Got to eat sashimi that is not available in most other places. Not sure what they all were but they were all good. Go with a group and get one of the various sushi boats…

I used to love the Korean style sashimi here. Yesterday, we had 2 pounds of flounder and a sashimi dinner. This equates to a 98.00 bill. Approximately 91 plus with tax. So after tip we are at 120.00. The sashimi dinner had only 6 pieces of fish, 1 shrimp, 1 piece abalone, and 5 prices of some kind of inside out California roll with mini red fish eggs. This is a sashimi dinner? This is to accompany 2 pounds of flounder? This looked like a sashimi lunch special at a Chinese sushi restaurant except they don’t try to make the thin slices of fish look bigger by slapping a bit of rice underneath it to puff up the look of the small portion. This was like a sashimi appetizer. Anyway, I was disappointed, and they will be disappointed when we go next door to the competition, or down the road to the two other Korean sashimi restaurants in the future. After we were basically finished, as an after thought they brought a small whole fish pan fried. Usually, this comes before the sashimi gets to the table. This was not the special meal we were hoping for.

I am not sure what we ordered, but it was a ton of sashimi(see pic) and we had quite a bit to drink. Fresh fish, quality banchan/side dishes. I can’t remember getting so full from sashimi. Total cost per person? $ 40 including tax and tip. Pretty damn good value if you ask me. Also, the English on the restaurant’s front side now just says«Seafood Restaurant». The Annandale part is gone.

Went here a couple weeks ago with my wife and parents. We ordered the $ 99 sashimi platter. Before the platter came out, we were given a bunch of banchan including, a steamed egg dish, some king mushroom, mussels, grilled shrimp, a whole grilled mackerel, and what I think was a whole tilapia. Once we were finished with the banchan, the main star of the night came out – the gigantic sashimi platter. The platter that came out had tuna, salmon, escolar(the one disappointment, was frozen) some other fish, surf clams, what was probably a whole flounder that minutes before was swimming in a tank, and what I think was raw eel that was also minutes before swimming in a tank. All of the fish(with the exception of the escloar, because it was not fully defrosted) was very tasty. The four of us could not finish it all. Once we were done, they proceeded to bring out a huge bubbling cauldron of fish bone stew and more banchan(kimchi and some soy bean sprouts). This meal was huge. When my sister found out about the meal she was mad that she wasn’t included. We will definitely be back for more at some point. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

If you are craving some seriously fresh seafood and sashimi in the DC/VA area, this is the place to go. This Korean restaurant has has an elegant hardwood interior, the friendly sushi chefs greet you in Korean as you enter, and different types of live exotic seafood swim around in a tank. A great place to indulge your fresh seafood cravings and also push your boundaries a bit. «kill to order» The menu can be confusing for the non-Korean, but just a basic order of one of their large mixed sashimi platters will not disappoint! The one we ordered came with various types of fish(yellow tail, tuna, salmon, red snapper, fatty tuna, squid, the basics) atop a bed of radish shreds, which keeps the fish nicely fresh and soft. A great plus is they come out with a lot of better-than-average ban-chan(side dishes), and near the end of your meal will cook you up a refreshing spicy fish soup to wash down all the awesome fish you just devoured.

This restaurant is pretty serious. The fish is very fresh(like taken from the tank and killed to order). The sashimi comes with tons of side dishes. Not realizing that, when I went with my friend, we ordered way too much because we wanted to try all the different dishes. I took home all the raw fish we couldn’t eat, froze it, and hope to grill it this weekend. Also, I think this restaurant changed ownership last summer. I disagree with the review that says the roe was sketchy. Everything I ate was very fresh and yummy. This is one reason why I don’t feel the need to travel a lot — living in the DC area, the world comes to me.

I went to check out the Korean festival but I didn’t feel like street food. I went back to the place I parked my car near the Annandale Seafood, thought about having some korean chirashi. The waitresses were very polite and sweet, I always get the Korean greeting but they realized I am not korean. The ban chans were good and the chirashi was prepared quickly. There was a variety of fish in the bowl including the fish roe, I liked they were chopped in cubes. I drizzled the hot sauce all over and ate it really fast since it was not a hot dish. The fish was fresh. It was simple and easy.

I would normally give this place 4 stars based on their eel alone, however, due to my last dining experience here, which was unfortunately the absolute worst in the history of my life, they’ve been downgraded to 2 stars. Let me start off with the eel. This place is known as the«eel house» in Korean for the right reasons. They have live eels and you will 100% with out a doubt, unquestionably get the most money unagi you’ve ever had in your life. This unagi melts in your mouth like butter. Listen to me when I say come for the eel and for the eel only. The reason I say this is due to the last time I ordered an arrangement of sushi and sashimi. The ikura(salmon roe) I ordered looked like it was about a month old and completely unsafe to eat. I took that not only as an insult, but also as a gesture of harm and couldn’t believe that a «sushi chef» would dare serve this to a patron. Secondly, the sashimi platter had what looked like a tiny black inch worm crawling across the plate. I know. So that being said, how can I still recommend you come here for the eel? Well the eel has high turn over and since it’s there alive, chances are that it’s gonna be really fresh. Secondly, unagi is cooked. I hear that on thursday’s they serve live octopus, Old Boy style. Since I’m not aware of anywhere else in the area where they do this, I’m open to seeing what thats all about.

This place is almost identical to Dong Hae Bada(by Bön Chon chicken). They specialize in Korean style sashimi. The aquarium contained lobster, crab, some kind of flatfish, live octopus, abalone, and some other things that I couldn’t identify. Like all Korean restaurants, its great for a large group, so you can get a wide variety of dishes. I couldn’t get the sashimi with a large parade of sidedishes because we were a party of two. I had the seafood bibimbop in a stone bowl. It only had a small amount of seafood on there and the taste was typical, not something I would order again. I advise to skip the Japanese stuff like nigiri and maki, and stick with the Korean food. The service was mediocre and they were out a couple of things that we wanted to try. I prefer the service and food in Dong Hae Bada over Annandale Seafood. The service was much more attentive at Dong Hae since the owner worked in the front and took great care in making sure the customers will return.

The sign outside this establishment is only recognized by Americans as «Annandale Seafood Restaurant» but to Koreans this sign is written in a mix of Korean and Chinese characters and supposed to mean«Eel City Flounder District». For the hardcore seafood enthusiast this is a great place to test your boundaries. My friend brought us here because he had been there once before and they had ordered lobster sashimi(raw lobster). Basically it was a whole live lobster with its tail cut open and served as sashimi. Interior of the restaurant has nice hardwood furniture, although feels a bit cluttered with the confusing décor. This place was pretty full when we went in on a Friday night, and had to sit on cheap plastic seats. We ordered the($ 99.95) LARGE Sashimi platter which included 6 types of fish, shell fish, octopus, sea cucumbers, and sea squirts, etc. I’m not even 100% sure what they all were. I just know some of it was way outside my comfort zone. The food at the beginning of our meal was great… coming out with some suki dashi(not sure what it literally means in Japanese but it’s similar to hors d’oeuvres) such as Al-bap, Pa-jun, Kim-mari, Donkatsu, Dduk-boki, Ddak-gochi, etc.). The actual seafood was both forgettable(sushi) and unforgettable(the really strange stuff like sea squirts and sea cucumbers). I’ll definitely have to come back to try the lunch specials which are served everyday until 2:30pm and starting at $ 7.95. Dinner starts at $ 9.95.
