I was drawn in by the amount of whiskey on display. I had a decent Sazerac at the bar, though it was a little too heavy on the Pernod rinse, but I’m a frequent visitor to New Orleans so I’ve become a bit spoiled. The patron next to me seemed to have been waiting for the bartender to show up for a while and was a little put out, but he materialized shortly thereafter. At first some iPad menus were set before us, but they didn’t work, so the bartender handed over paper menus. There are indeed a lot of cocktail options, mostly around the $ 15 range. They also have a whole lot of top shelf whiskey available, which is a nice change from the tired vodka-centric cocktail culture of most casino bars. My only complaint is that the place did lack the atmosphere of your typical craft cocktail establishment. I’d recommend that Harrah’s make it a little more enclosed, play some hot jazz music, and remove the TV. Even though it was the best drink I had all weekend, it didn’t quite feel like a comfortable place to linger. The lounge next to does have a lot of comfortable seating, but also is right next to the check-in area, so it lacks privacy.

The place was empty when we walked in last night at about 6, and the bartender was slouched on the bar, watching people walk by but clearly bored. We sat down; he shuffled over to us but didn’t greet us. We asked him what kind of ryes they had, and he rolled his eyes and said in the rudest, most dismissive voice, «I’ll get you a list.» My BF and I looked at each other, astonished at how unwelcoming this guy was, and my BF said«we don’t have to stay here, do we?» We got up, told the snotty bartender we were sorry to have bothered him, and walked away.

New cocktail bar located in the Harrah’s front lobby with a lounge connected to it. Yet it doesn’t have a name. It’s the Bar With No Name. Kind of a goofy name but just go with it. Great list of cocktails, whiskey, scotch, some craft beers on tap, and personable bartenders. The list of cocktails and spirits reads like a book. Pretty impressive offerings overall. As it’s mainly a cocktail bar there are only around six crafty beers on tap and a group of domestics and imports in bottle. Nice spot for a drink but no happy hour is pretty lame. Really? All the other bars have a happy hour. Why not here? If you want to sit in the lounge area it’s a one drink minimum. Kind of an upscale décor with assorted seating, lighting, and art on the walls. Expect to pay in the $ 12 – 16 range for a cocktail and $ 7 for a beer. Brooklyn chocolate stout and Pappy Van Winkle if you really want to splurge. Oh yeah.

Located near the hotel lobby, Harrah’s has a new bar. And it has no name. I asked the bartender how I would review it on Unilocal and he said it should be referred to as #barwithnoname. Can you even hashtag the name of a business? In any case, the new bar is heavily cocktail oriented and conveniently located where the long check-in line forms. The menu is more like a storybook or bible of cocktails versus a menu. It tells the story of cocktails and details the different type of liquors. I only paged through but this thing is detailed. The space isn’t huge and the prices are steep. The bartenders seem knowledgable and the cocktails are no joking matter. It might be hard to justify a fancy, expensive drink in a casino, however I can definitely see myself wanting to sample the masterpieces and kill some time on the check-in line.
