Obviously haven’t been here in years but I wanted to nostalgically put in my 2 cents since it’s closed. I remember a friend calling me up in the morning and saying hey let’s go to Flim Flam in 10 minutes. We had all been out pretty late the night before so I laughed at first at the name and then the idea of getting ready and going anywhere in 10 minutes. I passed. Somewhere along the line(maybe the next weekend) the same call happened. This time, feeling guilty, I quickly got ready and went. It was so casual lol. It felt like a Big Boy style place. The servers were funny and friendly and the food was out fast. Portions were pretty good sized too. I think we talked to the owner a couple times and he was pretty nice. I probably ended up going here 6 or 7 times and one of the servers remembered us. It was a easy meeting spot for friends driving into town too and we never had to wait and were never rushed. Seeing it has closed I probably should have gone here more. It was the most reliable, simple, affordable, and non pretentious place for us to grab a quick breakfast or lunch in the area and I’ll miss it a lot. P. S. Just editing this and noticed that a place called The Songbird Café has opened in this location and has a 4.5 star rating. I’ll still always miss Flim Flam but at least it’s good that there is a new popular option in the same location.

Some mornings you roll out of bed and you just want someone to serve you some sausage, hashbrowns and eggs. Flim Flam is the one breakfast spot in Ann Arbor where you can 1) easily find parking and 2) leisurely eat your breakfast without feeling rushed by the wait staff or the growing lines outdoors. Sure the décor is reminiscent of a nursing home cafeteria, but that just adds to the easy casual feel. The breakfast menu is super cheap which makes it a great place for groups of students to have brunch. This isn’t a place you take people you want to impress, this is the place you go with people you want to relax with.

This is another Ann Arbor breakfast institution that I am not impressed with. Let’s discuss the pros and cons of this particular A2 Institution: Pro: They have potato pancakes, something I rarely make at home. Con: The special seasoning in the potato pancakes(McCormick Curry Powder) is disgusting. Pro: Easy parking in a strip mall. Con: It’s next to Baskin Robbins, so when your disappointing breakfast arrives you can stare into the Baskin Robbins longingly, wishing you had made a wiser breakfast decision. Pro: It’s been around forever. Con: The walls and floor look like they were last replaced(or cleaned) in the year I was born. Bottom line: The severity of the cons outweighs the pros, making Flim Flam a place that I shall not return.

This diner is cheap(especially for AA) and the food is decent. The eggs and sausage are always good, but the hash browns can be limp and oily and the bread can be sopping with butter in ways that I wouldn’t expect even for diner food. The service is usually good, but I’ve also had some people wait on me who seemed to dislike their choices in life… okay, but don’t take it out on me. For a fast and good meal, this is a good choice, for amazing breakfast, look further.

ok, I’m a fan. Where else can you get poached eggs on pumpernickel, or apple compote waffles this good. Its cheap too. Ann ARbor institution I hear? A golden girls reference? haha maybe, but WE like it…

This is a great family friendly place in a cute little shopping center. It is conveniently placed close to the highway and close to the North Campus of the University of Michigan. The waiters are friendly and kind and the business owner is there most of the time giving you a good-sense of good customer service. Also, the have a lot of delicious foods there and cute foods for kids although I have to say I don’t remember the last time that kids menu was updated but the food is still inexpensive. It’s a very good lunch and breakfast but not for a formal dinner. And its good for after special events like church.

This ain’t Angelo’s or Café Marie but the food is good and it’s dirt cheap! This was a usual Sunday brunch for me and my friends after church. I normally get their all day brunch menu because everything there was under $ 4!!! Friendly staff!

Flim Flam holds a very special place in my heart since it was the first place I ate in Ann Arbor before my first visit to the Michigan campus. It could be considered the first step in my college career, and it definitely taught me that Ann Arbor has a great place to get dirt-cheap breakfast. Come in expecting completely average quality breakfast and you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been here numerous times during my time at UofM and it’s the perfect combo of fast, cheap, and tasty. Best of all– breakfast is served all day(which means as all I’ve eaten there is breakfast). Its ocassionally becomes crowded but nevertheless the staff was friendly and food always came out fast which is perfect when all I want is eggs, hash brown and toast on a Sunday morning.

