I came in for a Sunday brunch and I was seated immediately upon coming in. Their menu was typical of a diner with their food being a little above average. I will definitely be back due to their quick service.

This place serves diner food, but it’s only slightly better than mediocre. Tastewise, my skillet was pretty good. But my food was also drenched in excessive grease. Service is fast though. I was seated fairly quickly, and the waiter took my order within a couple of minutes. Within 10 minutes, my food arrived. Overall, if you want fast service, but not fast food, come here.

I’ve been to Luna multiple times when I’ve *needed* breakfast and it was after 11am. Make no mistake, this is not a fabulous Michelin star restaurant– it does have Diner in the name after all. However, every time I have come I’ve been seated immediately, had friendly and quick service, and food has been fresh and hot. Pretty standard fare but I love it’s simple and fast. Bonus– they offer plain grits. Many restaurant do the fancy schmancy cheese grits and I’m a traditionalist(or lame) plain grits gal. They make THEBEST grits I have ever had in my life. Ever. So much so I’ve ordered some to go at the end of my meal so I can have some the next day. No frills go-to breakfast spot when you need the basics fast.

Sat at the bar. Had the Oscar omelet and mimosas. Both were fantastic, especially the home fries that came with. My bartender/sever Freddy was great– attentive, fast, and accurate. The atmosphere is low key/casual(I stopped in after my workout around 11:45a). The bar area is small, but the rest of the restaurant was not terribly full. Good light while you eat too, windows on 2 of 4 sides.

Living near Shirlington, a place with its large selection of restaurants, you’d assume I’d go to different restaurant each trip down that hill but more often than not I find myself walking through the Luna Diner’s doors. Its booths are a little worn and the mismatched décor is a little comical but this place in the late afternoon feels like coming over to a friends house really familiar in the best kind of way. Laid back and the staff is super accommodating. I always feel like I get a great value for the money I spend here. The portion size is good and though the food is classic diner fair I always seem to leave satisfied(except that one time they over cooked my eggs)

This place has really good food but much like previous reviews the service wasn’t great. We did go at what most would consider to be the rush for brunch but it seemed there weren’t enough servers. Also, I just moved to the area and this was the first place we visited. That being said I probably will not be a repeat customer.

This place was pretty bad. Pretty, pretty, pretty bad. We came in for Sunday brunch and waited. Their menu looked like it had ADD; lots of flashing specials and different fonts and colors, begging for some structure and organization. I asked our waitress about what they used for their strawberry mimosas besides champs, hoping she would say fresh muddled strawberries but she quickly informed me she didn’t know and they were out of it anyway. O. k…, peach bellini it is! I’ve ordered many delicious peach bellinis, but what came out was cheap prosecco and peach syrup. Bleh. Like Puckers. Like something you’d get in Daytona Beach on Spring Break. Come on guys, jazz it up. My bf choked it down it was so nauseating, as was his cocktail, and I switched to prosecco. Skip the cocktails here, they are cheap and sugary. I ordered a cup of French onion soup and she asked if I wanted it to come out before my food. I say yes. Then I ordered the BLT and the waitress says they’re out of bacon. WHAT? Shut down then. Close your doors. Seriously, a brunch service without bacon is a crime and a MAJOR oversight. You are not forgiven for that one. So eventually I decided on the Rueben and my bf ordered the tuna melt. And then we waited. And waited. It was strange, because the place wasn’t even that busy. Eventually my bf asked our waitress to check on my soup and moments later our entire meal came out. Great. So as my Rueben was getting cold while I slurped my soup, I tried a bite of my bf’s tuna melt. White bread and bland tasting tuna with little seasoning. Not appetizing. My Rueben was fine but the coleslaw it was served with tasted like it came from a milky jar off a Cisco truck. They really cut corners on food here, it is glaringly obvious. The waitress ended up comping one of my proseccos for the long wait times, but spotty service and menu shortages aside, the food just isn’t good. It feels like they’re trying to put lipstick on a pig with this place. They want it to be trendy and chic, but the food and service are lacking. Can’t justify coming here again.

I’ve been here a few more times and service will vary based on who you get — we had an unfortunately encounter with a new host, but then the waitress was completely kick ass and salvaged what was almost a walk out situation. One amazing thing that I must commend them on is making a Chicken and Waffle during a weekend day lunch, even though it’s an item off their brunch menu!

We ate dinner here, the waiter /manager? was clueless. Ordered the crap spinach dip the dip was still half frozen. We asked if there mashed potatoes had garlic because we can’t eat it and he said no they were loaded with garlic, there lump crap meat had shells in it the steak over cooked grey and flat, the fries were cold and tasted like frozen from the store, the sandwich was cold and not fresh and did not match the discription, the salad … The wine we ordered he was trying to up charge. The bathroom floors were sticky. The bill was ridiculous. We complained they did nothing. Im pissed and will not be going back huge waste of money.

