Great calzones! Lots of toppings to choose from. Pineapples were from a can though.

This pizza place epitomizes a common problem I have as someone who loves to travel and review restaurants. Do I judge it based on how it would stack up to restaurants in other parts of the country, or do I just compare it to other local places? This is important because compared to pizza in NYC, this place would be lucky to receive two stars. However, it is also the best pizza I have eaten in Georgia. Then again, it is the only pizza I have eaten in Georgia, so take what I am saying with a large handful of salt. As for the pizza, it is definitely not New York-style, but it is still tasty in its own way. As anyone who knows anything about pizza knows, the most important part of the pizza is the crust.(Hear that, you stupid Pizza Hut commercial about crustless pizza?!) Mellow Mushroom pizzas have a thick, soft, doughy crust. Biting into the crust is like biting into the inside of a nice, warm roll while being given a hug by your grandma. I have to admit that I liked it, but somewhere deep in my soul there was an uneasiness, as if the very fiber of my being was saying, «Wait, you can’t like this because it is not what pizza is supposed to taste like.» Well, I have given it a lot of thought, and here is what I decided. Even though I am as big of a pizza snob you will ever meet(if you are ever lucky enough to meet me), and even though it is not authentic NY pizza, nor is it even trying to be, I liked it, and in the end that is the most important thing. I am awarding three stars, and if I have the chance to try other Georgia pizza places and they turn out to be as bad as I fear, then I might even bump this one up to four.

This place seems to be a very polarizing place, people either love it or hate it. I’m in the hate camp. Some people swear by how good their pizza is, but it tastes horrible to me. The dough is too thick, and they make what they call pretzels out of it too — both are equally not good. To top it off, their music taste is still lost in the 60’s — I’m sure to play off their tye-dyed theme. But for the love of god, those hippy days are long gone! They do have a few decent beers on tap, which enabled me not to give them the dreaded one star rating
