Honestly… one of the best seafood places in Queens. Seafood with a greek flare. Noms. Freshness A, Taste A+, Service A+ I visited last weekend because a friend was gifted with a groupon from here. I must say that it was quite worth it. Portions were large and everything from salad to entrée was fresh. The voucher came with salad, champagne or wine, and whole lobster. Salad they gave was greek salad and all the ingredients were super fresh and immediately refreshed me just the way I like it. The bubbles were sweet and good, but not much to write home about… it’s… well… bubbles. The lobster you can order broiled, grilled, or stuffed(extra $ 5). I chose grilled and it was split from you and seasoned lightly with butter, garlic and herbs. Delish! Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the lobster tail’s texture was to my liking, a little too soft. But the taste was fresh so loved it none the less. It came with sides. We got steamed vegetables and lemon potatoes. Yes. Lemon potatoes were THE bomb. Literally melted in my mouth. And yes, I know I’m a bit backwards and all over the place with this review. But we also ordered an appetizer. We got steamed mussels in white wine sauce and that was one of our first impressions and wow! haven’t had mussels so fresh in forever! And the sauce and everything is just really flavorful and impressive. And can you believe it?! They serve a full loaf of garlic bread just when you sit down! Fresh made and nicely toasted. Dipped in white wine sauce… Thinking back makes my mouth water. The service was also impeccable. Was super nice even to groupon patrons! Always came to fill our water, always made sure everything was ok, gave us time to think about what to order, made sure our food is always fresh and hot by putting in orders one at a time. I’m impressed!

This is my 2nd visit. I even used the Unilocal app to make a reservation for today friday 6:30pm, table of 4ppl. I walked in 15 minutes ahead, i announced that i had a reservation. Host, did not seem to find it, she just went ahead and sat me down. Daphne our server was nice and friendly. She took drink orders right away. I realized upon arrival that there were a lot of empty tables, within 30 minutes it seem like almost every table was taken. I supposed arriving early made the difference. We ordered 2 grilled octopus appetizers, 1 large greek salad, smelts, steam mussels, 1 greek platter and 1 branzino. We also had lemon potatoes and steam veggies as part of the main courses. As i said before the food is excellent. The grilled ocotopus is a must have, tender, flavorfull and although a small plate it leaves you wanting more. The greek platter is packed with stuff clams, crab legs, lobster tail, scallops and stuffed shrimp. Everything in the greek plattter was cooked to perfection! The whole grilled branzino was delicious, good enough to be shared. The steam clam were the least flavorful, did like the coconut milk that is utilized to steam the mussels but it felt like it was missing something. I still observed a lack of flow between the servers and the server assistants. I continuously had to flag down staff to get water service for the table, what bothered me the most was that i had the exact same issue the last time was there. Based on food they get a 4 star rating. However, servers and server assistants need to work in conjunction to provide good basic service such as water ssrvice and clearing plates as my table was running out of space due to the amount of food we ordered. The basket of garlic bread upon arrival was definitely a nice touch and very much appreciated.

Super impressed, though the interior is somewhat simple, the food and the service is amazing. I was waited on by a waitress named Olga, who was very nice, funny, easy to communicate with, attentive and overall a generous person. I’m am Somewhat new to Greek wine, so I had tastings of what they offered and I was blown away. I also got the Greek combo, which had crab legs, stuffed shrimp and clams, lobster and scallops(all for 30 bucks, super cheap) the shrimp and crab legs where amazing. And I never say that about crab. Then Being more Hungry I ordered white wine mussels as a dessert, which was good, very very fishy tasting but the white wine sauce made it better. Then the bartender can in would was nice and very tall(also a lady) and I had two bullet Ryes on the rocks, then the restaurant got very busy but still They made a effort to see how I was doing, which was very nice and homey. If I could Give 10 stars I would:-)

Great service and amazing octopus salad!!! Jeez, we were not expecting the huge amount of octopus in the salad. A tad too much olive oil but it all tasted amazing. The cheese app was also delicious(great with the comp garlic bread).