I’m impressed with this family old fashion diner where the prices are super cheap. I normally get hash browns, 2 eggs, sausage, 3 pancakes, toast… for $ 5. At most you can spend 10 on breakfast if you really tried and if you want to get what I got minus the pancakes OR the hashrbowns then its about $ 3. My roomies and I try to go once in a while so we can catch up over this breakfast. The seating is pretty easy to get, I recommend the actual tables not the booths since the booths are a bit tight for 4 people. The waitresses are always very friendly and helpful. I love the pumpernickel bread and how fast they bring out the food.

I am not sure how folks have liked this place. I had so many bad meals there when I worked in the area that I preferred to go to McDonalds rather than eat at this place. The food was just poor and the service was too. I tried burgers, salads, sandwiches, even the old standby bacon and eggs. Sorry, I just don’t get it.

Went to Flim Flam yesterday for Sunday morning breakfast with my wife, daughter, and 2 friends. Walked right in, sat down and got a table for 4 adults and 2 kids. Excellent. This place is CHEAP. I’m talking 3 bucks for a nicely put together breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, choice of meats, and toast. Coffee is flowing constantly. This place isn’t fancy or unique, its just a nice place to sit down, have some solid breakfast, and save some money. Also, not too busy, so we were able to spend some extra time chatting and enjoying the bottomless cup of coffee without feeling rushed. Kid friendly for sure. My daughter enjoyed the vast selection of 10 crayons they gave her.

I give the Flam a 3-stars because the service was good and the food A-OK. I had a club sandwich that I thought was a nice portion for the price although a side like chips or something would be nice. This is an older diner stuck in time. The place has this«semi-clean» feel, like it’s kind of clean but not really. Know what I mean? If you look around you can see it could use a good scrub down. Not a big deal to me but it was enough for me to notice. I’m not normally in the Ann Arbor area so I stopped by here just looking for something new and not fast food. Flim Flam hit the spot but when I’m in AA again I’ll be looking for something better.

The breakfast specials at the Flim Flam are unbeatable. Eggs, pancakes, sausage or bacon w/toast for less than $ 3! Lots of good food for a great price. The lunch and dinner menu is ok as well but the real value is in the breakfast options. Good food, good service and great prices w/o attitude — my kind of place :-)

The Flim Flam isn’t just a diner– it’s an institution! It’s a dorky little diner in a strip mall, and the interior is just as un-hip. But breakfast is good, and the waitstaff is top-notch. When you’re dining there, hope you get one of the middle aged ladies as a waitress. They look like your mother but they’re even nicer. They provide warm, friendly, and attentive service. The only bad service I’ve ever had was from a young woman, probably a college student, who didn’t last long there. I’m only giving the Flam four stars because lunch and dinner are so-so compared to breakfast and because the décor and atmosphere are pretty pedestrian. But if you’re an aficionado of dive restaurants, you have to check The Flam out. As far as lunch or dinner, I do like the Greek salad, which comes with one whole boiled egg. Companions have told me the fish sandwiches are good as well. But if you’re going to check it out for just one meal, choose breakfast. I almost always opt for omelets with hash browns, but the one time I had the potato pancakes, they were great, too. One of the nicest, homiest touches about Flim Flam is that part of their décor is a wall where they post«art» done by diners, mostly children, in the form of crayon drawings on the paper place mats. I’ve always found that endearing. Note: The hours listed are for the school year. During the summer, the diner is closed for dinner. Call ahead to confirm the hours if you’re not sure if they’re on their summer hours or not.

Flim Flam is a great place for breakfast, and if you don’t believe me, ask Bill Gates. According to the Ann Arbor Observer, he ate there when he came to Ann Arbor to suss out the mega-laboratory that Pfizer recently shut down. I like the décor at Flim Flam. It’s a Coney Island-style restaurant, but the furniture, place-settings and everything are nicer than most Coneys. It’s the kind of place my parents would want to have breakfast, because they don’t like to pay for parking, walk a long way or get mugged by panhandlers; I don’t mind any of the above, but parents will be parents. It’s probably possible to overdo it, describing breakfast at such a straightforward place, so let me say that it’s just a big, wholesome all-American plate full of sunshine and purple mountains majesty. Flim Flam is in the Plymouth Road Mall. So the next time you’re driving through the drive-thru at McDonald’s, just stop what you’re doing, cross Nixon Road, and have a real breakfast.

This is the place we go when we’re tired of chains and Ann Arbor’s «nice» restaurants. It’s simple food done well without any sillyness. The service has always been swell and the food is classic diner fare.
