Barnes Arcata Family Drug

Friendly. Fast and efficient. I was in and out quickly and what time I did wait was easily borne due to all the interesting items I got to peruse. Really how many pharmacy or drug stores have a giant basket of loose gaming dice perfect for DnD? My daughter found a unique die and now wants to go with me everytime I pick up a prescription.

The cashier seems to be the same person and she excels at customer service. Some of the techs who get your prescriptions from behind the counter vary in friendliness. Some are very friendly, and some are just normal people doing their job. Not everyone who has a job that involves customer service is going to be a Starbucks barista, which is fine. No one can be held to that standard, so I’m not applying it here. But since some people expect that I thought it worth mentioning.
That said, this Pharmacy is much better than CVS. Read my review… it’s honest, but not nice!
I gave Barnes 4 stars because of their refill system. If they have an automatic refill system, I don’t know about it. To verify your order has been filled you have to call in, get through the menu of options, and talk to a live person. Now, granted CVS will call you using an automated system, which is the worst thing since the invention of
(Not .com, just .co), but it was convenient.

My favorite pharmacy. Open til 7pm! Have been using Barnes for 13 years for the whole family. Locally owned and operated and sweet gifts to browse if you are waiting for your medication. I’ve tried mail and others and they don’t hold a candle to Barnes. Thank you to all who work there.

They do their job… however, while picking up prescriptions, I’ve found many of the employees to be less than friendly and helpful. Maybe they could work on customer service a little! Besides that, they have a variety of odds and ends besides a pharmacy, which are always fun to look through.

I have been a customer of Barnes for over 10 years. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Their service is great and the employees are very knowledgeable. I no longer live in Arcata but Barnes is still the very best pharmacy around.

Nice pharmacy. There can be a bit of a wait to get your rx, but it is a lot better than getting them filled down the street at cvs. Pharmacists were always really nice, and willing to answer any questions you have. Nice local drug store.

I love this pharmacy. I switched to Barns after CVS repeatedly told me that my insurance didn’t cover birth control pills, complete and utter crap. I recommend Barns to all my friends and family. The best thing for me is their delivery service for Arcata residents, I have epilepsy and don’t drive because of it, Barns delivers my epilepsy meds to my door every month.

Hope I hit a bad day… the gal at the prescriptions counter was inattentive and rude… told me she had told my physicians group many times that the service I asked for was not available… sorry I bothered her… so much for local customer service.

A solid pharmacy, and family business with customer service second to none. This is my choice for my prescriptions even though I have closer pharmacies to my home.
All of the staff that I have ever dealt with have always been friendly, kind and courteous and I have never experienced to much of a wait in a line As well a great service they offer — If you are busy and you live in Arcata and call them before noon, they will deliver your meds to you — this type of customer service has become a thing of the past in most of their competitors and this family business is another great thing that makes our town such a cool place to live.
Additionally, they carry an interesting mix of toys, decorations, jewelry, cards, wall art, books, stuffed animals, and collectibles. They accept Medicare, Blue Cross, and other insurances. and they are more than willing to take time with you to educate you about your prescriptions or answer any questions you might have.
As another service — for long standing customers they will run an account and bill you monthly.
Parking (probably the only drawback) in the rear of the building can definitely be a challenge at times to down right frustrating — but if you are patient you can usually find a spot. — sometimes I have to circle more than once and often have to park on the street.
This is a great pharmacy and I’m thankful to have them in our community.

I get all of my prescriptions filled at Barnes Arcata Family Drugs and have for a very long time. The staff are friendly and knowledgable and go out of their way to help each person. They will deliver when I’m unable to pick up my medications, which is a huge blessing. I love to support family-​owned businesses such as Barnes!

The most pleasant pharmacy you could ask for, nice people, cute stuff, perfect location, and lots of other conveniences you would usually have to get from chain stores. Thanks for making refilling my meds and enjoyable errand!

This is a good pharmacy. Everyone at Barnes is always very kind, courteous, and seem to be in a good mood whenever I walk through the door. They are always ready for whatever questions I’ve had, and they’ve shown a level of customer service that simply wasn’t there during my experiences with the Rite Aids and Walgreens of Eureka or Arcata.
I also appreciate the opportunity to support a local business, though Barnes is also admittedly a guilty pleasure of mine. The various items they sell remind me of a store my mother used to take me to back home in San Francisco in the late 80s — early 90s and would let me look at all the cool stuff they had. Barnes gives me a bit of that warm fuzzy nostalgia feeling.

In spite of the trinkets for sale, this is the best of the best pharmacies. Great, friendly help, and good advice available from the pharmacist.
Don’t much like the bric-​brac and Chinese-​made stuff, but at least some locally made jewelry, calendars, etc. are available.

I have gotten some of my best earrings here, and they have the best stuffy animal selection. The staff have been helpful in getting the right product to take home for my family.

I’ve gotten prescriptions filled here and have experienced nothing but kind, friendly, and witty service. Although I can’t tie it to anything particular, it reminds me of home which is nice for a college student. It’s more personal and I feel the workers are more genuine here then when I’ve had prescriptions filled at CVS. Helpful and knowledgeable staff in a store than has some nostalgic familiarity to it… check it out!

They have never made a mistake on my prescription! They have such a wonderful collection of interesting toys, decorations, jewelry, greeting cards, wall art, books, stuffed animals, and collectables. I love browsing all the adorable knick knacks and for the few minutes it occasionally takes

I love Barnes Arcata Family Drug and get all my prescriptions there. They are fast, accurate, and knowledgeable. Plus, there are lots of fun gift items, cards, and drugstore items available, and good parking… I would love it even more if they were open Saturday.

Barnes really helped me out today. I needed a prescription filled quickly and they did it in probably five minutes. I’m was so grateful for that today! The staff was very helpful and understanding.

Does your grandmother shop here? Sure looks like it: the store is chock-​full of bric-​à-​brac, trinkets, and geegaws. And candy. Mood rings. China teacups. Birthday cards. But the GREAT thing about Barnes Family Drug is that prescription drugs are competitively priced compared to Longs and the other corporate drug stores. So you can pick up your prescription, a candy necklace, and maybe a card for your Aunt Sally AND have a friendly chat with the very pleasant staff. (When was the last time you did that at Longs?)