What can I say I been eating in this restaurant when it was known as the Greek captain restaurant, it’s one of the best seafood places in Astoria or Long Island city queens! The food is excellent and the service an décor are good. They have a great selection of seafood and wine list. I recommend everything on the menu, enjoy!!!

I have never wanted to recommend a restaurant so strongly in my entire life. The wait staff: A+ The food: A++++++… We’ve had the shrimp bisque, the grilled octopus, the lobster(broiled), the lemon potatoes, and the garlic bread. OMG. The shrimp bisque actually can’t get any better. Literally, there are pieces of shrimp and it’s HUGE Grilled octopus, is difficult. They have this way of making it so it has the smokiness of the grill yet the tenderness of a delicious, deliciousness was(portrayed as a noun.) Lobster. I mean, it’s hard to go wrong but they go so right. Succulent. Amazingly tender. Flavored to perfection. The garlic bread, I’m not sure the origination of garlic bread, but I’m pretty sure it’s Greek based upon this preparation. This is an intimate, family operated environment by is VERY homey. They servers speak Greek to each other which makes this place an authentic little gem. I will come every chance I get AND will make the trip. Thank you Psari for re-instilling my love for Greek food and reminding me why I want to quit my job and move away. I love you.

This place is amazing!!! Got here on a Friday night(my boyfriend and I) around 930 and was pleasantly greeted and sat immediately. Let me break it down… The food: after we were seated we immediately received a bunch of lemons and freshly baked garlic bread… ugh, perfection! we started with baked clams — they were huge!!! And so meaty. The seasoning was perfect — flavorful yet not overpowering. Delicious! We also got a half dozen order of oysters. They were big in size and super fresh. We also! got mussels which came in a white creamy sauce — which I had never had before. They were delicious as well. For our entrée we split the King Crab legs which was something like 1.5lbs! We had so many apps, this was plenty to share. We ordered a medium size Greek salad too… the best feta I have EVER had!!! For dessert we had a nice New Zealand Sauvignon blanc — was one of the more pricer wines but still reasonably priced at $ 34… Not bat at all and went great with dinner. The service was great… the whole staff seemed so in sync and was super friendly, helpful and sweet. This was our first time at Psari, but it will definitely not be our last! Highly recommend :)

Delicious lobster! A friend and I came here after I purchased a highly rated Groupon — 2 lobsters, 2 sides, 2 soups/salads and 2 glasses of wine. Close to the N subway station, we were seated in the charming restaurant that was buzzing for a Sunday night. The lobster was great steamed — my friend had gotten it broiled and later said she would have liked it steamed — and the meat was juicy and plentiful. The sides were a bit more eccentric: My Greek salad was thrown together a bit haphazardly, and my friend’s fish soup was a bit strange. She chose the baked potato and I opted for the waitress’s recommendation of lemon potatoes, which were different but pretty good. I enjoyed the white wine and my friend liked the red, so points there. Overall, I wouldn’t pay the normal price for this meal, but definitely would recommend anyone pick up the Groupon which is readily available!

Psari is truly a hidden gem, as many of the other awesome places I’ve been lucky enough to find in Astoria. The restaurant has a very original look, the ceiling panels were very pleasing on the eyes. Everything was very clean white. We noticed a lot of the other tables to have Greek people so it was a great sign right from the start. We decided to order a few appetizers and see what would stand out. Let me tell you… everything we ordered was a hit. Grilled Octopus salad was amazing, the crab cakes were awesome as well, and finally the oysters and calamari hit just the right spot. Ohhh let me not forget, the entire time they will bring out fresh baked garlic bread. It’s really really good… No like really really good. Our server had an awesome Greek accent and was very helpful to recommend their best sellers. The house sangria was bomb as well. Get the pitcher live a little!

