service was wonderful(they were so polite and very fast), and the food was absolutely delicious!!! I can’t use enough«!!!» ‘s… On top of that, they have excellent«All You Can Eat» lunch and dinner specials, as well as a two-combo special for $ 17+. Fresh food, beautiful décor, and great service will make us customers for life!

This is the same review I wrote on Facebook: Just opened, newly renovated and beautifully transformed from what was formerly Chopsticks Korean Restaurant. Spacious yet warm and inviting atmosphere with very simple, attractive décor. Service was great, as waitress was eager to please, although we were the only people there(early afternoon) when we arrived. Food was fresh and tasty. $ 29.95(dinner, $ 24.94.lunch) for All You Can Eat Sushi includes the hot entrees and dessert… can’t beat that deal! Only catch is if you don’t finish what you ordered, you will be charged the full price. It’s a frugal and practical solution to overeating and overspending, in my opinion. Overall, very happy with our first visit and look forward to more.