Absolutely awful. Very disappointing. Went here with my mom on a Sunday early afternoon and there was only one other table that appeared to be occupied by patrons(or it could’ve been friends of employees based on where they were sitting in the back of the restaurant). — Entered the restaurant. Staff were all in the back of the restaurant by the bar, watching TV. No one acknowledged us. We had to walk back for someone to even notice that we were there. — Bar was full of staff drinking and eating. If you’re open, your staff shouldn’t be sitting at the bar, eating and talking loudly. It was quite distracting and off putting. — We sat down in a booth and were greeted by a waitress(Yasmin) who looked like she didn’t want to be there. She brought menus and a chip on her shoulder. She took our drink order. We both ordered hot tea and a sparkling water. We asked what kind of tea they had and she had no idea. The waitress did not bring water to the table, although we saw another waiter automatically bring water to a table that had just been seated. — She brought 2 ceramic mugs, hot water, and lemon. We had to ask her for spoons, the tea(again) and sweetener. She brought 20 packets of sugar instead of an assortment of sweetener. Ordering tea should NOT be this difficult. — The tea box had boxes of tea jammed into it that were difficult to extract. WTF? — We both ordered soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. Another table got their soup order before us, even though they arrived after us. Moreover, when our order finally arrived, the sandwiches were cold(really, there’s only 1 other table in the restaurant), the bread dry and the cheese not gooey at all. And we never got our soup. There was a man who worked there who seemed to be the manager and he was waiting on the only other table there. He would ask us if things were okay, we would tell him no(e.g., soup order missing, no tea spoons, etc.) and then Yasmin would come back with said item in question. It appears that he was training here, at the expense of our lunch experience. We should not have been charged for that lunch. It was awful and the service was even worse. With regards to the food, there’s no excuse for what came out of that kitchen. My 5 year old nephew could’ve made a better grilled cheese sandwich than the one that was produced by the Luna Grill kitchen. Maybe it’s because they were all busy chatting it up at the bar. Unbelievable. I recently relocated to the area from being in the F&B/hospitality industry in Las Vegas and while I like to give new wait staff a chance, I will only do so if they’re remotely trying or seem like they care. Yasmin clearly needs to get another job because she clearly couldn’t be bothered with this one.

Been here 3 times… each time the more people that come in the worse the service gets. this place belongs on either hells kitchen or the real estate market. As good as there food is, this place lacks in the customer service department. This will more than likely be my last time here. Sat down at 645pm leaving at 808pm…

I have been here a few times and never found a dish that I just loved. All the dishes were pretty decent for the price. I’ve heard that they have a great brunch and might have to stop in some time to try that.

BRUNCHREVIEW: We go to Luna a lot. I am finally able to give it 4 and maybe 5 stars on my last experience. Usually, it’s a hit or miss there. I didn’t think much about their Grand Re-opening, but it’s made a huge difference in my last experience. Before, sometimes our food would come on time, and sometimes it took forever. We almost stopped going because of the service. When you have a toddler, an extra 10 minutes when everyone is starving is crucial. Here’s what I liked about it: The Service was great our last visit. Server greeted us immediately and brought out coffees and drinks on time. We ordered, and the food came out quick AND it was warm and oh so good. The manager walked around and was very engaging and interested in how we were doing. You could just tell that the entire staff was responding to the changes to the restaurant(new décor/interior). We came, we ate, and we really, really enjoyed our experience there. I have to say it was a 5 star experience this time. It’s also very family friendly — you’ll always see toddlers and babies there, a huge plus in my book.

Not only did this little place have a nice atmosphere, but the server we had was delightful. If you ever go, definitely ask for Evan! I got there for brunch around 2:45, and the pancakes stop serving at 2 but Evan hooked us up! They were absolutely delicious and filling. After we finished our food, we had a lovely chat with our server, and left in a very good mood!

I’ll confess that we stopped going to Luna several years ago after several experiences with poor service, so I was a little nervous returning for breakfast a few days ago(Monday morning @ 8:30 am). Very happy to report that the service was excellent and the food was delicious. Very friendly, attentive waitress and the lox and bagel was quite good with a generous serving of salmon. I’ll definitely put Luna back on our«go-to» list.

I had my first experience at Luna Grill and Diner a couple weeks ago and it certainly left a lot to be desired. For beverages, I ordered a hot tea and a water and both cups were not only dirty but there was an unidentifiable object floating in my tea pot. For lunch, I ordered the pizza, which would have been decent had it not been lukewarm and had the basil not been wilted. Prices are average and the service is decent but the food and cleanliness needs work. I would suggest an alternative place to dine.