Short and simple: This is a great place to chill and hangout with your buddies… the seafood was fresh and was well prepared and served. The shell fishes was great and to the point with your taste buds. It was well cooked and preserved the freshness of the seafood! Great! The only little problem was the mix seafood soup, it was a little blend and the seafood was over boiled. Overall the seafood was great! The whole black seabass was awesome! The friendly staff didnt give me the infos! She picked the seabass for me and it was great!!! Thank you! The owner was funny and friendly!!! No more comment… just great place for food and a lovely place for a nice new or old buddies hangout. My lady was very pleased to celebrate her birthday with good friends and good food!

Came in with my gf after a long day of rainy weather and driving. Quickly seated– ordered and as usual– great service. My riesling was cold and crisp. Trying something different we tried the seafood bisque soup– tasty but smooth. I prefer it lumpy with seafood. Mussels in white wine sauce was perfect. Since size does matter– these mussels are big and succulent. Baked seafood dish was perfect– again, as usual. Never room for dessert. Maybe next time. I’ll be back!

Absolutely loved this restaurant! The food was delicious, the service and staff were efficient, and very friendly. The restaurant itself looked lovely, but still had a great cozy neighborhood vibe. The oysters were very fresh, as were the other seafood dishes we ordered. The mussels in white wine sauce here was incredible. The mussels were big and plump, and I could not stop dipping their also incredible complimentary house-made garlic bread in the sauce.(They happily gave us more because we were clearly enjoying it) The grilled shrimp was also delicious. The shrimp was easy to peel off the skin, and was so flavorful. Even their fries on the side was delicious! The price is a little on the steeper side especially compared to most other restaurants in the area, but it’s really worth it. Overall, such a great dining experience, and I can’t wait to come back.

This place has many fond memories for me. As a child my dad would bring us on Sunday after church. It was one of the many places we frequent as our weekly treat after being subjected to the long catholic mass. It use to be called the Greek Captain and it was a divey sort of place with picnic benches and the fish bar displaying the fresh catch when you first walked in. They even had wood mulch on the floor. That’s how down to earth it was… aww the memories. Anyway about 4 – 5 years ago they underwent a facelift or remodel. With this came a new name Psari. It’s still the greek captain to me! The place is now very modern and chic. Definitely a nice place to go on a date or for dinner out with the family. Don’t forget a girls night out too(more on why later)! For the last two years they have been advertising groupon deals for 2 dozen oysters and 2 glasses of wine or a full lobster meal. This is an amazing groupon that I have used myself and also given out as gifts! Make sure you make reservation prior to using the groupon(part of the rules). The food is still consistent and delicious like it was years ago during my childhood. I visit this place every couple of months and love their fried shrimp platters or the fresh catch of the day broiled in garlic and olive oil. Sometimes with some breadcrumbs on top too. Make sure you order their saganaki and the fresh lemon potatoes! I think their lemon potatoes are the best in Astoria hands down! No one makes them better because they taste super starchy and the lemon flavor is abundant… Yum! I like their Greek white wine which will be served warm for those that like cold white wine keep that in mind. That’s just how Greek wine is served regardless of the color. Ask for an ice cube or if you get a bottle make sure they chill it prior to serving. There is a small bar area where the fish bar use to be seats about 5 – 7 people on high stools and in the front there are several high top tables for two and a few in the front giving you an outdoor experience. The back seats larger parties. Now on to why I said this is a great place for a girls night out. Come here on a Friday, sit outside and you can hear the music from the mad donkey which is directly across the street. Once you are done with dinner go over for some music and drinks at a cheap price. Bar is open till 4am. Keep in mind you can’t walk in with doggy bags at the mad donkey. Parking is available on the street and meters till 7pm. The later in the evening you go the more difficult it will be to get parking. But nothing from a few blocks difference… walking won’t kill you. Many times I parked right up front.

