If you can get past the expensive price tag(expensive relatively speaking… expensive for us graduate students) organics to go is a solid lunch option. They have a wide selection of pizza, pasta, and sandwiches all made fresh to order. They also have pre-made sandwiches and sushi to grab on the go. Their toasted grilled veggie and balsamic sandwich is my favorite($ 6.99). Make your own sandwiches are $ 7.49, quesadillas are about $ 5, pasta is $ 4.29 for a half portion and $ 8 for a full portion and pizzas are about $ 8 depending on which one you order. Organics also sells some pastries and soft serve ice cream which can be a life saver to help get you through a class, or pick you up after a rough test(definitely speaking from experience on that one!).

(01/11/2012) Pretty much this was the only place open and serving food during the winter break at Emory, but it’s not bad, was close, and served its purpose. They have a deli line, a hot foods line(soups and pastas), and a to-go case with a salad bar and a yogurt bar, packaged sushi, prepared sandwiches, fruit and assorted«healthy» drinks. The sushi was made by Bumblefish, a chain out of Arlington, VA making self-proclaimed«neo-Asian fast food». The California Roll was your standard — crab stick, cucumber, avocado(inside), tobiko(outside), rice was not yet hard even though it had been refrigerated; Cucumber Salad was thinly sliced cucumbers marinated with rice wine vinegar(very sour dressing), toasted sesame oil, bits of seaweed. On another day, I got the sandwich special, a Toasted Turky Pepperjack; it was really unspectacular(you probably make better sandwiches at home), but I was starving and it was fine, the ingredient quality seemed pretty high. Coffee is decent(and a necessity). The lifestyle they’re selling you is «good for you gourmet». Prices are a little higher than what you would pay off campus, but you’re pretty much here for the convenience.

Bumping up to 3 stars with an update… the credit card issues have been resolved, and now that I’ve figured out what to order and when to go(avoid peak times if you want a hot meal… the line can get backed up), I find myself visiting about once a week. Also, the coffee is good, and they’ve brought in pastries.

As a philosophy graduate student, I don’t have reason to wander far from Emory’s academic quad on what I think of as the«main» part of campus. But sometimes I like to study at the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library in the 1462 Clifton Road Building, and I’ve always lamented not knowing where to get coffee nearby. But today I met my biostats grad student friend Hillary in the Grace Crum Rollins Building and discovered that, as of January 18, there now is a place to obtain food and beverages not from a vending machine! Organic to Go is open from 7:30 am to 7 pm Mondays through Thursdays and 7:30 am to 3 pm on Fridays and serves hot breakfasts, has a salad bar, is stocked up on refrigerated to-go items like wraps and yogurt parfaits – and, most importantly for me – has coffee. And it’s even better than the coffee at Jazzman’s in the basement of Woodruff Library on main campus, although, let’s be real, that’s not a difficult standard to surpass. There is ample seating in the area around Organic to Go and the woman from whom I bought the coffee was extremely pleasant. Although I wish it were open on Saturdays and Sundays, its weekday existence is nevertheless something about which I’m very excited!