It’s never a mistake choosing Luna for breakfast, brunch or lunch! Hubby and I stopped by when he wanted pancakes for breakfast Labor Day weekend. First of all, the coffee was fresh and hot. Hubby really enjoyed his chocolate chip pancakes, fresh fruit and side of bacon. There was aspect all of surf and turf Benedict that was tempting, but opted for the Eggs Neptune, a delicious crab cake Benedict. The poached eggs were perfectly runny and the hollandaise sauce was creamy and well seasoned. A sprinkle of old bay finished the perfect plate. The home fries were also very good, sautéed with a mixture of Greenland red peppers and onions. Also incredibly affordable compared to other local Brunch spots!

I’ve been to Luna Grill a number of times over the years, and in the past, each of my visits has been unremarkable. What they all share is that weird sense that no one is actually running the place. Today, however was remarkable. Upon being seated in a booth, my friend went to the restroom to wash her hands. She returned immediately, stating that the restrooms were inoperable: «apparently, they are overflowing.» We asked for a wet napkin with which to wash our hands. Our server looked utterly confused. Eventually, we were brought a damp napkin. We ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and iced tea, and a chicken sandwich and diet coke. After our mediocre meals, we asked for the check. We asked that the bill be split in half and presented two credit cards. The server ever verified, «50−50?» We confirmed: «50−50.» When the cards came back, my bill was $ 12.50 and my friend’s was 8.93. Hardly half. When I took the checks and the cards back to the bar, the server, again looking confused, admitted that she charged us for what we ordered. BUTSHEDIDN’T! My bill should have been the lesser amount. But, that wasn’t what we asked for! 50 – 50! It isn’t a difficult or unheard of request! It is unlikely I will ever return. Although the situation was resolved, it was not without unnecessary drama. Had the food been outstanding and had there been functioning restrooms, perhaps I’d consider another try. However, this one visit was the last straw.

Came here for Mother’s Day, checked in on Unilocal and there was a 20% off coupon my entire order!!! Score! I was not super hungry, so I ordered the Southwestern Chicken Salad with a side of steamed broccoli. Food was fresh, good flavor. My mom ordered a side salad. I’ve been coming here for years because the portions are a decent size and always fresh. Service was average, nothing exceptional to make me remember or want to return. Our server was sort of not energetic, like she did not want to be there or something. Food is consistently delicious. And they have a lot of veggies you can oder as side dishes.

My bf and I visited Luna Grill and Diner on New Year’s Day for brunch. It was fairly crowded, but we thankfully got seated right away. We really enjoyed the food(good quality, delicious, reasonable prices) and it’s very conveniently located(right in Shirlington Village, where there is plenty of parking around), but our main qualm with this place(and the reason I’m giving this review 3 stars) is our service — our server was not very attentive and our burger and sandwich took about 30 – 40 minutes to come out. We actually had to get her attention as she was walking quickly past us to ask about the status of our food. Even on a crowded day, servers need to be attentive to all guests. The food was delicious, but not enough to make up for the poor service. Even when we were ready to pay for our meal and leave, the server once again took forever to come out and get our check to us. It was pretty frustrating. What we ate: –I got the Bacon BBQ Burger(Topped with crispy onion straws, bacon, sweet BBQ sauce and melted Swiss cheese). This was quite tasty, and those fries on the side were great too! –My bf ordered the Roasted Turkey & Avocado BLT(Roasted turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and fresh avocado with reduced-fat mayo on our Sourdough). Even with the terrible service that day, I wouldn’t be opposed to visiting again. Hopefully the service improves next time!

Still dissapointing. We haven’t been back since 2011… now I remember why. Husband ordered a burger and fries… guess what, the server comes back a few minutes later, «we are out of fries.» How can you be OUT of fries. He ordered his burger medium, it came with no pink in the burger. It looked a bit puck shaped. I ordered the daily special country fried steak and eggs. Eggs over easy. One egg was over hard, no runny yoke, one was almost over hard. The steak was good. Service was a bit better, but still not spot on. Servers passing the table without refilling water or taking away finished plates. Sad, it has such potential. I thought after all this time things may have changd. I was wrong.

My husband and I wanted something inexpensive, but good. We were wandering good old Shirlington, and decided on here. The décor is unique, and our server was very nice. I had a delicious strawberry mimosa with a grilled pear and goat cheese salad. My husband had the Monte cristo. The happy hour deals are decent. Our meals weren’t extraordinary, but they were done right. We would both return again!