Recently came here for a Groupon offer(which I still see offered from time to time). For $ 49, you get two lobsters(grilled or steamed), two sides, two soups or salads, and two glasses of wine(house) or champagne. I couldn’t believe the deal but came here to redeem it. Service cordially accepted my Groupon and made my experience amazing even though I was using a coupon for this feast. The quality of the food was great. We opted for two glasses of champagne, two seafood soups(offered on Wednesday and Friday), and sides of lemon potatoes and rice. The lobsters were huge — about 1.75−2 lbs per — very generous of Psari. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked, an outcome that could be surprising given that I used a Groupon to purchase the meal. I’ll definitely return to Psari for a normal meal sans online coupons. Their prices are fair, seafood fresh, and service ultra friendly!

There was only one server on a semi busy Sunday afternoon, but she was a rockstar. Our food came out fast. The Grilled Octopus and the mussels with white wine sauce are MUSTHAVES. The white zinfandel($ 6) was delicious with hints of watermelon, strawberry and cherry. Very good seafood.

The Groupon deal for two lobsters, two soups of salads and two glasses of wine is so worth it. The shrimp bisque and fish soup were both deliciously flavored, and the portions were really generous. The fish soup had am abundance of fish and could have been an appetizer or mini meal. The free bread was outrageously yummy, too. The lobster… oooh the lobster. We got out broiled and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was juicy, tender, and seasoned just enough. The whole deal comes with a lot, so for $ 50, it’s a steal. I don’t know how we had room after all of that, but we got the tiramisu for dessert, which was also amazing. The staff was great and friendly — Psari is a cozy spot with an awesome selection of seafood. Fish lovers, go check it out immediately.

I came here after purchasing a groupon and I had a great experience. The garlic bread at first was sooooo good. So flavorful and herby. I got 2 dozen oysters which came with 2 glasses of champagne or wine. The oysters were very fresh and delicious. It kind of had a slight bitter aftertaste but I think that was because of the horseradish. I also ordered a mixed seafood soup which was good. I had a cold so it was perfect for me. I also ordered fried calamari which was crispy and delicious. I would recommend the calamari. But don’t order veggies as a side for the calamari… It was so bland… The service was excellent. I would give psari 4 stars but the service bumped it up to a 5 for me.

Tried this place for the first time with a Groupon for 2 dozen oysters and champagne. The raw bluepoint oysters were fresh and fantastic with champagne. The octopus appetizer was also delicious, cooked and seasoned perfectly. The lemon potatoes were a bit too lemony and the veggies were bland. My main course of broiled lobster tails were overdone and bland as well, I doused them in lemon and a bit of salt to add flavor. I tried a bite of the Porgy that my friend had, it was grilled and quite nice. Service was attentive, and the place was full of people. after the $ 66 for the groupon was adjusted on the bill the total was $ 98 for the meal. I would definitely drop in again if I’m in the neighbourhood for those oysters, and octopus but for lobster I’ll stick to city island.

Came here over the summer and had an incredible meal! I have since recommended this restaurant to several people who have all reported enjoying it(and one is a very picky eater!) My boyfriend and I came here with our Lobster-Fest groupon. For $ 50.00 we each got a decent sized lobster, soup or salad, and a glass of wine or champagne. The lobsters come in a variety of ways. I ordered mine boiled, and the BF got his stuffed(thermidor type presentation.) Both were absolutely delicious and tasty, the size of the lobster was decent, as we were both very full after eating them. My boyfriend ordered a chowder and I ordered the salad — no complaints there. Prior to our actual meal, we ordered an appetizer of saganaki to split and each opted for the glass of wine. The saganai was flavorful, bold, hot, and delicious. The meal here left us incredibly satisfied and full. Sometimes at restaurants, seafood tends to be skimpy, as in very small lobsters… that was NOT the case here. The restaurant is on the tiny side, but had adorable outdoor seating available, and the tiny tables were lit by candle providing for an intimate and romantic experience. Have no hesitations about coming here! The waitress was beyond friendly, accommodating, and helpful! It began to drizzle a little outside, and she immediately(and by herself) moved our entire dinner to a table under an overhang.
